Reva – Inside the Light
“Thicker Than Water”

At the cancer center, Reva calls for the little girl next to her, Gretel. She tells Reva that she is going to surgery, too. Reva tells her that she will be here waiting on her when she gets back to her room. In another part of the center, Colin asks Billy where Reva’s son is. Billy tells him that Jonathan will not let Reva down. Colin tells him that it is crucial for him to come now.

At the Beacon, Lizzie sees that Jonathan has a message on his phone. Jonathan is asleep and she listens to the voice mail. Jonathan suddenly wakes up and grabs the phone from her and tells her angrily not to listen to his mail. He phones Billy who tells him that his own bone marrow was no good and that he needs to come out and get tested. Jonathan packs later and Lizzie asks him what is going on. She tells him that she had cancer and Jonathan tells her that she looks strong. He tells her that he is going to Reva to get tested for a possible donor. She is surprised when Jonathan tells her that Reva has only told Billy and him; not Josh. Jonathan tells her that he couldn’t live with himself if he didn’t go. Jonathan tells her that he doesn’t know if he can be a good son or a good parent. He makes her promise not to tell anyone and she does. Before he leaves, Lizzie tells him good luck.

At Cedars, Jonathan kisses Tammy and tells her that he needs to go away for a couple days on a new lead for a business. She tells him that she is fine and to go. Jonathan tells her that he doesn’t want to go and she tells him to go make money for they are broke. He kisses her goodbye and takes one last long look before walking out the hospital door.

Back at the cancer center, Billy walks into Reva’s room. She asks where he was and he tells her that he was at the airport to charter an airplane in case they need it. He laughs and tells her in case she wanted to sky dive. She tells him that is sweet and starts to make another statement, and then drops off to sleep. Billy whispers to Colin that he has the plane ready to take her where ever they need to get a donor. Suddenly, Jonathan walks in and kidding, asks Billy who he has to sleep with to be a donor. Colin says he will get the ball rolling. Reva wakes up and is surprised to see Jonathan. She says, “My baby”. He tells her that he is here for her. She tells him that it is nice and suddenly, she sees Jonathan as a very young boy. She grabs his hand and tells him that he is what has been missing in her life. Present-day Jonathan listens to her talk to him.

Back to her mixed-up reality, she tells the boy-Jonathan that he will have to go home to his family but if he is ever lonely or sad, to think of his friend, Reva; a Fairy Godmother. Present-day Jonathan smiles at Reva. The boy-Jonathan tells her that he doesn’t want to leave her. Reva tells the little boy that even the best fairy tales have to come to an end sometimes. She shows him the swans on the lake and tells him about the story of the ugly duckling. Present-day Jonathan smiles and nods and says, “I remember”. In her reality she tells the boy-Jonathan that she was the original ugly duckling living dirt poor. She grabs present-day Jonathan’s face and tells him that then she met a boy named Joshua and he saw a swan. She says, “Then, low and behold, when I looked into the mirror……”, present-day Jonathan laughs and the little boy laughs, too. Jonathan-the-boy says, “Then you were a swan”. She says, “Oh, Jonathan how I wish I could wave a magic wand right now, but we ugly ducklings need a long time to grow up and it isn’t always easy, fun, or fair”. She hugs present-day Jonathan as she says these words. The boy-Jonathan tells Reva that she is crying and she tells him that she is happy for when she closes her eyes, she can see what type of swan he will be; strong, proud and brave. “I will always be a part of your life and it will be worth it”, she tells the boy. Present-day Jonathan listens as she ends, “It will all be worth it; I know it will”. Suddenly, Reva sees Jonathan in present-reality and tells him that he needs to be with Tammy. He tells her that Tammy is okay. She tells him that she has been babbling and asks if she said something stupid. He tells her that she was proud of him and then says, “I’m very glad that I am your son”. He tells her that he was scared when he first started to look for her, but he found her and she is a fighter. He says it again that she is a fighter. He challenges her to fight this. Colin peeks through the door and nods at Jonathan. Jonathan leaves and Reva looks confused and scared.

