[Intercom buzzes]

Massimo: Yes, Heidi? Send her in.

Stephanie: You haven't called me.

Massimo: I've been away a few days. So how was the wedding?

Stephanie: It was lovely. Thank you.

Massimo: Did Eric show up?

Stephanie: Yes. He had a change of heart.

Massimo: How magnanimous. And Ridge, of course, was there.

Stephanie: Of course.

Massimo: I've been thinking about him.

Stephanie: I'm sure you have.

Massimo: And I've come to a decision.

Stephanie: I thought everything had been decided.

Massimo: For you, perhaps, but not for me. Stephanie, I cannot go on like this. Ridge has got to know that I'm his father.

Brooke: How could I let this happen? I'm pregnant. Pregnant.

[Knock at door]

Bridget: Mom, you in there?

Brooke: I already heard.

Bridget: Oh, well, we just came by to return the wedding gown. And to say hi.

Brooke: Hi. So whose idea was it?

Bridget: To renew the vows. Mine.

Deacon: And it was a good one, too.

Brooke: If you say so.

Bridget: Mom, what is it going to take for you to change your attitude?

Brooke: I don't know, honey. I honestly don't know.

Rick: Why are you taking me here? What's this all about?

Amber: I'll show you.

Rick: Whose grave is this?

Amber: Our son's.

Rick: Our son is buried here?

Amber: Yeah.

Rick: I am so -- so sorry that you were left here all alone. Oh, God -- God, I pray that you've been watching over my son -- taking care of him. And holding him in your arms. Please continue to bless and care for my child. You would have had such a wonderful life. I can't help but think that -- that if I had been there when you were born, there was something I could've done. I'm sorry. You deserved so much more than this.

Amber: You really resent me, don't you? It's all the lies that I told.

Rick: And that you will continue to tell.

Amber: Do you enjoy being cruel to me?

Rick: No. But Amber, you have burned me so many times.

Amber: That's why I brought you here. This is where all the lies began. That's the reason why our first baby, he died at birth. Because I was being punished --

Rick: No, no, Amber, no. No, that isn't the reason why our child died. What you did was wrong. But it has absolutely nothing to do with our baby's death. That's ridiculous.

Amber: Is it? Is it? Anyway, this is why I brought you here. Because this is where it all began. And this is where it's all going to end, too.

Rick: Amber, actions speak louder than words. You have got to live it. That is the only proof. And you haven't been able to do that.

Amber: I can, I can. And I will.

Rick: We'll see.

Amber: I just can't do this anymore.

Rick: Can't do what, Amber?

Amber: I can't go on living like this. I can't. You look at me and I feel like a ghost. You don't even see me. And when you do see me, it feels like you're just -- just looking right straight through me. And it hurts. It hurts so much, because of how much I love you.

Bridget: Mom -- look, I want this problem between us to go away, but you're making it awfully difficult.

Brooke: It's not going to go away anytime soon, Bridget.

Bridget: God, why can't you just let this go?

Deacon: Bridget, Bridget, listen to me, hey. Why don't you head over to your brother's party. And I'll meet you there soon.

Bridget: You're not gonna have any luck with her, Deacon.

Deacon: I know, I know. But I can try though. Come on.

Bridget: All right.

Deacon: Brooke, you've got to get over this. You got to let it go. You got to forget what happened between us and stop stressing. Brooke, I meant what I said, I'm not going to tell Bridget what happened.

Brooke: Unfortunately, you may not have any control over that.

Deacon: What, you're gonna say something to her?

Brooke: No.

Deacon: Well, then what?

Brooke: I just wish I could believe you.

Deacon: About what?

Brooke: About your feelings. That you really do love my daughter.

Deacon: Is that what you want to hear?

Brooke: There you go again. What are you doing? Why do you that? I don't know how to take it.

Deacon: It's a simple question.

Brooke: No, it isn't. You're probing. You want to know how I feel. Well, it shouldn't matter how I feel. You're married to my daughter. And just for the record -- I feel nothing.

Deacon: Is that why you're crying, Brooke?

Brooke: No, I'm crying because my life has become so complicated.

Deacon: But I have nothing to do with that, right?

