Brooke: You can deny it all you want, but it sounds to me that Taylor is in desperate need of a professional evaluation.

Nick: Well, thank you for your concern.

Brooke: My concern is for our child as well.

Nick: Well, you don't have to worry. Jack has everything he needs.

Brooke: Does he? The first few months are very critical in the way you develop relating to others. Now if Taylor's unstable behavior is gonna jeopardize that, then--

Nick: Hang on a second now. You've got plenty going on in your life. The last thing I want you worrying about is Jack's future. Everything is under control. I gotta run.

Brooke: No, wait, Nick, please. Just sit down.

Brooke: All I'm saying is that at some point Taylor may need more support than you're able to offer. Just think about that.

Nick: I will.

Nick: Everything's gonna be fine.

Jackie: Okay, little one, let's give you some milk here so that you grow up to be big and strong just like your daddy. It's okay. Here you go. There you go. Speaking of which, I wonder where your daddy is. Hmm.

Brooke: Would you mind putting this in a to go cup? Thanks.

Taylor: Oh, hey. Leaving so soon?

Jackie: It's off to dreamland. Off to dreamland.

(Door opens)

Nick: Hey. How's the little guy doing?

Jackie: Shh. I think he's falling asleep.

Nick: Oh, good.

Jackie: Oh, he's so wonderful.

Nick: Thanks. Hey. You sleep tight, buddy. Sleep tight. Where's Taylor?

Jackie: Well, I rather thought she might be with you. After you left, she changed her mind. She said she was going to meet you at insomniac.

Nick: She never showed.

Jackie: Is everything all right with Taylor? I mean, a mother picks up on these kind of things, you know.

Nick: No, she's-- she's fine.

Jackie: Nicky...

Nick: There's a problem, Mother, and it's with Jack.

Jackie: What? No. He's all right, isn't he? I mean, he's not sick.

Nick: He's fine. He's as healthy as can be.

Jackie: Oh, good. What is it then?

Nick: Do you remember the day that Taylor had her in vitro procedure-- her regular doctor was called away, and Bridget was asked to step in?

Jackie: Yes, yes, I remember.

Nick: Well, that's where the problem lies. The fertility lab accidentally delivered the wrong donor's egg for Bridget to implant. The one Taylor and I selected never was implanted.

Jackie: Oh. Oh. Well, whose egg was implanted?

Jackie: Nicky? Who was the woman?

Nick: It was Brooke.

Jackie: Brooke?

Jackie: Brooke is the biological mother of your child?

Brooke: Hi, Taylor. Wow, what a surprise. I thought you'd be tucked in bed with Jack right now, but since you're not, let's sit down.

Taylor: Oh! Oh, goodie. Yeah, let's sit down and have a little girl talk. That sounds like a lot of fun. You want to do that?

Brooke: On second thought, maybe I better be going.

Taylor: Oh, no. Oh, wait, wait, wait. What's your hurry? I mean, I think you have nothing but time on your hands. I saw you spend a lot of time talking to my husband.

Brooke: Look. It's not what you think. We were just--

Taylor: I just want to know one thing-- who the hell do you think you are?

Jackie: Brooke is the mother of your son? Wow. Wow, this is-- oh, that's completely mind-boggling. Well, no wonder Taylor was acting the way that she has been acting. I mean, learning after giving birth that the child that she had been carrying all that time was Brooke's?

Nick: Well, it's been a difficult process, to say the least. We're working through it.

Jackie: Really? Um, well, how is Brooke handling the situation?

Nick: Well, she was shocked like all of us at first, but she knew there wasn't a lot of time. Jack was sick. He needed a bone marrow transplant, and she agreed immediately.

Jackie: Well, thank goodness that worked out, or has it? Well, Nicky, what if Brooke decides that she wants to raise Jack? I mean, after all, she could. She's the biological mother. She has--

Nick: Not gonna happen, Mother. She signed donor papers. She gave Taylor and me full custody of Jack.

