Lucas: Whoo.

Sami: [Chuckles]

Lucas: Look at this, huh?

Sami: Oh, Lucas.

Lucas: I got to look one more time. Check it out.

Sami: It just doesn't seem real, does it?

Lucas: What?

Sami: Everything, I guess. I dad's speech and... the award and you and Will being so proud of me. I just feel like I'm gonna wake up and it'll all have been a dream.

Lucas: No, it's not a dream. It's genuine. This plaque is real. Sami Brady -- the good Samaritan.

Sami: Who would have guessed, right?

Lucas: Well, I got to admit when you told me you've changed for like the 50th time, I wanted to believe you, but...

Sami: But you couldn't. And who could blame you?

Lucas: But you have changed. You really have. You've proven that. You saved my life. I know I can trust you with my life now.

Sami: [Clears throat]

Lucas: What? What's wrong?

Sami: Nothing.

Lucas: Did I speak too soon?

Sami: What do you mean?

Lucas: Well, is this the real Sami, the one I know? The one who's lying through her teeth right now?

Kayla: Tea's ready.

Marlena: Oh, thanks. Funny, isn't it? The fact that Sami finally begins to become the person I always hoped she would be. The same night that my daughter Belle decides to go on the run from the police.

Kayla: She's doing what she has to do. You said it yourself.

Marlena: Oh, I know. No, I know that. I just -- I'm worried. We haven't heard from them. I'm worried.

Kayla: Well, there's nothing to worry about. Steve is on his way, and he'll know what to do.

Belle: Hey, honey, it's okay. Uncle Steve's gonna be here, and he's gonna get us out of this place. Hey, have you seen her bunny?

Shawn D.: No, but it's got to be around here somewhere.

Belle: Yeah. [Truck approaches]

Shawn D.: It's a delivery truck.

Belle: Who would be delivering packages to an abandoned church? [Truck door closes]

Shawn D.: It's Steve.

Belle: Yay.

Steve: Hey. I understand you got three packages for pickup?

Shawn D.: Man, are we glad to see you. What's with the delivery truck?

Steve: I borrowed it. The less you know about that, the better. Hey. What do you say, baby girl? You ready to take a little road trip? Look, I got a cracker. Look, it's a cracker. There you go.

Philip: Gotcha.

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives.

Sami: Lucas, why do you think I'm lying?

Lucas: Because I know you. And I know when you're hiding something. I know when something's bothering you, and to tell you the truth, it's bothering me, too. When Philip barged into the pub like that and accused everybody of helping Belle and Shawn kidnap Claire -- I don't know what that was all about. It was ridiculous. It was just a bad ending to a perfectly good night.

Sami: Yeah. You know what? I don't know what's gotten into Philip. I mean, he used to be such a good guy. Sorry, honey.

Lucas: That's all right. I know. It beats me. I don't know what's going on with him. That feels better.

Sami: It's not like we were friends or anything, but, I mean, he was a war hero. And I don't understand why he's treating my sister like this. Poor Belle. She must be so scared right now.

Lucas: Yeah, I know it.

Sami: Look, Lucas, if you think that I had anything to do with Belle and Shawn running off with Claire, I didn't.

Lucas: I know you didn't. I don't think that. Nobody does.

Sami: It's not like I wouldn't have helped them. I mean, Belle's my sister, my -- my family. I would do anything for them. But it was so weird. When everyone found out, I mean, no one looked to blame me. And it's been a long time since that happened, and especially your mother. Something goes wrong with one of her sons and she automatically points the finger at me.

Lucas: But she stood up in front of everybody -- friends and family, half of Salem -- and she apologized for misjudging you. Come on, I think she wants a fresh start.

Sami: Yeah, right.

Lucas: Lis-- listen to me. Trust me on this, all right? I think it sunk in with her. It sunk in when she was at the award ceremony. She knows that you saved my life, and you risked your own life to do it. I mean, she owes you. Don't worry about it. And she knows that she can't break us up. She knows that we're gonna be together for a very long...long time. So don't sweat it.

