The Bold & The Beautiful Update Tuesday 1/17/06

At Big Bear, when Taylor tells Ridge that she will fight for what they have, for their family, he corrects her with what they ‘had’. She asks is he saying he doesn’t love her any more?

Hector is checking his mail and lovingly glances at a framed photo of he and Taylor at some event. But, his quiet night at his abode is interrupted by Stephanie. Basically in short order she barrels in and tells him to stay out of Taylor’s life; do not see her again. He tells her he’s not sure he can do that. She says oh yes he can and he will. Leave her alone or she promises him that he’ll regret it.

On The Shady Marlin, Brooke and Nick continue their conversation where he is adamant that no matter what, he doesn’t want her to buckle under and get with Forrester again. The thought of them together makes him shutter. He says it tears him up inside and he can’t stand it. Because the same thing is going to happen that always happens – this weird, vicious cycle. He grabs her pretty forcefully and demands that she not give Forrester a chance – do NOT let him back in her life!

As he warms his fingers before the fire, Ridge tells Taylor it’s not a question of love, but of character. She states that he feels she is a hypocrite toward Brooke? He goes into a long speech that when Taylor came back, he felt like all his prayers had been answered. That night in the cemetery, to hold her, to look into that beautiful face again; he felt like they were the only two people in the world. But, the reality was, they weren’t. He had moved on with Brooke. They had built a family, a future together. He says it didn’t mean he loved her any less. He would always love her. She understood him like no other woman ever had or ever would. And she was right about a lot of things he just didn’t want to see, but he does see them now. And what he sees is that she was right about his feelings for Brooke. He had told Taylor that he had put Brooke behind him, but in truth, he hadn’t.

Brooke accuses Nick of seeing her with Ridge again just because Taylor and Ridge are having a marital crisis right now. He shouts then what else does Ridge want? He showed up on her doorsteps and wanted what – forgiveness and understanding. She tells him that doesn’t mean they are going to end up together. Nick tells her my God, that’s exactly what it means. That’s the way he operates; he’s seen it before. And he grabs her again and wants her to promise him that she won’t let him back into her life. “Promise me, no matter what happens, what he says, what he does, you won’t let him……” (hasn’t he forfeited all these rights when he chose Bridget?) She tells him to stop; he doesn’t have to worry. She is not going back to Ridge. She can’t and Nick knows why.

Stephanie has already said a mouthful and Hector is just now closing the door. He tells her she does not run his life. She states she is only trying to save that marriage. He asks if she is blaming their problems on him? Stephanie says Taylor was vulnerable and Hector took advantage of that. (tell her Hector, it takes two to tango). He denies he took advantage. He wags his finger and says he was there to help Taylor come to terms with who she is and what she deserves. She mocks his ‘helping’. He asks doesn’t she think they need it? She replies not from him. Taylor was in love with her husband. They have children; they are a family. She starts out on a lecture that if he interferes; she stops and tells him look, just stay away……or else.

Ridge turns away and Taylor says she doesn’t understand. He states he is sorry; he wanted this to work. But, their marriage hasn’t been working and he thinks they need to look at the reason, the REAL reason why….he’s still in love with Brooke. He says he knows that can’t be easy for her to hear, but it can’t be a complete shock either. She knew there were feelings. That is why they’d gone to counseling. She starts to list what he told the therapist and he says he knows. He thought at the time that he was being honest with her and himself, but……She cries out so it’s been Brooke all along, even though he told her that he would love HER forever. She sobs, ”no, no, no Ridge, whatever you feel for Brooke it’s NOT real. Whatever it is, it’s just not. Your life is with ME. It’s with OUR family!”

He reminds her that he has a family with Brooke too. She shakes him and cries that he is her husband. He renewed his vows to her. He states at his mother’s deathbed, or at least that is what they thought. He puts his hands on her shoulders and prepares her. He didn’t want to hurt her anymore than he wants to hurt her now. And he goes on to say he was SO overwhelmed by her return, he couldn’t even think straight. (how about a 2X4 upside the head?) He goes on a mantra that time didn’t go away; his life didn’t stop. He mourned her; he kept her memory close to his heart. But eventually….eventually he found happiness again….with a hell of a lot of Brooke’s help (we all know what that help can be!) And that happiness only intensified with the birth of their son. And that’s what Taylor came back to. That’s what he had put on hold, trying to pick up where they had left off. But that wasn’t possible; that wasn’t going to happen. He can admit that now…..to himself and to her. “Because I have finally realized that being with R.J. and Brooke is where I need to be.” She winces.