Jackie: Oh, she really is amazing.

Nick: She's doing what she can. She doesn't want Taylor to think that someday she's gonna lay claim and say, "Jack's mine."

Jackie: How is Taylor with everything?

Nick: Well, you know, not-- not so good at first, but Brooke's been talking to her and trying to assure her that Taylor is the mother of our son.

Jackie: Yeah, well, is that really true? I mean, considering how close Brooke came to giving you a child at one time, is that how she really feels? Or maybe you're downplaying the strength of her feelings toward you and that beautiful child.

Brooke: Stop it.

Taylor: You don't get it, do you? Really. What part of, "stay away from my husband" do you not understand?

Brooke: I didn't even know he was coming here.

Taylor: Oh, you know what I think? I think you have a tracking device on his car. That's what I think. That way, you can know where he is at all times.

Brooke: I wouldn't lie to you.

Taylor: You just did.

Brooke: I wasn't following him. It was a complete chance encounter.

Taylor: Okay, excuse me while I'm not believing you.

Brooke: Look. I know you're going through a lot right now, and I'm willing to help.

Taylor: Oh, stop it. Don't even try to pretend you're gonna be my friend.

Brooke: You and Nick are dealing with a lot.

Taylor: Oh. Oh, what exactly are you referring to?

Brooke: I just want you to know that I'm going to be very sensitive to your feelings, and I'm not gonna jeopardize what you and Nick share.

Taylor: Oh. Are you telling me that Nick talked to you about me?

Brooke: Taylor, we're just concerned about you, that's all.

Taylor: Oh, "that's all." You know what? Your relationship with my husband is disgusting. You are disgusting. I can't even look at you right now without wanting to puke. You ruined my life, Brooke. I want you gone. I want you to go away.

Jackie: It's a miracle, Nicky. You have the one thing you always wanted-- a child with Brooke.

Nick: Brooke is the egg donor, Mother, that's it. (Exhales deeply) we both know how much I wanted to have a child with Brooke at one time, but it didn't happen.

Jackie: Oh, but it did happen. It all makes sense now. That twinkle in his eye, that beautiful smile and that mop of blond fuzz on his head. There's no doubt who his biological mother is. He's Brooke's son.

Nick: I really wish you wouldn't say that, Mother, please.

Jackie: Jack is a miracle, Nicky, in every sense of the word. He is the child you always wanted. He's the son you always wanted, and he belongs to you and Brooke.

Taylor: One thing. One thing is all I ask for in life, and that was to have a child with Nick, but, no, you even went and botched that up.

Brooke: It was never my intention for this to happen, Taylor.

Taylor: Oh, I know, just like it's never your intention to unintentionally take everything away from me. I don't know, was it unintentional when you went chasing after Ridge as if he and I weren't even married, or--I don't know. That was probably something that just happened. And now I guess it's unintentional that you're trying to take my baby away from me? How low can you go? News flash-- it ain't happenin' this time.

Brooke: I would never do something like that, but we need to focus on what's important here, and that little baby is important, and he needs his mother. He needs to feel loved and secure at all times.

Taylor: You know what I have to say to that? Go to hell.

Brooke: Taylor, you don't mean that. You have no reason to be upset with me.

Taylor: Are you for real?

Brooke: Yes, I am.

Taylor: Okay. All right. Why don't you name one thing-- just one thing you've done in your life that would make me want to call you a decent human being?

Brooke: I gave you a gift, letting go of my child.

Taylor: A gift. Is that-- is that what you call it? You gave me a gift. Okay, well, when I go to the card store today, I'll try to go to that thank you section and find the one that says, "thank you for letting me give birth to your child."

Brooke: Maybe gift wasn't the right word.

Taylor: You think? And while you're out today, why don't you give your regards to that daughter of yours. She's such a pro at in vitro.

Brooke: Taylor, what happened with Jack was a miracle.

Taylor: No, what happened with Jack was a disaster.