Sami: It's just -- I feel the same way, but what if something happens with your mom and she changes her mind about me?

Lucas: Listen, I am not asking you to be her best friend, all right? Just give her the same respect that she's given you. You know, she wants to mend fences, so just meet her halfway for me, please? Do you think you could do that?

Sami: Okay, Lucas. For you, I will try.

Lucas: Mmm, that is just the sexiest thing I've ever heard you say.

Sami: Me saying that I'm gonna be nice to your mother is sexy?

Lucas: Oh, yeah.

Sami: [Laughs] I wonder what Freud would have to say about that.

Lucas: Who?

Sami: [Laughs] Oh, Lucas.

Kayla: I know you're worried, Marlena. And it's late and you're exhausted, so maybe you should try to rest, and I know we'll know more tomorrow.

Marlena: I can't sleep, not until I hear from Belle or even Steve.

[Cellphone rings]

Kayla: Oh. Hello?

Steve: Hey, baby. I got to make this quick. I'm with the kids. Everybody's okay. Getting ready to get out of here.

Kayla: It's Steve. He's with the kids, and they're fine.

Steve: Is that Marlena?

Kayla: Yeah, I'm still at her place, and needless to say, she's very concerned, so will you be able to keep in touch?

Steve: Once we get on the road, I won't be able to use this phone.

Kayla: All right. Well, promise me that you'll be careful. I mean, we're all counting on you.

Steve: I love you, sweetness. I'll call you as soon as I can.

Kayla: I love you, too.

Marlena: Kayla...what did he say? Tell me everything.

Kayla: Well, there's nothing really to tell at this point. He's with them, and they're okay. He's gonna take good care of them.

Marlena: Yes, he will, won't he? Yes. He won't let anything bad happen to them.

Kayla: No, he won't. Listen, do you mind if I excuse myself? I'd really like to check in with Stephanie and make sure she's all right.

Marlena: Of course. Please do that. I'm so sorry. don't have to stay. I'm all right.

Kayla: All right.

Steve: Looks like we got company.

Shawn D.: All right, so, Steve should be around back by now. We should get going.

Belle: I still can't believe he's willing to do this for us. He could really get into a lot of trouble.

Shawn D.: Yeah, well, my uncle's into that sort of thing.

Belle: What, getting into trouble?

Shawn D.: No, taking chances. He said that if the reward is big enough, then the person should be willing to walk through a fire storm, and I'm up for it.

Belle: And so am I.

Shawn D.: Are you ready?

Belle: Scared, but ready. Are you ready?

Shawn D.: This is the only thing that we can do. There's no other choice. So let's go.

Philip: I don't think so. You're not going anywhere.

Sami: Lucas, I have to ask you something.

Lucas: Now? You have to ask me now?

Sami: Are you happy?

Lucas: Of course I'm happy. But if you have to ask me that, obviously I'm doing something wrong. Are you happy?

Sami: No, I -- I didn't mean it like that. I don't mean, you know, this -- do you want me. Are you really happy?

Lucas: Yeah, I'm happy. And I know exactly what you mean. I'm the happiest I've ever been. Honey, I thought you knew that.

Sami: I do. I mean -- I mean, I do right now.

Lucas: You do right now? What do you mean?

Sami: Well, everything is going really good for us, and, I mean, even weirder, it's actually going great for me. And people are giving me awards and calling me hero and stuff, but when that goes away, when people forget -- which, of course, they will -- I'm just gonna go back to being regular old me.

Lucas: So what? That's perfect. What are you worried about?

Sami: The me that I have always been and always will be has never been able to keep this family together. What if that hasn't changed?

Kayla: So, Stephanie, it's nothing urgent. I just wanted you to know that your cousin and Belle and the baby, they're all fine, and, um...anyway, just call me back, okay? All right, doll, bye-bye.

Marlena: John.

Shawn D.: How the hell did you find us?

Philip: It wasn't too hard. My good friend Meems snapped like a twig.

