In Cabo, Stephanie implores Brooke, who is in the hot tub and Nick standing closeby, to please come back with her to L.A. The plane is waiting. Brooke states to her that Ridge is too young to have a heart attack. Stephanie says that probably he is, but that is on her conscience. Does she want his death on hers?

At Brooke’s, Jackie calls the hospital for information and then informs Stephen that Stephanie wasn’t lying. Ridge did have surgery. He remarks he overheard her say she was a friend of his father’s? She says yes, both of them actually. Ridge’s biological father married and divorced her. And the man who raised him was her fiancé, or at least she thinks he is. Stephen exclaims, “Eric? He finally developed a spine and walked away from Stephanie?" Jackie giggles that no, he’s behind. Eric married Stephanie again for humanitarian reasons. And meanwhile, he was not-so-secretly engaged to her, as she holds up her ring on the chain. Stephen offers his condolences.

Felicia holds Ridge’s hand as the nurse prepares him for another CAT scan. She is a little short with the nurse and Dante pops in just in time to assuage the situation by saying Miss Forrester appreciates everything they are doing. She confirms that yes she is and perhaps Dante should walk around behind her, giving the world footnotes on her. She tells him her mother went to Mexico. When he says he’s going to leave, she asks him to please stay.

Nick is not budging and he stands by, wrapped only in his towel, and sarcastically asks Stephanie just exactly what does she want Brooke to do for her? Brooke emerges from the tub and puts her robe on. Stephanie tells them if they don’t believe her, they can call the hospital or Eric. Nick scoffs that they could have predicted this one. A crisis as soon as Brooke left Forrester. Brooke asks when did this happen? Stephanie relies within the hour after Brooke left. Nick begs Brooke not to believe this woman after all she has done to her. Stephanie tells Brooke that Ridge’s last words were, “’mother, you’ve taken my life from me.’ And he means you. He needs you right now. Please.”

Jackie feels compelled to explain her relationship with Eric. That he was granting Felicia’s dying wish and what wouldn’t he do for his daughter? Dryly, Stephen says – marry Stephanie. She opines that she was not a roll in the hay for a good time. She and Eric were involved since he’d split with Stephanie last summer. He remarks that he guesses you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Don’t suppose he mentioned that he’d done the exact same thing to Stephen’s wife?....his ex-wife. Jackie asks exactly what? Stephen replies that telling her that she was the one. That he was only staying with Stephanie because of circumstances. That he couldn’t wait to get rid of her, etc., etc., etc. And does Jackie know what that made him? The contingency husband. To have and to have until you can ride off into the sunset with the man of your dreams. And did she know what that made Beth? Disappointed. “In me, because I wasn’t like him. In herself, because she wasn’t dazzling enough to keep his attention. And in life, because it kept them apart.” She was disappointed in everything and everyone …..except….. except of course the brilliant, the beautiful, blameless Eric Forrester.

Still in a feisty, take no prisoners mode, Felicia turns down Dante’s offer for coffee. She remarks the medication make her feel so full all the time……and fat. Nobody ever tells her the truth. Dante says he will. She asks how hideous does she look? He faces her and says she doesn’t. Yes, her hair looks like hell and she’s as pasty as ricotta cheese. But, besides that, she looks better than when he met her. She flirts that she used to be hot. He says yes, but she’s hotter now. She argues that she is bald. He whispers it’s irrelevant. She asks why are they talking about this? And then grabs him in a liplock.

Brooke says she doesn’t understand. Was it a heart attack or a tear in the aortic wall? Stephanie replies she doesn’t know which came first, but Brooke is the reason it happened. Nick barks for her not to blame Brooke. She wanted her gone, and she got her wish. Stephanie explains she is not blaming Brooke, she blames herself. Nick goes and stands by Brooke and tells her this whole thing stinks. But, Brooke says she doesn’t think she’s making this up. It would be too easy to find out the truth. Nick flames Stephanie and gestures, "well, let’s talk about the truth. The truth being that you have said your entire life, that she has ruined your perfectly dysfunctional family and your PERFECT son.”

Stephanie gives a long speech that she thought she knew what her son wanted…she was wrong…..he wanted her…..this happened just as surely as if she had reached inside and stopped the beating of his heart with her own two hands. (Nick’s eyes roll.) She had never acknowledged how much he needed Brooke. And now it might cost him his life. “I know you are going to hate me until the day you die. And I can live with that. I can. But, don’t punish him.” Nick snarks that what is punishing is listening to her. Deadly serious, Stephanie says if anyone else had come here with this news, Brooke would already be on the plane. Please, listen to her now. She wasn’t afraid of much in this world, but she was afraid right now for Ridge. So, she was not asking for HER sake, but for his. “Forgive me. Put our differences aside and just come back with me now.”

Jackie is embarrassed and defensive and mentions that she has asked herself if she’s being a doormat. Sympathetically, Stephen asks her if he can tell her something? Something that he learned the hard way. Selfish people hold all the cards. Selfish people rule the world. They think of their appetites, their good looks, and their money….and for them, what else is there? They never hesitate to reach out for what they want, even if they don’t really want it very much. And they seem powerful, decisive, although they never really make decisions, they just continually act upon every impulse. Jackie listens and she sighs why do they let them? He answers because they are so POLITE. They pick up on their cues and tell them what they want to hear. They hand over what they ask for. And they offer meek objections if they take it without even asking. “I walked away from my marriage because I was CONVINCED that they would never really be mine. And I won’t make that mistake again.” She asks what would he do instead? He replies, “know who I am….and what I want…..and know what’s right, and declare it. He pulls her to him in a kiss. When they break apart, she flutters her eyes almost in disbelief and certainly in pleasant surprise. He says, “something like that.”

