Shane wakes and professes his gratitude for Bridget making him a breakfast, and extols that all the Forrester’s have been so good to him. Ridge is daydreaming about Phoebe’s attachment and involvement with Shane and doesn’t hear a word that Thorne and Eric are saying about starting up a new company. He confesses that she’s too young and he doesn’t want her confusing feelings for something they are not. Thorne tells him she won’t because the police will find McGrath and he’ll be out of the picture for good.
Lt. Baker tells Phoebe that only the D.A. can drop the charges against Shane. She notifies him that she won’t testify against him because he did not try to rape her. He asks her about Harry; he was assaulted. She says she will say he started it. Harry thought she needed protection, but she didn’t. She begs him please; she doesn’t want anything bad to happen to Shane.
Taylor walks into Nick’s office and he immediately picks up the phone and says he needs to order a smaller hat. His head is about to be shrunk. She remarks that is so funny she forgot to laugh. He apologizes and laments he knows this is serious business to her and he hates to disappoint her, but he doesn’t have any deep, dark secrets rolling around in his subconscious. She says of course not, if he is aware of them. He tells her that is tricky, very tricky. She tells him that when he becomes aware he can make better choices so he won’t sabotage his own happiness. They toy with words, about his subconscious, wanting to sell back Forrester Creations and what would make him happy. He quips that if he wasn’t crazy before, he sure will be after this. She says, “I like men like you, disarming, very self-assured. They usually have the most to learn about themselves.”
Lt. Baker reminds Phoebe that Hector had been there and he’s been around the block a few times and he said Shane was violent. She reminds him who hit whom? And besides Hector is blind, he hates Shane and almost killed him. He thought he was protecting her but just like Harry, she didn’t need their protection. And who is a better judge of that, them or her? He sees he is losing the battle so he agrees to talk to the D.A. Without her testimony there is no case. It will be cleared up this afternoon and Shane won’t be arrested. Now he wonders if her parents know about this; her sticking up for Shane?
Ridge tells his father and brother that Phoebe goes to school with lots of cool guys. Why would she want to spend five minutes with the likes of Shane McGrath, he has no idea. Thorne tells him that he is worrying too much. First of all, Shane is going to jail, and Phoebe is too smart. She has plenty of adults looking out for her. She’s not going to fall into anything unhealthy. Ridge announces that he’d better be right. Eric interrupts and says they still don’t have a name for their fashion house and all the obvious ones are already taken. Ridge laments how they can’t even use their own damn family name. And he knows Nick doesn’t want to be in the fashion business, but just stick it to them. Eric offers that he has been thinking about Jackie. They are close, perhaps he could talk to her. Ridge tells him that he is dreaming. Nick is not going to budge on this. Thorne tells them not to be so sure. He’s sure Taylor wouldn’t want him to tell them this, but Taylor is taking Marone on as a patient. Ridge asks what good is that going to do? Thorne answers that she wants to work on him so he will realize that running Forrester Creations isn’t going to make him happy. Eric thinks that is great. She can talk him into selling the company back to them. He looks at his two skeptical sons and asks do they have a better plan. This could be the answer to their prayers.
Still standing, Taylor tells Nick that he isn’t the sort of guy who responds to B.S. so she isn’t going to throw any at him. Bottom line, he’s not happy. He’s looking for something, but he hasn’t found it yet. He urges her to go on; it’s not like she needs anything from him. They sit. She asks him if she is wrong? He lost Brooke and his family. He wants children but doesn’t have anyone to have them with. He’s kidding himself if he thinks he can replace having a deep, emotional relationship and family attachment with what……..power or money? So he just sits there in this big office of this big company that he knows nothing about. And he has a bunch of employees out there who stayed but think of him as the enemy and they are only here because they need the work. He shakes his finger and tells her wait a minute. She’s is sounding like she is preaching to him, not treating him. She says okay, then she will ask again. Is she wrong? He admits some of the things she has said are true. But, she’s not exactly unbiased. She is engaged to Thorne Forrester and Stephanie Forrester is supposedly her best friend. And Ridge is the father of her children. “So you tell me why I should put any value on your analysis of my life?” She bluffs by saying you know what? If he doesn’t have the guts to look inside himself, she’d rather spend her time doing something else.