Belle: What did you do to her?

Philip: Just made her understand how far I'd go to get my little girl back.

Belle: Philip, why? Why are you acting like this? I mean, I know that you were hurt, but we've always been friends, and we care about each other.

Philip: Friends? You were my wife, Belle...even if I was the only person in town that didn't know you still had a thing for your ex-boyfriend the whole time we were married.

Shawn D.: Oh, so that's what this is about. You got hurt and you want revenge.

Philip: No, I couldn't care less about that now. All I care about is Claire. And the truth is, she deserves better than either one of you.

Shawn D.: Let's go, Belle. Come on.

Philip: Yeah, right. The cops are already on their way. Where the hell are you gonna run to anyway, hmm? Not only do I have the Salem P.D. on my side, but I got the D.A., The Family Court, and the Kiriakis name. What do you got?

Belle: You will never take my daughter. You'll have to kill me first.

Philip: What was that you said in the hospital? Huh? Oh, yeah. She's my daughter, not yours. Oh, don't look at me like that, Belle. You brought this all on yourself. It's okay, princess. Daddy's here.

Belle: No. No.

Philip: Belle.

Belle: No.

Philip: Belle.

Belle: You'll never get her.

Philip: It's okay, princess. Daddy's here.

Marlena: Who's there? Who's there?

John: Doc?

Marlena: John, I'm here. I'm right here. Where are you?

John: I need you. Need you.

Marlena: John, I can hear you, but I can't see you. Just tell me where you are. I'm right here.

John: Right here, Doc. Help me.

Marlena: Yes. Yes. John, I'm here. I'm here, I'm coming. I'm coming.

John: Doc.

Marlena: John, I'm here. I'm trying, I'm here. I'm trying. I just can't see you.

John: Doc, I need you.

Marlena: John.

John: Help me, Doc.

Marlena: I'm right here. John, I'm coming towards you.

John: I'm right here. Help me, Doc.

Marlena: I'm coming. I'm coming. I'm coming. There you are. John, I can see you. I can see you. You want to tell me something. What is it? John, what is it? Was it about -- was it about Steve?

Marlena: John? John? John.

Kayla: Marlena, Marlena, you must be having a nightmare.

Marlena: No, no, no. No, it was real. John was here. He was trying to tell me something. He was here.

Lucas: What are you afraid of? I mean, you've changed. You're a different person now. You got to know that, Sami.

Sami: I do. I mean, I know, but...

Lucas: But what?

Sami: This whole saving-your-life thing, it's just -- it's getting to me. I know you've said that you would still feel the same way about me even if I hadn't, but -- but what if I hadn't? Do you really think we would still be here like this right now?

Lucas: Look, don't get mad at me or anything, but are you crazy? Have you lost your mind?

Sami: What?

Lucas: Honey, I have loved you forever. I've loved you ever since I laid my eyes on you. I think I was just a little too stupid to know it.

Sami: Really?

Lucas: Look, I've been with my share of women, yeah, but nobody comes close to the way I feel about you. Nobody. I mean, the way I feel about you, when I'm around you, whether we're in the kitchen or the laundry room or your grandparents' pub -- honey, it takes every ounce of energy I have, all the strength -- I muster it just so I don't throw you into a dark corner and make mad, passionate, sweaty love to you. I'm serious.

Sami: Even in my grandparents' pub?

Lucas: Definitely your grandparents' pub.

Sami: [Laughing] Lucas!

Lucas: What, you got that effect on me. I'm sorry. And listen, I...I love you. I don't care if you win 100 good-Samaritan awards or you win the Nobel prize for making peace with my mom. None of that matters to me. It doesn't make me love you any more than I already do. And you saved my life. Yeah, so you saved my life, which makes me love you a little more, but I loved you before you lifted that beam off my leg.

Sami: Lucas...I love you. I love you so much.

Lucas: Doesn't it feel good? Doesn't it feel good to say? I love my baby.

Sami: [Laughs] Shut up. Um...

Lucas: What? What did I do?