Finally Taylor quiet and reflective, Ridge tells her they have to help Thomas and the girls understand. She says they aren’t telling the children anything. He sits beside her and states that she wants to protect them and so does he. But, on some level they probably already know. They lived with him and Brooke. They saw the love they shared. She jumps up and tells him to stop it. She gestures they are NOT going to give up on this marriage. She cries and begs, “I LOVE you; I NEED you.” Yes, she admits what she did was wrong. Be angry at her, but don’t end this marriage. “Don’t do that to US. Don’t do that to our children. Dear God, please, don’t let it be over. Oh, God!” She’s about to crumble when he can’t stand it any longer and comes to hug and console her.

On the topside of the Marlin, Brooke is looking out over the water. Nick slips up behind her and mentions that it doesn’t seem to get any better, does it? She whispers she is okay; she can’t always follow her heart. She’s learned that the hard way. But, Ridge is always going to be the father of her son and a very important part of her life. But is she ever going to love him again…..or anybody else for that matter? “No, not when I’m…….” She wanders off, back inside the cabin. He follows as she finishes, not when they both are committed to the life he has with Bridget. He affirms that they are. He walks closer as she says Bridget deserves much happiness. He says yes she does, and she’s going to have it. But, doesn’t Brooke deserve to be happy too? (well, let’s see. Nick cuts himself out of the picture and now he wants to make sure Brooke is going to cut Ridge out, so what happiness does that leave?). She tells him she had happiness once, for one, brief, magical moment right here on this boat. And when she thinks of the time they spent together, there was this level of comfort, this connection. And all of her insecurities were gone. With him, there was just peace; he treated her with respect. He honored her with his love. “And even though we can’t be together - I will never forget that - ever.”

She sees his face and tells him she is sorry. He remarks she doesn’t have to be sorry about anything. She knows she can say anything to him. “You can always depend on me. Because I will ALWAYS – I will never stop wanting…… what’s best for you. And Forrester is NOT what’s best for you.” She remarks so Nick doesn’t think Ridge is good enough? He tells her he doesn’t think anybody is good enough for her. But, that doesn’t mean that Forrester is not going to try and convince her that he is. She starts to tell him that Ridge is up at Big Bear with Taylor now. Then it hits her. Maybe he is ending the marriage now in hopes that they will get together. She grabs her phone but has to leave a message on voicemail. She tells Ridge that she knows he is going to talk to Taylor, but she is afraid of what he’s going to tell her for many reasons. Please don’t end his marriage with Taylor, don’t!

Ridge and Taylor cling to each other and then he backs away a little and tells her he thinks they both have been running from the truth for a long while now. Him in Europe and her with Hector. And those are both just symptoms of a much deeper problem in their marriage. One he didn’t realize. And this is killing him, what this is doing to her. And knowing all that she really wanted was to save “us.” But the truth is, that “us” changed forever when that crazy woman pulled that trigger and took her away from him. She ripped Taylor away from him and threw his life into shambles. That “us” they could never get back.

She sniffles, walks away and slumps down onto the couch. Ridge continues that he knows it’s unfair. She’s the one that lost all those years. She’s the one who came back expecting everything to be the same. And he wanted to give that to her. He wanted to give that to their kids. And he thanked God for everything he had given them. He tried to find some way for it to work, to be “us” again. But, it wasn’t just the two of them and their children, but also Brooke and R.J…..and this incredible pull that just keeps getting stronger. His little boy needs him….needs him the same way that Thomas did when he was that age. She remarks but it’s not just R.J.; he needs Brooke!

He reflects….that when she married him, she made him want to be a better person. She had taught him that the most important things in life was family, a home filled with love. And he hopes there is some way, some how that she can forgive him someday. “Because I will always love you. But, I can’t do this. I can’t be your husband anymore.……I’m so sorry, Doc…..I am so incredibly sorry.” She visibly breaks down and falls onto his shoulder shaking with audible sobs, her heart is breaking!
