Deacon: Hold on, hold on. Wait a minute. Whoa, back up, back up. What do you say -- what do you mean this is good-bye?

Amber: I'm married to Rick, Deacon. Whatever I feel about you -- no, it doesn't even matter what I feel about you. I have a responsibility to my family. I belong with them. I'm sorry, Deacon. As much as I care about you, it's just -- there's no future for us.

Ridge: So, is that it?

Brooke: Well, we still have to pick out the designs for the campaign.

Ridge: Look, why don't we do that tomorrow? It's been a long day, and I'm sure you're exhausted.

Brooke: I am. I am exhausted. I've just been running back to the house, and checking on dad and dodging the press. God, Ridge, I'm so stressed out. You know, I can't even believe that this is happening, that my father is dying. He doesn't even want to talk about it. Every time we bring it up, he just changes the subject. I want to do something for him. I want to help, but I just don't know how.

Taylor: Ridge found Massimo's card, Stephanie.

Stephanie: The one he gave Stephen Logan?

Taylor: Yes. He found it in Brooke's office. Stephen must've dropped it there when he was picking broke up.

Stephanie: Well, there's no reason to panic about this. There's no name or address on it.

Taylor: No, there's just a weird little "m" with a squiggly thing around it and the phone number on it. What if Ridge calls it? Oh, God, i don't know how I got involved in this. If Ridge puts it together, Stephanie, he will never forgive me. I have to tell him the truth.

Stephanie: Oh, you don't have to tell him anything.

Taylor: He's going to figure it out. All he has to do is connect Massimo to Stephen Logan, and that'll be it. We have to tell him. We have to call this whole thing off.

Stephanie: No, Taylor. This is a minor glitch. But if it will make you feel better, I'll call Massimo, and he'll take care of it.

Taylor: And what if something goes wrong? See? See, this whole thing could go out of control.

Stephanie: It was Stephen's decision to tell his daughter that he was dying, not yours, and not mine.

Taylor: Would Stephen has done that if Massimo hadn't given him all that money? No, Stephen may have made his own decision, but we gave him the motive.

Massimo: Yes?

Stephen: Uh, Mr. Marone? It's Stephen Logan.

Massimo: What is it, Stephen?

Stephen: Um, I'm calling about that card you gave me.

Massimo: You found it?

Stephen: Um, not exactly. Um, Ridge Forrester has it. I don't know what happened. I must've dropped it in Brooke's office.

Massimo: How do you know this?

Stephen: Ridge asked Brooke about it. Then Brooke saw the same phone number here on a scratchpad and recognized it. Then I told her it was my hotel phone number. Look, I'm sorry.

Massimo: I told you, Stephen, I do not accept excuses.

Stephen: I mean, it was an accident.

Massimo: Your carelessness -- your carelessness has jeopardized this entire project.

Stephen: Well, you want to call it off?

Massimo: What I want to do is for you to listen to me. Tonight, Brooke is going to have a date with a young man. I have made all the arrangements. I have told this man everything there is to know about your daughter. And I have set it up so that they are going to have a meeting. Jacques will handle the rest. There will be no more mistakes, Stephen. [Phone disconnects]

Deacon: Look, you can't keep doing this to yourself. You can't keep living your life for the Forrester’s.

Amber: I made a commitment, Deacon.

Deacon: Break it.

Amber: What?

Deacon: Run away with me. Run away right now. Baby, this is your life. There's no dress rehearsal. You don't get a second chance. Look, we can take little D, and we'll go -- we'll go to Vegas. Or Seattle. We'll go to New York. We'll go anywhere you want to go. This is your decision. Just say the word.

Amber: No.

Deacon: Amber, I know this isn't gonna be easy for you. Look, I know that the Forrester’s are powerful people, but I'm willing to walk through hell for you.

Amber: Deacon! Deacon, I am not going to run away with you.

Deacon: I can't just let you walk out of my life.

Amber: Rick and Bridget need us.

Deacon: Forget them.

Amber: I can't, and neither can you. Bridget is your wife, and you love her!