Sami: No, no, nothing.

Belle: No. You are not taking my daughter, Philip. Get away from me right now.

Philip: It's over, Belle. This is happening. Claire is coming home with me.

Belle: No!

Steve: Sorry, dude, that ain't happening. Come on.

Belle: Oh, my God. Shawn, are you okay?

Shawn D.: Uhh.

Belle: Oh, my God.

Shawn D.: Yeah, I'm okay.

Steve: You sure?

Shawn D.: I'm okay, yeah.

Steve: Let's get out of here before sleeping beauty wakes up.

Belle: No, we can't just leave him here. What if he's really hurt?

Steve: He's not dead. He'll have a nasty bump on his head, but that only bought us a couple of minutes. Let's book, come on. Get the baby in the car. Let's go.

Shawn D.: Just give me a minute. I'll be right with you.

Steve: What are you doing? Get out there with her.

Shawn D.: I got to take care of him. But I need your help.

Steve: Hurry up. Let's go. Up, up, up. Okay, let's book.

Philip: Hey! Hey! Let me out of here! Let me out!

Kayla: Here you go. Are you feeling better?

Marlena: No. I know this must sound crazy to you, but this was not a dream.

Kayla: Marlen--

Marlena: The night that John was shot, before he went into surgery, he was trying to tell me something, something really important. I think he's still trying to get a message to me.

Kayla: What kind of message?

Marlena: Well, I...I hate to say it, but... it was about Steve, I believe.

Belle: This is really dangerous. We should have a car seat for Claire.

Steve: Damn, I should have thought of that. I'm sorry.

Shawn D.: Hey, just hold her close, okay? She's a lot safer in your arms than she is back there with that maniac. Steve...steve, you okay, man?

Steve: What? No, I'm good, I'm good. Everything's cool. [Sighs] You kids just relax. There's nothing to worry about. Just leave the driving to me.

Lucas: Are you serious, Roman? Oh, my God. Well, no, no. We haven't heard a thing. Yeah, will do. If we hear anything, we'll give you a call. All right, sorry about that.

Sami: Sorry, sorry. I thought it was just the excitement, but I'm not feeling very well. Who was on the phone?

Lucas: Well, that was your dad. He wanted to know if we had seen or heard from Lexie.

Sami: Lexie? Why would he call us?

Lucas: I guess he's calling everybody. She's missing.

Sami: Missing?

Lucas: Yeah, she fell off the face of the earth or something. I don't know.

Sami: What? That sounds bad.

Lucas: That's not all. Your dad also said that Abe told him that it wasn't Lexie who saw E.J. shoot John. It was Tek.

Sami: Oh, my God.

Lucas: Yeah, that means that the case against E.J. could be blown to bits.

Kayla: Marlena, why would you think if John was trying to tell you something that it had something to do with Steve?

Marlena: Because of what happened...the night he was brought into the hospital. Before he went into surgery, he said -- it was ever so faint -- but he looked right at Steve and he said the word "killer."

Kayla: What are you getting at?

Marlena: Maybe E.J. told John something before he shot him. Maybe Steve is the DiMeras’ next target. Oh, dear, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. I didn't mean to scare you. I-I-I can be just imagining all that.

Kayla: You know what? Maybe you're not. You know, um, Steve has been having these strange episodes and we don't really know what's wrong with him.

Marlena: What kind of episodes?

Kayla: Well, there's these loud noises in his head -- this pounding -- and he becomes completely disoriented and disconnected from reality. He's even become violent.

Marlena: Kayla, he hasn't ever tried --

Kayla: No, no. He would never lay a hand on me. No. But when something triggers this noise, it's like he loses control completely. I think it has something to do with his past, and Steve has reason to believe that the DiMera’s were somehow involved during those missing years.

Marlena: Did he remember that?

Kayla: No, not really remembered, but he has these flashes of things. And it all started the night that we had dinner with Benjy.

Marlena: Stefano's son. Ooh. So, there is a connection.