Brooke: When are you gonna get it through your skull that the world doesn't revolve around you? Because it doesn't. You're not even a blip on my radar screen, and I shouldn't be one on yours.

Deacon: Who says you are? Brooke, I've been thinking about this, and I don't think you and I should see each other anymore. I don't think it's good for you, I don't think it's good me, Bridget. Look, we renewed our vows. And I intend on keeping them. You're right about what you said, it is over between us. No strings, right, that is what you said? There's nothing between us, right? So you just go on living your life. And I'll go live mine.

[Door shuts]

Brooke: Oh, God, Deacon. If you only knew, I was carrying your baby. Oh, God!

Stephanie: Massimo, Massimo, he doesn't want -- he doesn't want to have anything to do with you.

Massimo: Because he doesn't know the truth.

Stephanie: And if he did, I think he'd want even less to do with you.

Massimo: Stephanie, I want to be part of his life.

Stephanie: It isn't possible.

Massimo: He's my flesh and blood. What do you mean it's not possible? Stephanie, look around you. I have an empire. Thousands of people work for me, depend on me. And it's all mine.

Stephanie: And what does this all have to do with Ridge?

Massimo: Look, I know this is hard for you to believe but I'm not getting any younger. Someday, someone is going to have to run all of this.

Stephanie: You can't be serious.

Massimo: I have been watching him, studying him. He is like me in many ways. But the problem is -- he has been wasting his life -- drawing pictures, designing dresses.

Stephanie: He's an artist. He's an artist, he's not a business man.

Massimo: Because that's the way Eric has trained him. Stephanie, I will train him differently. To wield power, influence -- to open markets and free nations through industry, commerce --

Stephanie: He doesn't want to do that, mass.

Massimo: Stephanie, you can't deny him this. He's an adult. For God's sake, he should make his own decisions. He can't make these kinds of decisions until he knows that I'm his father.

Rick: What do you want me to say, Amber? That I can forget it? That I can just wipe it out of my head? Amber, I have done that so many times. And still you lied to me. I don't want to fight about this, not here. I'm glad you brought me here though. But bringing me to our child's gravesite doesn't prove to me that you've changed. I'm sorry. Maybe we should go home.

Amber: Home? I don't have a home anymore. I don't even have a husband anymore. All I've got is this roommate. A roommate that I love so much. But he can't even stand to look at me, because he hates me. Well, I can't go on living like this, Rick. I need my husband back.

Stephanie: Ridge has a good life. It may not be the life that you want for him.

Massimo: He is just a cog in the wheel of a family business that someday will be carved up into countless pieces.

Stephanie: So what? So what?

Massimo: Look, I'm talking about giving my son enormous opportunities. To do good in the world, to have impact.

Stephanie: Mass, you're a businessman, you're not Mother Teresa.

Massimo: Look, I have opened up markets. I have brought peace and free trade to countries that were living under dictators. What has Ridge done? He's designed a few fancy dresses for some wealthy women.

Stephanie: Now that's demeaning. He's a talented artist with a wonderful reputation. And he happens to work for a company that my husband and I have spent all of our lives building.

Massimo: Stephanie, I'm a billionaire. I have ships on every ocean. My holdings are vast. The only thing that I lack is a son to inherit them. That's right, I intend to leave all of this to Ridge -- every dollar, every ship. And what do you think that means? That means that Ridge's life, as he knows it, will be over. You've got to deal with this. Can't you see, I'm freeing up our son. I'm giving him and his children, my God, my grandchildren an entire new existence. I'm giving them a life filled with excitement and endless potential. How can you deny him that? How can you deny me giving it to him?

Stephanie: Now, you and I have been close for a long time. If you value that relationship -- really value it; you'll keep quiet about this, Mass.

[Phone rings] I'm sorry. Hello? Oh, all right, you decided on the Cafe Russe, fine. No, no, I'm just a little preoccupied, sorry. I'll see you soon. That was my husband.

Massimo: Mm-hmm.

Stephanie: Planning his son's birthday party. His son, Ridge. I'm sorry, Mass. It is what it is.

Massimo: The Cafe Russe, huh? Maybe the time has come, my son. My son. My son.
