[Brooke sighs]

Brooke: My poor baby. Oh, Stephanie, hi. Are those the projections?

Stephanie: Yeah, but we can go over it another time.

Brooke: No, no, no, no. Really, it's fine. Come on in.

Stephanie: Megan told me you went to see Bridget.

Brooke: Yes, she was making dinner for Deacon, and she needed some help.

Stephanie: Well, that's a good sign, isn't it? She's not cutting you completely out of her life.

Brooke: Well, I thought so, until I got over there. Deacon is treating her like a servant. It's disgusting.

Stephanie: You didn't say that to her, did you?

Brooke: I tried to, but every time I bring up his name, she gets really defensive.

Stephanie: Brooke, she's in love with him.

Brooke: Obviously. There's nothing anybody can do to change her mind.

Stephanie: Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

Brooke: You know, it's just so heartbreaking. She was so excited about making this dinner for him. You should have seen her. And you know he's not going to appreciate it. He could care less about her. And the worst thing is -- he doesn't even have any decency to hide it. He told me, point blank, that if Amber and Little Eric went back to him, he would drop Bridget in a heartbeat. You know what that would do to her, Stephanie? That would kill her.

Stephanie: Don't pin your hopes on Amber leaving Rick.

Brooke: Well, you know, if you have any great ideas, please tell me. Because I've been sitting here all evening wracking my brain, and I can't come up with a thing.

Stephanie: I don't. I mean, I -- I don't know how you're going to get Bridget out of this marriage.

Brooke: Deacon's holding all the cards. She has no idea what's going on. He has her completely snowed.

Stephanie: You know, she's a smart girl. You haven't given her credit for that. I mean, there is a chance she might figure this all out.

Bridget: Hi, honey.

Deacon: Hey.

Bridget: Dinner's ready.

Deacon: Yeah, give me just a second there. I want to check this.

Bridget: What -- what are you doing?

Deacon: I'm just looking for the game.

Bridget: Can you do that later? I don't want your food to get cold.

Deacon: Okay, good, got it. Beautiful.

TV announcer: We're in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Deacon: What are we having?

Bridget: Well, we're starting with a spinach salad and then some green bean almondine and Cornish game hens.

Deacon: I hope you made a couple more than just those two. Those things are small enough -- they wouldn't even feed Little D.

Bridget: Um, I just made the two.

Deacon: That's cool. Don't worry about it. We'll just get a pizza later.

Catherine: Oh, Ridge, you're home early.

Ridge: Hey, Catherine. Are the kids still up?

Catherine: I just put them down, but I'm sure that Thomas is still awake because you know he never falls asleep until you and Taylor give him a kiss good night.

Ridge: I noticed Taylor's car wasn't here.

Catherine: She went out a little while ago.

Ridge: Really? Where'd she go?

Catherine: I can't say.

Ridge: You can't say? What do you mean you can't say? Catherine, what's going on here?

Catherine: Look, I promised her I wouldn't say anything.

Ridge: Taylor doesn't want me to know where she is?

Catherine: She wasn't even going to tell me. It just sort of slipped out.

Ridge: Oh, come on, this can't be that big a deal. Just tell me. Come on, tell me!

Catherine: She said something about a doctor's appointment.

Ridge: Doctor? She wasn't feeling well?

Catherine: No, she seemed fine.

Ridge: Why would she go to a doctor then?

Catherine: I don't know. She was being kind of mysterious about it.

Ridge: Really? Was it Dr. Paxson?

Catherine: I don't think so.

Ridge: Dr. Wilson?

Catherine: Maybe, why?

Ridge: Yeah, I think I might know what's going on here. At least, I hope I do.

Catherine: What?

Ridge: Taylor's not sick. She's pregnant.

Catherine: So you think Taylor's pregnant?

Ridge: Look, I know it's a bit of a leap, but it makes perfect sense, doesn't it? If you put all the pieces together -- the mysterious doctor's appointment, the way she's been acting lately.

Catherine: She has been hungry a lot. And she was really excited when she left the house today.

Ridge: I'll bet she was. I'll bet she was. Well, so am I. Another baby. This is incredible!

Catherine: But Ridge, I mean, even if she did go see Dr. Wilson, it could have been just for a regular checkup.

Ridge: Well then, why keep it such a secret? Why make it such a mystery?

Catherine: You know, maybe you're right. I mean, if she was pregnant, she wouldn't say anything until she was really sure.

Ridge: Unless she wanted to just make it a surprise.

Catherine: That's some surprise.

Ridge: Well, she doesn't really have to make it a surprise. The kids are both older now. Our life here has finally gotten back to normal. And the timing is perfect.

Catherine: And Thomas would love to have a little brother.

Ridge: Wouldn't that be great? Wouldn't that be great?

Brooke: I'd give anything for Bridget to come to her senses. I just don't think Deacon's going to let that happen.

Stephanie: Well, he can't keep this charade up forever. Can he?

Brooke: Well, if Amber and Little Eric stay with Rick, that's exactly what he intends to do. Because it's the only way he can stay close to them.

Stephanie: He's not in love with Bridget. And she's a teenager on top of it. Eventually, he's going to get bored, and then he'll become frustrated. And when that happens, he'll start changing his behavior toward her. And then she'll see through him.

