Jackie moans and groans and doesn’t want to continue her therapy, but Florence persists. Simple little tasks such as squeezing a small rubber ball is improving her strength and dexterity. Her head is killing her and she wants her pills, but she can’t have them for another hour. Florence says the doctor gave her strict orders and if Nick wants to change the regimen he’ll have to talk to him about that. Jackie gasps when Florence says they will continue later. She asks Nick to talk to her, keep her mind off the pain. Has he gotten any response from the Forrester’s? He tells her they are meeting this afternoon. So by the end of the day he will either own Forrester Creations or Stephanie will be preparing to go to jail.
The family gathers and Felicia hugs Bridget and says Dante told her about the baby and she is so sorry. She wants her to know she intended for this to work. Rick and Kristen are there as well and lament on Taylor’s circumstances and where this Shane fellow is. Thorne tells them it was an accident and he couldn’t let Taylor go to jail. He loves her too much for that, in fact so much so that he’d asked her to marry him. Everyone, including Ridge, join in the congratulation hugs and well wishes. Eric comments that he is afraid that is all the good news of the day. He wants everyone to sit down and take a look at the document on the table. It contains two fair price assessments of the value of the company and a written statement that they are all willing to sell their stock in the company, another statement that they are willing to resign…..and a non-compete clause. Most are stunned and shocked ….and bought by whom – Marone Industries. Rick wants to know if his mother knows about this? Eric replies that she has tried to talk some sense into Nick, but he’s adamant. He wants Forrester free and clear of all the Forrester’s. Rick exclaims he has lost his mind. Ridge says it’s extortion. All of this because of what happened to Jackie. Eric opines that yes, and what happened to Jackie was Stephanie’s temper. And he states that he’s been up all night with his lawyers trying to find a way out of this, but did not find one. Felicia asks shouldn’t her mom be part of this? Eric answers that this is about protecting her mother, and she won’t see it that way. And what he’s asking them to do is make a very difficult decision, probably the most difficult they’ve ever faced with the family or the business.
At Marone’s, Brooke paces until Nick walks in. She tells him that he is a hard man to catch up with. She asks about his mom, and bets she is glad to be out of the hospital. He remarks that the progress is going slowly, but it might be better if she had some incentive. He’s meeting with the Forrester’s today. Brooke asks if they have made a decision yet? He says they better. Either he walks out of there with half the company or it’s Stephanie’s head on a plate. Brooke asks why does he have to make it sound so ugly? He utters, “because what she did was ugly. To my mother and to you.” And he thinks it’s time she be held accountable. So she can just sit back and have her company run by him and his mother……and Brooke, if she so chooses. And is that why she is here? Has she come to some sort of decision?
Jackie is lying on the couch with a compress on her head. Stephanie walks on in after rapping on the door once. She quips that Jackie is really making herself at home here. Sarcastically, Jackie asks what does she want? Stephanie replies – Nick. Jackie tells her to leave him alone. Stephanie tells her gladly, when he stops trying to blackmail her family. Jackie sniffs that he offered her a very fair price and she should be grateful because quite frankly he didn’t have to offer her anything. Stephanie tells her that the company isn’t for sale. Jackie laments that perhaps her children want to see her go to jail? Yeah, probably be glad to be free of her. Stephanie asks now who’s bullying whom? Jackie says it’s payback. Stephanie remarks, “oh well, it’s not going to work because we’re not going to sell the company to anyone, anytime, ever.”
The family discusses the accident and how Donna saw the whole thing and is ready to testify that it wasn’t an accident, Jackie was pushed. And it will go to trial if they don’t give Nick what he wants. Kristen opines the question is do they really believe their mother deliberately shoved Jackie off the balcony? Eric answers that Stephanie’s temper will be on trial here, and frankly he thinks a first year law student could probably get a conviction. So, the big question here is are they willing to let Nick have the company? Are they willing to sell to keep Stephanie out of jail?
Nick faces Brooke and says he thinks they will do the right thing. He thinks the Forrester’s will resign which means he will own half. Now, does Brooke want to be part of that or not? She turns away and emphatically tells him she can’t, she just can’t. There is NO company without the Forrester’s, and if he can’t see that……He proclaims that he can see these people for who they are. She reminds him that he can’t punish all of them for what Stephanie did. He corrects her, he’s NOT punishing them. He’s giving them a choice. She scolds, “stop it. Don’t pretend you’re on the high ground here.” She says it is revenge, pure and simple and she wants no part of it. She thought she’d explained that to him but apparently he didn’t hear her. And this isn’t about holding Stephanie accountable, it’s about the two of them. Isn’t she right? She knows he’s doing it for ‘us'. He confesses he can finally protect her. She offers that she doesn’t need protection from them or anything else. He must think she is some damsel in distress, but the way he is acting and this person he is becoming – the only thing she is afraid of is him! She feels like he is asking her to benefit from the Forrester’s loss. He points out just like they benefited from hers. Angrily, she tells him she is not going to have this debate with him again. He knows how she feels, so please don’t do this.
