Deacon: Amber and Little D -- my family. I'm not giving up on you guys. I'm gonna get you back. It sounds to me like Stephanie wants to help. I just wonder what she's got in mind.

Brooke: It's voice-activated, but I'd push the record button just in case. Once he starts talking about Bridget, you want to make sure to get all that on tape.

Stephanie: You really think he's going to be honest about his feelings for her?

Brooke: Oh, I'm sure he'll be bragging about it before you two even get your first cup of coffee.

Stephanie: I'm gonna say it again -- if this backfires, he could cut you out of her life completely.

Brooke: Yes, but if it works, maybe we can finally get Bridget back, and she'll know the truth, that this is nothing but a ploy to get little Eric and Amber back. Come on, Stephanie. Please, just get him on tape. We'll play it for Bridget, and maybe she'll be able to come home tonight.

Stephanie: All right. I'll do my best. You know that.

Brooke: Thank you. Thank you.

Deacon: Hey.

[Bridget sniffles]

Deacon: Bridget -- are you okay?

Bridget: No, Deacon, I'm not.

[Dishes clanging]

Deacon: Okay. What is it?

Bridget: I just spent a lot of time on this dinner. I wanted it to be really nice.

Deacon: It was.

Bridget: Well, so then why did you spend the whole evening complaining about it?

Deacon: I -- I wasn't complaining. Was it the ball game? I figured we were having game hens. Okay. Look, if I knew that the game would have bugged you, I could have taped it or something.

Bridget: It was everything. The whole meal, it was awful.

Deacon: No, it wasn't. No. Come on, Bridget. It was good. Look, I'm not used to eating this way.

Bridget: Maybe I should've just made hamburgers.

Deacon: It's not the food, Bridget. The food was great. You're a great cook. Look, you gotta understand. Look, you and your family might eat like this all the time, all right? I'm not used to this. My mom used to come home from the strip club, and -- and she'd be too tired to cook. And so I'd get something out of the freezer, and I'd throw it in the microwave. And we used -- we used to sit on the couch and watch TV together while we ate. I guess watching TV just kind of reminds me of my mother. It kind of reminds me of home.

Bridget: I just wanted tonight to be special.

Deacon: Baby, I'm so sorry that I ruined our first fancy dinner together, and I did kind of like the pygmy chickens.

[Deacon clucks]

Bridget: You did?

Deacon: I did. I did. They were good. Listen, I noticed that we're out of coffee, so I was thinking maybe I'd run out and go get a pound of coffee. And we could have it with that French pudding that you made.

Bridget: You're going out?

Deacon: Yeah, just for a little bit. Are you gonna be okay?

Bridget: I guess so.

Deacon: I'll be back soon.

Taylor: What did you say?

Ridge: Taylor, it's all right. Catherine told me about the appointment. I know about the baby.

Taylor: What baby?

Ridge: "What baby?" Okay, I'll play along. This baby.

Taylor: No, no. Honey, I'm not pregnant.

Ridge: You're not?

Taylor: No. What in the world gave you that idea?

Ridge: You've just been so secretive about this appointment. You even said you're not gonna have as much time for the kids now. I just assumed you meant -- what did you mean?

Taylor: Well, I'm just going to be occupied with, um -- with some other things.

Ridge: What other things? Like what? What's going on? Taylor, are you all right?

Stephanie: If I can just get that bastard to admit he doesn't love her, maybe we can get Bridget away from him. Maybe she'll listen to reason. God, I hope so.

Deacon: Steph. So how's tricks?

Stephanie: Everything's wonderful. Thank you. Would you like some coffee?

Deacon: No. Somehow, I got the feeling I might not be staying that long.

Stephanie: Fine.

Deacon: All right, let's make this quick. I've got Bridget waiting for me at home.

Stephanie: Let me just say how appalled I am by the way you're treating this girl.

Deacon: Here it comes. I knew the lecture would come sooner or later.

Stephanie: How can you be so cavalier about this? I know you're not proud of your own behavior.

Deacon: No more proud than you are of yours.

Stephanie: I never intended to harm you.

Deacon: Stephanie, you destroyed my family.

Stephanie: The martyr role doesn't suit you. All that I asked, all that we asked was that you not see the baby until after the kids were married. No one intended to take that child from you.

Deacon: Oh, please. That is such -- that is such bull. What, are you forgetting everything your husband said to me? That lunatic tried -- he did. He ran me down out --

Stephanie: Let's not go there.