In another part of the center, Jonathan tells Colin that whatever he can do just do it for if anyone deserves to live, it’s Reva. Colin says, “Let’s do it”. In her room, Gretel calls to Reva through the glass partition. She asks Reva if she is fading. Reva tells her that her son is here and tells her that her son is like an avenging angel. Colin and Jonathan find Billy in another part of the center. Jonathan announces with excitement, “I finally did it”. He is elated and tells Billy that he is a match. Billy asks who will tell Reva and Jonathan points to Colin who sighs deeply.

Meanwhile, at Cedars, Lizzie brings Tammy magazines and lotion. She fluffs Tammy’s pillows and Tammy tells her that it is too much. Tammy tells Lizzie that Jonathan will not be home for he is on a business trip. Knowing the real reason Jonathan is gone, Lizzie tells her that she hopes Alan doesn’t find out for he will try to ruin that, too. She asks Tammy if she cares that Jonathan is gone and Tammy tells her that would be selfish if she did. Lizzie tells her that she (Tammy) thinks of everyone but her own needs. Tammy says, “Well, you don’t have Jonathan”. Lizzie adds, “No, I’m just having his baby”. With those words, Tammy looks away. Lizzie tells her that she is sorry and that Tammy is being nice to her. Tammy tells her that she, too, has her moments, but Jonathan is worth the sacrifice. Lizzie tells her that she would like to think she could sacrifice something, too. Tammy tells her that when the time is right, she will know. Lizzie hugs Tammy and tells her that when she grows up, she wants to be like Tammy. Tammy laughs and tells her to gather her magazines and get out, but leave the lotion. Lizzie laughs and leaves.

At the cancer center, Colin tells Reva that she can’t ask her family to let her die. She starts to talk and he interrupts and says, “You are so unbelievably selfish”. She says, “What”? He tells her that it is an insult to the other patients and she needs to quit being a martyr; let people help you. Billy walks in and tells her that he called Jonathan. She tells him it is a conspiracy. Jonathan walks in and Reva tells him that she didn’t want him to be involved. She asks him did he tell the doctor about his medical condition. Colin asks what and Reva tells him that he had an allergic reaction to anesthesia as a child. Jonathan tells her that it isn’t a big deal. Reva yells that he could have died. Colin assures her that they will use different anesthesia agents. She says she doesn’t want to take the chance and Jonathan says that she will. Billy tells her it is three against one

Later, Jonathan is being wheeled into the OR at the cancer center. He asks the nurse to let him make a phone call. He calls Tammy and asks how she is doing. Tammy tells him about Lizzie’s visit. Jonathan tells her that he has a meeting and ends the call, “I love you”. He hangs up and tells the nurse that he is now ready. Colin proceeds with the marrow donation as Jonathan is under the anesthetic. Reva lies in bed with a concerned look on her face. Later, Colin brings in a bag of bone marrow and hangs it. Reva smiles as Colin connects it to her IV tubing. Colin smiles as well.

Later on that day, Jonathan and Reva share a room at the cancer center. Jonathan tells her that he is harder to kill than she is. He starts to tell her about movies where the guy gets a transplant from a killer and then has an overwhelming desire to kill. She assures him that she doesn’t have those feelings. He asks how she feels and she tells him that she feels like she ran a couple of marathons. In another part of the center, Billy asks how long they will know before it works and Colin tells him not for a while but he thinks this one is a win. In her room, Jonathan laughs at Reva and shows her their matching hospital bracelets. She tells him not to be afraid and they hold hands. She starts to cry and tells him that what he did was foolish to risk his own life. She tells him that he was brave and selfless. She thanks him and he tells her that she doesn’t need to thank him. She cries some more and tells him that up until today, they were just getting to know each other. She then adds, “We are now mother and son by choice”. Jonathan tells her that it is about time. He adds, “How can I be a good father until I am a good son”. She tells him that he is a good son in every way. Reva tells him that she needs to tell him that if this doesn’t work…..he interrupts her and says in a stern voice, “Reva, shut the hell up”. He starts to get out of bed and she tells him to take it easy. Jonathan proceeds to tell her that he let them stick some cartoon-sized needle in his spine and now she wants to give him a death-bed speech. She tells him that isn’t what she wants to do. He tells her that he doesn’t want to hear it. He says, “Remember the Alamo. This one is for the jipper”. She corrects him and says, “It’s the Gipper”. Reva explains to him that there are things she needs to say; things that she learned the hard way and wants to say to all her children. Jonathan says, “Well, I’m the closest kid around so you are going to spew that junk on me”? She tells him that she is trying to spare him making the same mistakes she made. He tells her to say that then and to not give up. He says, “You don’t get to do that for no one knows anything”. She cries and looks so lovingly at him as he tells her to just keep living. She says that she is trying. Jonathan tells her that she needs to do better for if she doesn’t, he’s screwed. He tells her that when he woke from the surgery, he knew now that he will have to be there for his baby. Reva smiles a wide smile. He tells her to save her wisdom for her grand daughter. He ends with, “Deal”? She laughs at him and tells him that he didn’t just choose her today; he chose the baby, too. He asks her do they have a deal and she shakes his hand and says, “We have a deal”.