Kayla: Steve thinks so. Honestly, I don't know what to think. But I know it's killing him. And it's killing me that I can't help him.

Steve: Put those mittens back on the baby.

Belle: Why?

Steve: You don't want to leave even a baby fingerprint behind on this truck. Don't leave any of her stuff or yours, either. No clues just in case.

Belle: I didn't really think about that.

Shawn D.: Steve, man, how can we ever thank you for this?

Steve: Don't worry about it. You're Kayla's favorite nephew, right? Now, down to business. Canada's a big place. Where exactly in Canada do you want to go?

Shawn D.: I was thinking Montréal. Hopefully our passports won't get flagged when we're trying to leave the country.

Steve: I think that's a mistake. I'd go with the freighter.

Belle: A cargo ship?

Steve: Yeah, you pay somebody off on the crew, maybe a couple of grand, then you can stow away. Passports are no problem. You do have money, don't you?

Shawn D.: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, we've got a little bit.

Steve: A little bit? Well, you should have told me. I could have brought you some. You can't go on the run without cash.

Shawn D.: Steve, everything happened so fast. I didn't have time to think about it.

Steve: Well, you should have.

Shawn D.: I know, I know. I'm gonna figure it out. After everything that you and Kayla have done for us, the last thing that we want to do is take your money.

Steve: Come on, we got to find a way to get you kids some money.

Belle: Shawn's right. Steve, we really appreciate everything you're doing, but once we get where we're going, I think we can handle it.

Steve: Well, it's your call. I think you're making a big mistake.

Sami: Lucas, come here -- oh, sorry. Just tell me everything that my dad said to you on the phone.

Lucas: It was like a 30-second conversation. I don't know if I could tell you everything.

Sami: Well, you have to be able to remember. Come on, please. It's important.

Lucas: Basically, Lexie told Abe that it was Tek who saw E.J. shoot John, not her. And I guess that's why she was lying about it 'cause she didn't want Abe to know that they were together that night.

Sami: Okay, so go on.

Lucas: Well, I guess they got into it. Lexie and Abe got into it and he kicked her out, so she hooked up with Tek.

Sami: And how do they know that?

Lucas: Because they found Tek's car off Route 9 and no sign of either of them anywhere.

Sami: Oh, my God. It was him.

Lucas: "It was him." Who? Who's "him"?

Sami: Lucas, it was E.J. He arranged for them to disappear.

Lucas: What are you talking about? How can it be E.J.? He's in Mexico hiding out.

Sami: Lucas, it's the only thing that makes sense. How come they can't find their bodies?

Lucas: Who knows, all right? Maybe Lexie and Tek took off. Maybe they just didn't want to face the music. You ever think of that?

Sami: No, no. Lexie would never leave her son.

Lucas: What's wrong with you? Why are you going on like this?

Sami: Because, Lucas, I am scared. What if E.J. found out that Lexie and Tek witnessed him shooting John and he had them eliminated because he didn't want to go to jail? So that means he'll take out whoever else can put him away, and we are next on that list.

Philip: Help! Somebody, help me! Let me out of here! Help! Help!

Officer: Police. Come out with your hands in the air.

Philip: I'm Philip Kiriakis, you idiot! I'm the one who called you! They locked me up in here! Let me out! What the hell took you so long? Shawn and Belle are probably across State lines with my daughter.

Officer: Sorry, buddy.

Philip: They're not alone. Someone knocked me out, and it wasn't either one of them. Now, how about you get on your radio and call some backup before they get further away?

Officer: All right.

Steve: I know you didn't ask for my opinion, but I've been there. What you're heading into is not gonna be easy.

Shawn D.: I know, I know. We realize that.

Steve: Remember when Aunt Kayla said you'd always be looking over your shoulder, waiting for them to catch up to you? Well, 99 times out of 100, that's what's gonna happen, so you got to keep moving. To keep moving you need cash.

Shawn D.: I know, Steve. I just -- everything happened so fast, I didn't have time to think about it.

Steve: Well, you should have.