Storm comes in expecting to accompany Nick to the meeting. Brooke questions why is he encouraging Nick? He tells her he is sorry, but Nick has a legitimate grievance. Stephanie caused his mother some serious bodily harm. She remarks it isn’t fair that they all go down with Stephanie. (remember, two of these involved are her own children). Storm says maybe not, but then it wasn’t fair for what Stephanie did to Jackie or to their own family, so maybe this is karma. Nick comments that’s right, what goes around comes around, so today everything is coming around for the Forrester’s.
Jackie grimaces and tells Stephanie don’t dare paint herself as the victim here. She can barely walk across the room and has headaches and so much pain. She is living on pain pills. Stephanie snarks that she wishes she had some pain medication to take away the pain that her son is causing her, you know where! Jackie fires back that Stephanie is losing her company; Jackie almost lost her life! Stephanie tells her the company IS her life. It’s her children’s lives; it’s who they are. Jackie says well now they are losing it because of who she is. Stephanie says then they will see what a jury says. She is not going to be blackmailed. Jackie wonders if she will take the risk of going to prison over this? Stephanie reminds her that she came to her house uninvited, that’s called trespassing. And she’d asked her to leave many times. She wouldn’t go and she accosted her. Jackie points out that now Stephanie is accosting her in her house. So would that give her the right to drag her up the stairs and throw Stephanie down? Stephanie recounts that she didn’t drag her up her stairs. She followed. She pleads with Jackie to call Nick and talk to him; stop this vendetta.
The family discusses the situation. They don’t want Stephanie to go to prison, but they don’t want to lose the company either. Eric says he has lost it before. But, Ridge reminds him he only lost controlling interest and he’s lost his position has head designer, but they are talking about the whole damn company now….the building, distribution, the vendors, their buyers……And Eric adds – their name. They have to sign a non-compete clause, Kristen wonders for how long? They are all aghast when Eric answers for ten years! Kristen laments that she has been designing with Tony. Does that mean she can’t do that anymore? Bridget opines that she knows Nick is just upset about his mother. Perhaps she could talk to him. Ridge suggests that this has nothing to do with Jackie or their mother. This has to do with Brooke. Nick is using this to lure her back to him, that’s all. He’s not on some moral quest for justice. “He’s acting like some pimplely-faced kid who’s stealing the little gold bracelet for his girlfriend.” He stands up for emphasis and says no, he’s not going to sign this crap. “I say don’t sell.” In walks Brooke, Nick and Storm.
Jackie and Stephanie continue to quibble and Stephanie points out this is going to end badly for both she and Nick. She pleads with her some more to please rein Nick in. Jackie scoffs that is ironic. Perhaps if her family had reined her in, they wouldn’t be in this mess. Stephanie tells her for God’s sake, the man broke into her home, threw a chair through the window….and if she continues this, she is going to lose all respect and credibility in the industry. All the hard work and all the years in the Jackie M boutique line, it’s just going to disappear. Jackie argues that she has underestimated her and her son; he’s very good at business. Stephanie counters with “oh well, maybe he should learn the lesson. Blackmail does not make friends and does not influence people.” Jackie opines that Stephanie has brought her family to the brink of destruction and still she won’t even try to change. Stephanie says she is there trying to talk to Jackie now. Jackie views it differently – she is there giving her orders and telling her what to do. And she used to wonder how a woman like her could be so hostile. She has a wonderful man beside her and has healthy children, and yet she is still so hostile….so controlling. “But, you know what? I don’t care anymore. I don’t care about you. I don’t want to understand you. All I want is your company or to see you behind bars.”
Nick remarks that he can see this is going to be a short meeting, but he can still catch the D.A. for lunch. Eric answers that they are discussing his offer. Nick quips that the discussion time is over. It’s all or nothing. He wants their stock and their resignations. And if one of them doesn’t sign, the deal’s off. Ridge asks, “what deal, Nick? You’ve put a gun to our heads.” The others join in that why is he doing this to the entire family. Their dad hasn’t done anything to him or Jackie. And he’s spent his entire life making this business. Nick can’t take it away from him. Brooke tugs at Nick to listen to them. He’s stoic. He says they will be paid well for their shares. Nobody is going to walk away empty-handed. That’s their choice…..or watch Stephanie be led away in cuffs. Nick says he’s not here to debate rights anymore. He wants an answer NOW.
Ridge voices his, “go……to…….Hell.” Nick asks if he is speaking for everyone? Is that their decision….they won’t sell…..Stephanie goes to prison? Felicia mentions that even if her mother was indicted, she might get off. He and Jackie would still get nothing. Nick doesn’t flinch. He says he’s willing to take that gamble, are they? Resigned, Eric says they have no choice. He starts to sign the paper…….for Stephanie. Brooke tells him to wait and she tugs on Nick again to listen to her. Look at Eric, look at what he’s doing. Nick tells her she should look. Look at how far this family will go to protect that woman. Doesn’t she get it? She will never be first with them. Brooke says she doesn’t care. But, he’s not going to take this company away from them. This is NOT who he is. She knows he’s not a cruel person. He’s angry, sure, and it’s a tragedy what happened to his mother. But, this is not going to help her. She begs him not to do this. Don’t make the Forrester’s suffer and pay for what Stephanie did. “Don’t take their company away from them.”