At the Spaulding mansion, Lizzie sits down. The maid tells her that she didn’t know she was moving back. Lizzie tells her no one knows. Lizzie asks her if the bars are still on her old room and the maid says, “Only if you let them miss”. Lizzie talks to Roxie and asks, “I’ve always been a spoiled rich girl. Do you think I can care about someone but my self”?

Meanwhile, back at the cancer center, Colin tells Reva and Billy that everything looks good and she needs to rest. Reva tells him that she is willing her cells to accept the marrow. She tells Billy to get her son and Jonathan walks into the room. Billy shakes his hand and tells him he did good. Colin and Billy leave and Jonathan tells Reva that she is lazy. They laugh. He tells her to remember her promise and she tells him that she has every intention of doing so. She tells him that she will never forget what he did for her and for him not forget either. He says, “How could I forget; I couldn’t do that to my Fairy Godmother”. Reva looks shocked and says, “You remember that”? Jonathan tells her that a kid could never forget that. Billy walks back in and tells Jonathan his taxi has arrived. Jonathan cracks another joke at Reva and she tells him to go. Jonathan laughs as he walks out the door. Reva tells him, “I love you, too, son”.

Later that day at the cancer center, Gretel asks Reva what she is doing. Reva tells her that she is writing a letter to her son. Gretel tells her that the nurses are talking about him like crazy and that she didn’t get to meet him. Reva tells her that when she gets well, she can come to Springfield to meet everyone. She tells Gretel that maybe they will name the baby Gretel. Gretel says, “Oh, they will name her after you”. Reva tells her that she really is writing a letter to the baby in case…..Gretel interrupts and says, “In case what”? Reva tears up the letter and says, “In case nothing. I’m going to say to that sweet beautiful face myself”. Reva asks Gretel if she knows the story of the ugly duckling and Gretel tells her not exactly. Gretel drags up a chair as Reva starts the story.

At the mansion, Lizzie talks to Roxie and asks her about names. Lizzie tells her that she is missing the good old days with Jonathan and Lizzie. Suddenly, Jonathan walks into the room. She asks about Reva and he tells her that she will live if there is any justice in the world. Lizzie asks about Tammy and he tells her that he hasn’t been to the hospital yet. Lizzie says, “You came here first”? Jonathan tells her not to make a big deal because when he went to the room, he found a note. He asks what the note means. Lizzie tells him that she just wanted to give him and Tammy their privacy. Jonathan looks skeptical and tells her that she is a prisoner at the mansion. She starts to give a list of the things she has there at the mansion and that it is better. Jonathan tells her that no, it’s not better for Tammy wants her there with them. Lizzie asks him how he feels and Jonathan says “Yeah, I want you with us too while you’re carrying my baby”. Lizzie says, “Your baby”? He says yeah. Lizzie smiles. Jonathan picks up Roxie and asks Lizzie if she is coming home. Pleased, Lizzie says, “Yeah, I’m coming home. Jonathan, holding Roxie, says, “Dog, you smell weird”. He eyes a baby names book, picks it up, snickers and takes it with him as he carries Roxie out of the room.