Dante and Felicia seem a little surprised at their reaction to their kiss as well. She remarks that she heard he proposed to Bridget, and she said no. How many no’s was this? She’s sorry, but she feels this is so weird, she doesn’t know if it’s right. She admits nobody has touched her in a very long time except to take her pulse or palpate where the tumor used to be. “Sometimes I feel like I’m going to scream unless I’m held by somebody who’s warm and alive.” He comes up behind her and puts his arms around her and gives her a loving hug. She disagrees when he tells her its okay. He remarks that she doesn’t remember, but it was the greatest sex he’d ever had in his life. And she doesn’t remember? She grins possibly. She does remember these hands touching her, and she asks him to touch her now. He caresses her face.

Brooke asks Stephanie if she thinks that with just the wave of her hand they can just erase everything that has happened? Stephanie assures her no, not at all. But, they have a chance here, just this moment, perhaps, to really understand each other. Like a child in school, Nick holds up his hand and says he understands something. “Insanity loves company.” He tells Stephanie that they both feel for her son, but if she really wants to help him, go sit by his bedside. Stephanie won’t give up, and she pleads again for Brooke to come back with her. Nick answers again…..don’t try to bring back a time in Brooke’s life that is over….and don’t act like she is her best friend.

Heartfelt, Stephanie speaks to Brooke and tells her they will never be that. There are too many things she has done that she couldn’t possibly condone. But, if she had just accepted her as Ridge’s choice….who knows what might have happened if she’d welcomed her into the family. Maybe she would have never lost the respect of the one man she had ever loved and her marriage along with it. Again, Nick looks perturbed that Brooke might be falling for all of this. Brooke does ask if she really means that? Stephanie confesses that she knows her hatred of Brooke has made her unlovable. She realizes that now. And Brooke doesn’t hate well. She hasn’t done battle with her all these years without finally figuring that one out. And that’s why she can stand there and ask for her forgiveness. Because, it’s one of those things that comes so naturally for Brooke. “It may be just the very essence of you, the essence of your strength.” And she begs her again to please come with her, for Ridge’s sake.

Nick chirps in that he is sure these words are very meaningful to Brooke. But, what’s done is done. Her life is with him now. And he scoffs when Stephanie suggests it’s of her doings. And he makes fun that why does everything always wrap right back around to Stephanie? She tells him this isn’t about him, so enough’s enough. He suggests again that she go back and be with her son. Sit by his bedside, they will think good thoughts of him from here. And he knows she does not want to hear this, but it’s not going to make any difference whether Brooke is there or not.

She ignores Nick and goes back to Brooke and tells her that sometimes it seems Ridge is sleeping. At others it’s like he’s deeper and further and further away. And the whole time he has been unconscious, he has continuously only said one word over and over…..her name. Nick quips if it were him, he thinks he would call in a team of cardiovascular surgeons, and not an old girlfriend. Stephanie explains that he has the very best medical care possible, but it’s like he doesn’t want to wake up. Ridge had said it to her over and over all the years, but she wouldn’t listen to him. Now she has to accept the fact that it is true. Brooke IS his life!

Brooke seems touched. She asks if Ridge asked for her? Nick states again that Stephanie would say just about anything at this point. Brooke softens; she says he is R.J.’s father, so if he needs her…….Stephanie says she is sorry. She has come here to offer Brooke her rightful place in her family if she will accept it.

Ridge has been wheeled from his room by transport into the CAT scan room and going through some tests.

Felicia tells Dante she can’t tell if they are just getting started……or just getting done. He says it makes no sense, and she replies “none.” He tells her that she was just afraid for her brother and that’s why she is acting this way. She quips that her life is like an open book.

Brooke and Stephanie banter back and forth and Brooke doesn’t know what Stephanie wants from her. She certainly doesn’t expect it when Stephanie says she wants her to teach her to love her like her son does. Brooke says she doesn’t want to hear that, and she’s scaring her. Stephanie assures her all she really wants is her son’s happiness. Nick is fed up with it all and walks off. Stephanie continues that Brooke is the only person that can give Ridge happiness. “And that makes you in my mind, the most precious person in the world.” Brooke reminds her that Stephanie hit her, called her names, she really hurt her. Stephanie acknowledges that; she laughs that she wanted her dead. And all that time, Brooke never stopped loving him. “How good you are. How loyal and faithful you wanted to be.” And Stephanie just wouldn’t let her do that, so can she make it up to her?

Brooke asks how? Stephanie softly repeats again that Ridge needs her. And Stephanie needs her. She hugs her and says, “come home….come home with me, precious girl. Come home with me, and let me be the mother to you that I know you’ve always wanted me to be. Come home, Brooke.” They hold each other, and Stephanie cups Brooke’s face as the women seem to silently come to an understanding of each other with their misty eyes.