Bridget redresses Shane’s wounds and he makes small talk about her living there by herself and how much they have in common. She finds that humorous. He says he really doesn’t know her, but he figures she has made some bad choices in her life…and he’s the king of bad choices. He’s thinking that she is alone here because she feels alone inside. And people don’t really understand anything about her right now. Maybe she has betrayed somebody’s trust. Phoebe slips in and he brightens up. And asks how are they related? When he hears that Bridget is her aunt, he says he knew there was this Forrester ‘good gene’ thing going on. He’s glad to see her. He hears another siren and gets spooked but she assures him she didn’t call the police and he doesn’t have to run.
Nick tells Taylor that he is sorry if she thinks he is wasting her time. It’s true, a lot of bad things have happened to him, but that’s life. He thinks you have to roll with the punches and deal with it and not let it get you down. She answers that it will bring him down if he sits on it and allows it to sabotage his happiness. He quips that he suggests not sitting. She remarks that will get uncomfortable after a while. He says he really doesn’t think he needs this. She says he does. He answers he doesn’t really care what she thinks. She dares him that he’s afraid. He tells her not to tell him how he feels. Please don’t do that. She points out she can’t know how he feels unless he tells her. They should just talk. He barks that he really hates this. She says she knows he does…which tells her there really is something there he doesn’t want her to find. But, she assures him she is in his corner, on his side. She urges him to just talk to her. Start anywhere he wants to, whatever makes him comfortable. He grabs a bottle of water and takes a swig and then juggles it around, and clowns “when I was a boy”……..then seriously he tells her about growing up in Seattle with his mother. Not that that was a bad thing.
Shane is grateful and surprised that Phoebe had the charges dropped for him. She tells him of course she did, it was so unfair. She knows he never meant to hurt her. It was just what everyone else assumed he was going to do. He says he doesn’t care what anyone else thinks, just her. He calls her an angel and says when he thought he had blown it with her, he was never so sad in his life. Does this mean that she might let him back in her life again? Before she can do more than give him a hopeful look, her cell phone rings and it’s her dad. He wants to know what’s up with her having the charges dropped? And when she blows him off that now is not a good time to talk, he guesses she is with Shane. Shane also guesses that her dad is worried about her and says he doesn’t want to complicate her life any more. He opines she has been so great to him and the only way he can repay her is just to get out of L.A. She quickly dispels that and tells him no, she doesn’t want him to leave. She begs Bridget just to let him stay for a little while until he can get back on his feet. Reluctantly, Bridget relents and says okay. He gushes with thanks. He tells Phoebe that she is incredible….and so sweet…..he never knew people like them existed. And he vows he is going on a mission here….to be the kind of man that deserves someone like Phoebe. He didn’t have a reason to do it before, but he’s gonna do it this time. She tells him she knows he will. He kisses her while an apprehensive Bridget looks on.
Ridge gruffs that whatever it takes he is going to keep Shane McGrath the hell away from his daughter!
Nick continues with his childhood story that he finally found out Massimo was his father after thinking his whole life that Frank Payne was. He had died when he was about ten. He wasn’t around much, but when he was he had never been that interested in Nick. She wonders if that is because he knew Nick wasn’t his? He doesn’t know….it’s just that he resents that he left his mom with a ton of debt. She was always struggling….struggling to make ends meet. So they had problems. He had problems like everyone else, didn’t make him any different. She tells him they are doing great, just go on. He asks why are they doing this anyway? She asks him to elaborate a little on the fact that his mom struggled. That seemed to bother him. He admits that yes it bothered him a lot. He couldn’t help; he couldn’t contribute. She reminds him that it isn’t a child’s place to take on that role of providing. But, that she hears that he felt very helpless. What else? He tells her how in Seattle they lived by the port and he liked that….the smell of the sea, air….the sound of the ships, horns blowing…..coming and going. He got friendly with the sailors; they became buddies of his. Every now and then one would give him a big salmon or halibut and he’d be so excited to take it home and be able to contribute. He could remember running home and taking the steps two at a time, so excited to show his mother what he had.
Then he gets very dark and quiet with memories flashing in his mind. He tells Taylor this is enough, he’d told her he was really busy, so……She says they are just getting started, but he pats her hand and ushers her to the door. He dismisses her that they will make it another time. He’ll make another appointment sometime. Her last words are that she will see him tomorrow. He tries to get back to work but his mind is focused on something else.