Deacon: Yes, I love her, Amber. But it's not the same.

Amber: You and me, we can't run away from this anymore. It's too late. We've made our choices, and now we have to live with them.

Stephanie: Taylor, there's no reason for you to feel guilty. No one held a hot poker to Stephen Logan's eye and forced him to lie to his daughter.

Taylor: Massimo gave him a lot of money. That's called a payoff.

Stephanie: But you didn't have anything to do with that.

Taylor: Stephanie, Massimo is your friend, and you asked him for help.

Stephanie: Yes, and it worked, didn't it? She's in Paris, and she's not coming back.

Taylor: Stephen cannot keep Brooke there forever, okay? Now, Brooke is a lot of things, but she's not stupid. Eventually, she's gonna figure out that her father isn't sick, and then what do you think will happen? Look, I don't know how I got involved in this, but the only reason I did was because I was trying to protect my family. And now this whole thing could blow up in my face. If Ridge finds out that I had anything at all to do with this, I'll lose everything.

Ridge: I'm sorry, Logan. I wish I knew what to say.

Brooke: Well, there's really nothing to say. My father's dying, and I have to accept that.

Ridge: But you don't have to face this alone. I want you to keep me up to speed on what's going on, okay? You can try me here. If I'm not here, you can try me at home. [Brooke sighs]

Brooke: Oh, that reminds me. I ran into Claude this morning, and he wants you to call him.

Ridge: Oh, yeah. I think I still have his number. Hey, did you ever find out anything more about that card?

Brooke: What card?

Ridge: The one I found on the floor of your office.

Brooke: I didn't tell you? That's my dad's.

Ridge: Your dad's?

Brooke: Yeah, he had the same number written down on a pad. It's from his hotel. He left his glasses there.

Ridge: Really? I thought your dad stayed at the Beverley Inn.

Brooke: He did.

Ridge: Well, Logan, this card has a "m" on it. That's all. I mean, a phone number, no address.

Brooke: Maybe it's from the hotel bar.

Ridge: I don't know, Logan. This seems more like a personal card. It's gold embossed. It's not your typical business card.

Brooke: So what are you saying, my dad's lying?

Ridge: I'm just saying this card did not come from your father's hotel.

 [Phone rings]

Jacques: Hello?

Massimo: Jacques, this is monsieur Marone.

Jacques: I've been expecting your call.

Massimo: Are you ready?

Jacques: Oui.

Massimo: Good. I want Brooke Logan dealt with tonight.

Massimo: You know what to do.

Jacques: I'm looking forward to it. Brooke Logan has quite a reputation. [Massimo chuckles]

Massimo: So have you, Jacques. And I expect you to live up to it.

Jacques: The lady will be in very capable hands.

Massimo: The lady is very sophisticated, Jacques. Worldly, intelligent, and extremely intuitive.

Jacques: Don't worry. I will take her by surprise.

Massimo: You only have one opportunity. And if you fail --

Jacques: I will not. Trust me. When I am through with Brooke Logan -- how do you say? She won't know what hit her.

[Massimo sighs] phone rings]

Massimo: Hello?

Stephanie: Hello, moss, its Stephanie. If it's possible, I really need to see you.

Massimo: I'm at the Cafe Russe.

Stephanie: May I join you?

Massimo: Oh, my pleasure.

Stephanie: I'll be right there.

Brooke: I don't get it, Ridge. Why would my dad lie about a card? Unless it has to do with his medical condition.

Ridge: Now that you mention it, Taylor was pretty interested in it.

Brooke: Oh, my God, what if it has something to do with his illness? Ridge, I have to go. I'm gonna have to talk to him.

Ridge: Logan, hold on, hold on, hold on. Just wait a minute, wait a minute. We didn't say your dad's lying about this, okay?

Brooke: But you just said --

Ridge: I was just thinking out loud, that's all. Maybe you're right. Maybe it did come from the hotel bar, okay? I mean those single-letter names are popular right now.

Brooke: You think so?

Ridge: It's possible. Logan, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you.

