Ridge and Brooke wake up in bed, and Ridge laments that his Genie made his one dream come true – her! She opines they wasted so much time, and he vows he will never ever let her down again. And he likes the sound of her saying she and the kids will be there waiting until he gets home tonight.
At Forrester, Sally, Felicia and Eric reminisce about one of their more popular shoots in Villa d’este. He remembers it was one of Stephanie’s greatest triumphs. Meanwhile, sitting in Taylor’s office, Stephanie also is remembering the day before when she and Eric bickered with each other, but she told him she did love him and he asked why then couldn’t she show it? Taylor joins her and asks if this is about talking about Nick taking over Forrester Creations? Stephanie hedges – well yes, yes and no. It was a lot of drama as she can well imagine. Then she comes clean, that it’s about her and her marriage. Taylor says that is her specialty, so how can she help her? Stephanie opines that she doesn’t know. She just knows that she is scared and doesn’t know why.
Bridget drops in on Brooke and she comforts her on the loss of the baby. Bridget says she is okay, just is beginning to think she is not supposed to have children. Brooke tells her no, it was like she said – mother nature at work. Bridget agrees, but just look at all the damage because of one stupid, very weak moment – Brooke’s marriage is ruined and they’ve lost the family company. Brooke tells her she can’t blame all of that on herself. Bridget continues her pity party by asking shouldn’t she blame herself? If she hadn’t slept with Nick that one time, Brooke’s marriage wouldn’t be on the rocks, and Jackie wouldn’t have needed to go over to Stephanie’s and tell her to back off. And Jackie would have never fallen over the railing. Brooke orders her to stop this. She is not going to let her do this to herself. There were other forces at work. She and Ridge were just made to be together, and yes she loved Nick, but it just didn’t work out. Bridget is happy for her about being back with Ridge. She knows she never stopped loving him. And Brooke tells Bridget that she knows she never stopped loving Nick either.
Again, Eric is remembering bits and pieces of yesterday’s conversation where he tells Stephanie that he can still look in the mirror and not hate that man, but she can’t say that. Ridge asks if he’d like some good news. Eric declares he’d LOVE some good news. Ridge tells him that he and Brooke are back together……and this time it’s going to last. Eric is ecstatic – at least someone in the family has a healthy relationship.
Stephanie reveals to Taylor that when Eric told her yesterday that he’d sold the company, she knew it was like ripping it right from his guts. It devastated him. And what did she do? She berated him because he hadn’t discussed it with her. He did it without her permission. Taylor reminds her that they both know that Stephanie has a powerful need to be in control. Stephanie says that is a very diplomatic way of saying it, but she doesn’t want to do that anymore. It’s exhausting, and it just alienates people. Taylor also points out that change requires looking at your own faults. And becoming aware of it, and it’s a little frightening. Stephanie admits that yes it is. She has been married a long, long time and Eric deserves better. “You know, you think you know someone, but how can you when you don’t even know yourself? She suggests they get started.
Nick shoves an employment contract in Donna’s face and wants her to sign it. She tells him he’s taking this tough-as-nail businessman thing a little far. He tells a very satisfied Donna that he wants her to be the main model. Also a spokesman when needed. He also wants her to talk to the manufacturers and designers on the line and what direction it’s going to take. He tells her that she stood up for her mother against Stephanie and that took a lot of guts. “You’re the kind of person I want on my team.” She asks where does she sign?
Bridget admits she doesn’t feel the same way she used to about Nick. Yes, she loved him deeply, but he took the family company away. How could she ever be with a man or even have feelings for a man that would do something like that? Brooke tells her that he was only acting out of anger and hurt. Yes, over losing her, but he’ll get over it. Bridget says she doesn’t think so, at least no time soon. And she is tired of playing second fiddle. They say their ‘I Love Yous' and Bridget takes off. Nick calls and wants her to come over. Rather curtly, she answers just for a minute.
Slowly Stephanie begins to fill in her childhood for Taylor. A beautiful community, Lake Forrest, that everyone dreams of having their family grow up in….a lovely home and her mother took care of her and her sister, Pammy. She explains that her mother was one of those stay-at-home mommies, most were in those days. Stephanie volunteers that her mother was quite beautiful, always impeccably dressed…..her favorite song was ‘Que, Sera, Sera’ –‘whatever will be, will be’. Her dad was very handsome, very successful. He was a two-martini at lunch man….oh, and he smoked a pipe. She’d almost forgot that….she loved the smell of that pipe. That was her father to her. She tells Taylor she could go on and on, but it was a pretty perfect time of growing up. They were kind of like a Norman Rockwell painting except for one thing……her father always wanted a son.
Nick looks up and Bridget just walks on in. She says she moves pretty quickly when she is mad. She wants to know how could he do this to her father? What does Nick want with a fashion house? His behavior has been nothing but nasty and vengeful. He tells her to hold on just a minute. Is she telling him he shouldn’t have done what he did? That Stephanie shouldn’t pay for what she did to his mother? Bridget says they both know he’s doing this because of her mother! He tells her that when she let go of him, she said he had to learn for himself. And that is exactly what he did. “I learned that your mother will be obsessed with that man for the rest of her life. I was warned, but I didn’t listen.” But, that if he had of listened, they would still be together. And they’d still be trying to have that baby they wanted so badly. And he tells her no matter what her family thinks, she matters to him, she really matters. She’s embarrassed and uninterested and says she should go. He continues that he values her opinions. “And I want your respect. I want to be in your life somehow, and I want you in mine.” She heads out saying she can’t.
Taylor tells Stephanie those are pretty interesting details about her father. Stephanie counters that she thinks most men want sons. They don’t want the sign over the door to say ‘Johnson and daughters’. They want the son to pass the company to. But, her poor dad, all he got was her and Pammy. And Pammy was a girly-girl type of kid always pirouetting around for the ballet in her little pink tutu….always very delicate. And Stephanie on the other hand, her dad thought she was tougher and she was the one who got dragged out in the yard to play football with bruises on her arms and chest from the ball that he threw like a bullet. He threw it hard, but she learned to throw it back. And then because Pam was the youngest, her mother would take her up and give her a bath first and tuck her into bed. That meant that Stephanie got to stay up and be with her dad while he had his after dinner drink, and she loved those times.
Stephanie remembers one of those times when she wanted her dad to read to her from her favorite book. But, he didn’t have time and urged her to finish her milk. She remembers turning it over and him getting angry and scolding her that how many times had he told her to be more careful. She apologies over and over and that it won’t happen again. Taylor asks her if she is okay or did she remember something else? Stephanie first says no, then yes….then back to no, her childhood was really no different than any other child.