Brooke: Do you really mean that? You think Jack is a disaster? How could you even say something like that?

Taylor: That--that-- that is not what I meant. What I-- I was talking about the event. The event was a disaster. I'm not saying that Jack was a mistake. It's--damn it. See what you do to me? I don't even know what's coming out of my mouth anymore.

Nick: You're wrong, Mother. Taylor and I are Jack's parents. We will be raising this boy. Brooke has nothing to do with that, are we clear?

Jackie: If Taylor can handle the situation.

Nick: She will eventually.

Jackie: You mean she hasn't already?

Nick: It's just gonna take a little bit more time. She's getting closer and closer to this boy every day.

Jackie: Well, then that's good. You shouldn't have any problem having a perfectly normal life together with your child, except if she can't handle the fact that Brooke is the biological mother.

Nick: That's not gonna happen.

Jackie: But if it does, I can perfectly understand Taylor's disposition, given the history that they both share with you.

Nick: Mother. God. Do you realize what you're saying, that this eats away at my brain every day?

Jackie: Yes. It must be torment for you, but nothing compared to the torment that Taylor must be going through. I mean, carrying Brooke's baby for all those months, giving birth to a child that you share with Brooke. I mean, every time she looks at Jack's face, she sees Brooke.

Jackie: Have you thought what might happen to Taylor if the torment is too much for her? I mean, she's not gonna be able to be a good mother. She's not gonna be able to be a good wife. Your-- your lives are gonna be hell. What's gonna happen to that poor baby?

Taylor: I did not mean that the way it sounded. I know that Jack deserves to have all the love and nurturing he can get.

Brooke: I agree.

Taylor: And he deserves to have a stable home, and that's what I want to do. I want to be the best mother possible.

Brooke: Okay, it's really good to hear you say that, but how can you say in one breath that you're gonna be a good mother and in the other breath that Jack is a disaster?

Taylor: I'm trying to hold it together. I think under the circumstances I'm doing pretty well. I know I'm getting a little emotional, and that does scare the hell out of me.

Brooke: I'll have you know that this disaster helped produce a beautiful baby boy. You are so blessed.

Taylor: I know, I know. It's just that it's also been the biggest nightmare of my life.

Brooke: Well, you're gonna have to learn to get past that and move on.

Taylor: I'm trying, and I'm doing pretty-- pretty good for a little while, and then I start thinking. I start thinking about things like... what your daughter did.

Brooke: No, no. Don't bring my daughter into this.

Taylor: How can I not? Brooke, she was the one who orchestrated this whole thing. She went and she got the eggs, and she fertilized them--

Brooke: Don't go there, Taylor.

Taylor: I'm just telling you what I see and what I know, and she knew that you wanted to be with Nick, and she knew that you wanted to have a baby with him.

Brooke: Oh, my God. I'm not even gonna listen to this.

Taylor: Why, because it's true?

Brooke: Are you saying that Bridget and I plotted this whole thing?

Taylor: That's what I want to know.

Brooke: Taylor, no. You're being absolutely paranoid. You have everything that you could possibly want. You have a great marriage. You have a beautiful child. Now what you need to do is you need to accept him. You need to accept him and love him and be his mother, but you also need to be the strong person that we know you as. Can you do that? Can you be the person that we've always admired? 'Cause I know Nick wants that, and I know you want that, too. Come on, please, just get a grip. Take control of yourself and your feelings, or else it is possible, Taylor, that you might just lose that little baby boy. Taylor, please, just look at me.

Brooke: Oh, my God, what's wrong? Are you hyperventilating? Taylor. Wait. Calm down and just breathe. Look at me. Taylor. I need some help in here! Wait, wait. Can you call an ambulance? Right away, please. Taylor, I need you to breathe. Just breathe deeply and look at me. Focus on something. You have to calm down. Just calm down, and you'll be all right. Taylor, Taylor. Oh, my God! Taylor! Taylor! Oh! Taylor.