Brooke: Oh, God, I'm just fried. It's not your fault. Look, I got to go home, Ridge.

Ridge: Okay, you do that. We can talk tomorrow, all right?

Brooke: All right.

Ridge: Get some rest.

Amber: We'll still see each other -- you know, at family parties and holidays. And Eric's birthday party.

Deacon: Your baby shower.

Amber: If this is gonna be too hard for you --

Deacon: Doesn't this hurt you?

Amber: Of course it does. But we both know what we have to do. I'm sorry.

Deacon: Yeah, I'm sorry, too.

Meanwhile what Amber and Deacon don't know is that Rick sees them kissing, and saying goodbye. He's thinking otherwise and leaves.

[Dinner music playing]

Stephanie: Moss?

Massimo: Ah, good to see you, Stephanie. Here, please, sit.

Stephanie: Thank you.

Massimo: Relax. I have taken the liberty of ordering you a martini.

Stephanie: Thank you. We have a problem. Ridge has the card that you gave Stephen.

Massimo: I know.

Stephanie: What are you gonna do about it?

Massimo: I just had it disconnected.

Stephanie: Well, is there any possible way that he could have that phone number traced?

Massimo: Why would he do that? It's just a business card.

Stephanie: Yes, but as you said the other day, it's a loose end, isn't it? And because of that, Taylor's really upset. She's just terrified that Ridge will somehow find that she's connected to all of this.

Massimo: Stephanie, there is no reason to be alarmed. I have the situation under control.

Amber: I have to go. Are you gonna be all right?

Deacon: Yeah. Yeah, I'm cool. Just go do what you got to do.

Amber: What about you? What are you gonna do?

Deacon: Does it matter?

Amber: Yes.

Deacon: It shouldn't. Not to you. Not anymore.

Amber: We're still gonna be friends, aren't we?

Deacon: Friends. Yeah. Yeah, we're still gonna be friends. Hell, we're in-laws, right? You better go. You don't want to keep Rick waiting.

Amber: Right.

Deacon: Amber --

Deacon: I love you.

Amber: And I love you, Deacon.

Ridge: This number is no longer in service? What the hell is going on?

Stephanie: Moss, do you -- do you really understand what's at stake here?

Massimo: Stephanie, what did I just say to you? I have the situation completely under control. Now, you tell your daughter-in-law that there's nothing to worry about. Her marriage is safe. Nothing has changed. I will take care of Brooke Logan. She is not going to come back to the states.

 [Knock at door]

Jacques: Brooke Logan?

Brooke: Yes?

Jacques: Bonsoir. These are for you.

Brooke: Oh, thank you.

Jacques: I'm sorry I'm late. Today, it was just one thing after another.

Brooke: Uh, do I know you? Did we have an appointment or something?

Jacques: I'm Jacques. I'm your date. Enchante.

Brooke: My date?

Jacques: Your father said you want to have dinner with me.

Brooke: Oh, you know my father?

Jacques: Of course. He did not call?

Brooke: No.

Jacques: Oh, this is most embarrassing.

Brooke: I don't understand.

Jacques: Ah, poor man. He must have forgotten to call. His disease, it's -- it's so sad.

Brooke: So, you're friends with my father?

Jacques: He has not mentioned me?

Brooke: No.

Jacques: Oh, of course. You just arrived in Paris, and he's been preoccupied.

Brooke: Well, he must be, because we were supposed to have dinner tonight.

Jacques: And he asked me to accompany you instead.

Brooke: Oh. Well, that's very nice. But I'm really tired. I think I'm gonna go home.

Jacques: Well, I'll drive you. And perhaps we can stop somewhere and have a glass of wine?

Brooke: No, that's all right. I'll take a taxi.

Jacques: A taxi?! No, no. Stephen would be furious with me. Please, allow me to take you home.

Brooke: All right. Let me just get my things.

Jacques (Thinking to himself): Oh, Brooke Logan. It is a crime to lie to such a beautiful woman. But I am not taking you home. No. I have something far more exciting in store for you. Ah, my belle, this will be a night you never forget.