Shawn D.: I'll just get a job or something, you know, doing something.

Steve: Well, where, how, man? You're on the run. How are you gonna feed your family and keep a roof over your head? What if the baby gets sick and you need a doctor? How are you gonna pay for that? How are you gonna do it, Shawn?

Shawn D.: I don't know. I'll figure something out. Jeez, lay off, man.

Steve: I'm sorry. I'm just trying to give you a reality check. Life on the road is not easy, especially when that old snake Kiriakis is the one on your tail. You take it from someone who knows.

Lucas: What are you so upset for? Your dad didn't say anything about E.J.

Sami: This is not in my imagination, Lucas. E.J. actually called me, remember?

Lucas: So what?

Sami: "So what."

Lucas: Look, even if he snuck back into Salem, all right, and he managed to get past the police and the feds and everybody, and what did he do, run Lexie and Tek off the road, dispose of their bodies, and then vanish into thin air? Why would he come after us?

Sami: You don't understand.

Lucas: What? What don't I understand? Tell me.

Kayla: Marlena, if you have some idea how to help Steve, I would love to hear it.

Marlena: I was thinking that perhaps I could help him as a professional.

Kayla: Well, I thought of that. And I appreciate your offer, really, but he's not really the therapy kind of guy. You know, he said he's been there, done that.

Marlena: And doesn't like to open up, huh?

Kayla: I guess not.

Marlena: Well, there are other kinds of therapy, you know, not quite as traditional. We could try hypnosis. Anyway, it couldn't hurt, could it?

Kayla: Like I said, I am willing to try anything.

Marlena: Hopefully Steve will be, too.

Kayla: Yeah. I know that he's worried himself, you know, scared about what's going on in his head, even though he's downplaying it. You know what I think frightens him the most? Is not knowing what happened during those missing years and afraid that he's gonna find out something about himself he doesn't want to face.

Marlena: I really understand that kind of fear. But I think he can do it and get this all behind him. I think, perhaps, he will because he has the two of us to help him do it.

Shawn D.: All right, I know Victor is bad news. I still can't believe that he tried to frame you and Aunt Kayla for attempted murder. I don't get -- how does he get away with all this stuff?

Steve: It all comes down to money, kid. Money and power. And your grandpa's got both in spades.

Belle: And what really scares me is that we all know that Victor always gets what he wants, and what he wants right now is Claire.

Shawn D.: He's not gonna get Claire, all right? Not ever. I told you that I'm gonna protect both of you and that is exactly what I'm gonna do.

Steve: I think you two are gonna be okay if you just stick together. But I want you to get some sleep. You're gonna need it. Once we cross the border into Canada and ditch this truck, you're gonna be on your own from there on out. You got to go to sleep.

Shawn D.: You know, he's right. We should just get some rest.

[Rock music plays]

Philip: Yeah, Dad, I tracked them down, but they got away. No, believe me, I'm not giving up. Hopefully they left behind some clue where they were headed.

Officer: Mr. Kiriakis, excuse me. Um, just got word from the station that a delivery truck was stolen from a lot not too far from here. We got the plate numbers.

Philip: Good to know. Dad? I think we may have a lead.

Lucas: You all right? You were in there a long time. Are you sick or something? If you want, I could -- I could call a doctor, honey.

Sami: No. No, it's okay. I'm not sick.

Lucas:'s been a long night...and we're both exhausted, so why don't we just go to bed and cuddle under the covers, all right? How does that sound? Does that sound good? Sami, can you hear me?

Sami: Yeah. There's something I have to tell you...first. Something you have to know.

Lucas: What is it? What?

Sami: I'm pregnant. [Sobbing]

Nick: I think we need to talk. Don't you, about that night?

Shawn D.: Pull over, all right?

Steve: I'm not pulling over!

Shawn D.: We're not gonna make it.

Roman: What were your reasons for coming back?

E.J.: Your daughter, for one. We've become...very close.

Lucas: You don't want to have this baby, do you? Honey, that's all right. We'll find a way.