Deacon: No, let's not do that, okay? All right. You said something about Amber. I'm listening.

Stephanie: That's what you really want, isn't it, Amber and the baby?

Deacon: I think you know what I want.

Stephanie: But that you could have so easily married Bridget without caring about her, without loving her, just in order to use her to be close to Amber and the child --

Deacon: Steph, if there's something you want to say, could you just spit it out, please? Otherwise, save your breath, and that'll save us both some time.

Ridge: Taylor, if something's wrong, you've got to tell me.

Taylor: No. No!

Ridge: You're okay?

Taylor: Yes, I'm fine. I'm fine, and so are the kids. It's nothing like that.

Ridge: Then why did you go see a doctor?

Taylor: Dr. Nuvez.

Ridge: The psychiatrist?

Taylor: Yes. I -- I went to talk to him about a job.

Ridge: You want to go back to work?

Taylor: Well, I've just been considering it, you know? The girls will be in prekindergarten soon, and Thomas will be going back to school. And I'll just be sitting around here at the house, so, you know, I was thinking maybe I could just get back into, you know, doing part-time counseling or something and just ease back into it.

Ridge: I had no idea you even had an interest in going back to work.

Taylor: Well, honey, don't get me wrong. I love being a mom. I -- I love being with our children. It's just that they're getting older now and I'll have some spare time on my hands, so, you know, maybe I could do something on the side. And I wanted to talk to you about it and see how you felt. So what do you think?

Eric: Look, it's a good idea, but if it doesn't work --

Brooke: It has to work, Eric. Stephanie has to get Deacon on tape.

Eric: And what if Deacon catches on to what she's doing?

Brooke: Well, if it gets ugly, then she'll just get out of there.

Eric: It could get a lot more than ugly. Brooke, the last time we tried anything like this with Deacon, he went crazy. He lost control.

Brooke: Eric, don't worry. That's why she's meeting him at the insomnia. Look, she's not gonna get caught, okay?

[Phone ringing] Brooke Forrester.

Bridget: Hi, Mom. It's me.

Brooke: Oh, hi, Bridget. Honey, how are you?

Bridget: I'm okay.

Brooke: You know, your dad's here. Do you mind if I put you on the speaker?

Bridget: Sure, sure.

Eric: Sweetheart, hi.

Bridget: Hi ya, Dad.

Eric: Is everything okay?

Bridget: Yeah. I just -- you know, I wanted to say hi.

Brooke: How did the dinner turn out?

Bridget: It was fine.

Eric: "Fine"? It was just fine?

Bridget: The Cornish hens were good.

Brooke: But Deacon didn't really appreciate it, did he?

Bridget: No. No, no, but, you know, he's not really used to eating like that, so --

Brooke: Oh, honey, I'm sorry.

Bridget: That's okay. He apologized.

Brooke: Where is he now?

Bridget: He just went out for some coffee, but actually, he's gonna be back soon, so I should probably go.

Brooke: Are you sure you're all right?

Bridget: Yeah, Mom. I'm fine, really.

Eric: I'm glad you called, honey. You know, you -- you can call us any time.

Bridget: I know.

Brooke: We love you, Bridget.

Bridget: I love you, too. Bye.

Eric: God, I hate this. Listen to her. She's so down.

Brooke: She's lonely, Eric. She's married to a man who doesn't even love her.

Eric: Well, we're gonna go get her. As soon as Stephanie gets Deacon on tape, we're gonna go over there, and we're gonna get her, and we're gonna bring her home.

Brooke: Okay.

Deacon: Come on, Stephanie. What is it? You're never the one to beat around the bush. So tell me, what's the problem?

Stephanie: You're the problem, Deacon. You've placed me in a moral dilemma. You're forcing me to make a choice between two people that are very important in my life.

Deacon: No, no. You're not gonna do that. You're not gonna put the blame for that on me. I came to you people, and I begged you. I said, "please, don't force my hand."

Stephanie: Nobody forces you to do anything, and nobody ever forced you to marry Bridget.

Deacon: Well, it's too bad you can't say the same about Rick and Amber.

Stephanie: She made her own choice, her own decision. She's in love with Rick. I know you don't want to believe that.

Deacon: But you did nothing to dissuade her, did you? And now, somehow, I'm thinking that maybe you regret it.

Stephanie: You know, the only thing I regret is I thought you were capable of change.

Deacon: That hurts, Steph.

Stephanie: I can see now, you're not gonna do the right thing. You're not gonna stop until you get what you want, are you?

Deacon: And you're gonna help me get it?

Stephanie: I might.

Deacon: Why? I mean, come on. Come on, you support Amber and Rick's marriage?

Stephanie: Yes, I do. I love them. I want them to be happy. But I love Bridget. She's only 18 years old. She's a very naive little girl. The longer this goes on, the more destructive it's gonna be for her when it's over.

Deacon: That's true.

Stephanie: What does she mean to you, anyway?

Deacon: I think you know what she means to me.

Stephanie: I know what you mean to her. She's in love with you. I don't want to do anything that'll jeopardize her marriage to you if there's one chance in this world that you could make it work.

Deacon: Wait, whoa. Have you not been listening to what I said? I didn't marry Bridget to -- to "make it work." I mean, if I have to, I will. But make no mistake about it, Stephanie, there's no love between us. There never will be. I married Bridget for two very specific reasons. The first is that I wanted to put pressure on you people to give Amber back, and if that didn't work, well, I at least wanted to solidify a place in my son's life. You know, the truth is that I never wanted it to come to this, but it has. And if you people have any hope whatsoever of getting Bridget back, it's time to ante up, because you're not gonna get her back until Amber and Little D are living with me.

Ridge: Taylor, if you want to go back to work, you don't need my permission.

Taylor: I'm not asking for your permission. I'm asking for your opinion.

Ridge: Well, I hadn't really thought about it. I mean, you've been home with the kids for so long, and I just got kind of used to you being around.

Taylor: Oh, I'm still gonna be around. It's just part-time.

Ridge: You sound like you've already made up your mind.

Taylor: Does that upset you?

Ridge: No. I know you wouldn't even be considering this if you weren't absolutely sure, which is why I'm all for it.

Taylor: Really?

Ridge: Yeah. I mean, if this is something you really want to do, I'm -- I'm right there for you.

Taylor: Oh, thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Ridge: I like this. Any other ideas you want to run by me?

Taylor: Yeah. Actually, there is one other thing.

Ridge: And what's that?

Taylor: I might be going back to using my professional name.

Ridge: Taylor Hayes? Why?

Taylor: Because most of my patients and other doctors already know me by that name. Plus, it's a little more low-key. Forrester is very high-profile.

Ridge: Oh, I see. Well, I guess I'm glad you told me that so I can find the eminent doctor in the phone book.

Taylor: What, you need therapy?

Ridge: I don't really like to admit it. It's hard for me to admit, you know. But I'm an addict. I'm completely and totally addicted to my wife.

Taylor: Well, I am sorry. There is no cure for that. But I do have a long- term treatment plan I think you might like a whole lot better.

Ridge: I like it already.

Brooke: Where is she? Where is Stephanie? She should have called by now.

Eric: Brooke, she has to take her time. She can't risk Deacon getting suspicious. I mean, it's the only way this plan is gonna work.

Brooke: Yes, of course. And it is going to work. I mean, she's going to get Deacon on tape. Bridget will hear the truth, and then their marriage will be over.

Eric: Yeah, but a lot could still go wrong, and Deacon is unpredictable, and he's very dangerous. If he thinks something is going on here, she could be in very big trouble.

Stephanie: It's just -- it's just so easy for you to admit that you don't love Bridget and that you're using her.

Deacon: Sure, fine. Fine, I'll admit it, but -- but that doesn't mean that I don't care about her, Stephanie. You see, that's the thing that her parents don't understand. I'm not some heartless monster who enjoys playing with the emotions of some young girl. This is killing me as much as it is you people.

Stephanie: Then stop it.

Deacon: I would stop it. Then you help me stop it! You tell me how to get my son and Amber back. I'm ready to listen, so tell me.

Stephanie: How do I know you'd let Bridget go?

Deacon: Don't you worry about that.

Stephanie: Don't worry about that? You're not the most trustworthy guy in the world.

Deacon: Bridget is a pretty incredible girl, and she deserves a lot more than this. And she's gonna get more than this as soon as I get Amber and my son back. So please, tell me what it is that we can do.

Stephanie: I don't think there's anything I can do.

Deacon: Wait a minute. I thought you came here to help me get Amber back.

Stephanie: I came here to help Bridget. Then I realized that trying to make some sort of a deal with you is just not the way to go about it.

Deacon: What are you telling me, that you just called me down here for nothing, that you've wasted my time?

Stephanie: No. Look, we've gone round and round, and I don't think there's anything further to accomplish.

Deacon: What was that click? That came from your purse. What you got in your purse, Stephanie?