Brooke: Eventually, the truth will come out. But the longer it takes, the harder it's going to be for Bridget when it finally is over. Deacon could care less about that. He has her wrapped so tightly around his finger, he can do and say anything he wants.

Stephanie: Well, he's not abusing her?

Brooke: No, no. He treats her like a Princess. But behind her back, it's a different story. The way he talks about her, Stephanie, it's totally degrading. He could care less about her feelings. He doesn't even feel guilty about what he's doing to her. Bridget's just a means to an end for him. Gosh, if I could just get her to see that side of him. She would leave him. I know she would. I just got to get her to hear the way he talks about her, the way he really feels about her.

[TV announcer speaking]

Bridget: Deacon?

Deacon: Hmm?

Bridget: What are you doing?

Deacon: I'm just watching the game.

Bridget: Sweetie, this is our first real dinner as a couple. You know, I thought we could eat together.

Deacon: I'm sorry, yeah. Come here. Sit here.

Bridget: I just thought you might be more comfortable at the table. Honey, please come sit over here.

Deacon: Okay, but I'm going to leave the game on.

Bridget: Okay.

Deacon: Here you go, babe. Happy?

Bridget: Yeah, thanks.

Deacon: Bridget, I don't know why you went to all this trouble anyway. You know, we could've just ordered in for something.

Bridget: Well, I wanted to do something special for you. Hey, Rick even gave me a bottle of champagne from his wedding reception. I mean, I'm not going to have any, but I thought you might like it.

Deacon: No, that's cool. I'm just gonna get a beer in a few minutes.

Bridget: Well, why don't I get it for you?

Deacon: No, no, that's all right. That's all right. I'll get it in just a minute.

Bridget: Hey, wait till you see what I made for dessert. Chocolate crème brulè.

Deacon: Huh?

Bridget: Pudding. It's good. You'll like it.

Deacon: As long as it doesn't have any nuts in it. God, I hate nuts.

Bridget: No nuts.

Deacon: That's cool.

Bridget: I'll try to remember that.

Deacon: Oh, oh, good, baby! That's the one! Grand slam -- four bagger! Did you see that?! Look at that!

Brooke: That's it. That's the answer.

Stephanie: What?

Brooke: I know how to get Bridget away from Deacon. She has to find out his true feelings for her.

Stephanie: Well, obviously.

Brooke: But she has to hear it.

Stephanie: What have you got in mind?

Brooke: If you can get Deacon to talk about the marriage on tape and then play it for Bridget, she'll realize she's been duped.

Stephanie: If I can get him on tape?

Brooke: Well, if I try to draw it out of him, he'll become suspicious.

Stephanie: Oh, and he wouldn't be suspicious of me?

Brooke: He's opened up to you before.

Stephanie: Brooke, the last time anybody tried to get him on tape. Do you remember that? It was an absolute disaster.

Brooke: All right, fine. If you won't help, I'll just do it myself.

Stephanie: I didn't say I wouldn't help. I'm just trying to make you aware of the consequences. You really want to give him another reason to resent us even more?

Brooke: Well, what's the alternative, Stephanie? You don't want to make him angry. Well, I don't want to give him my daughter. I'm not just going to sit by and watch him turn Bridget's life upside down. He has to be stopped! And this -- this may be the only answer.

Deacon: Sweet, double play. These guys are on fire.

Bridget: Deacon, could you please sit down? Here, look -- have some more green beans.

Deacon: With the nuts? No, thanks.

Bridget: Well, if you're still hungry, you can have some of my hen.

Deacon: No, honey, it's cool. I'll just get something later.

Bridget: Okay, okay, if you're not going to eat anymore, how 'bout we just talk?

Deacon: You want to talk?

Bridget: Yeah, yeah, tell me about your day. That's what my family does at dinner.

Deacon: You don't want to know about my day.

Bridget: Yeah, no, I do. I do.

Deacon: Okay, my day sucked.

Bridget: Oh, I'm sorry. Did something happen at work?

Deacon: That jerk of an owner -- he comes in and he starts yelling about all the time I've taken off. You know, here I am in freaking traction, and the guy's threatening to fire me. Like there's all these other guys in L.A. Just dying to take over that dump who could run it as well as I could. I swear to God, the next time that guy comes in and starts busting my chops, I'm just going to quit. You know? What the hell do I need this job for anyway, right?

Bridget: Well, wouldn't you get bored? I mean, you're so ambitious.

Deacon: Well, yeah, that's true. I mean, I've had to be, but that's all behind me now. I got you now, sugar. That's all I need.

Ridge: I can't believe I didn't see this coming. I mean, all the signs were there.

Catherine: You know, I think you could be right.

Ridge: What else could it be really? I think she's just waiting for the right time to spring it on me. That's what I think.

Catherine: Oh, I hope you don't tell her that I ruined the surprise.

Ridge: No, what -- steal her thunder? Are you kidding? No way. Look, knowing Taylor, she's going to want to make a big production out of this. She's probably got a table at Cafe Russe reserved at this very moment.

Catherine: Oh, Ridge, I am so excited for you. I mean, another baby? That is such wonderful news.

Ridge: It's great.

Taylor: Hi, honey, sorry I'm late.

Ridge: Hey, I was getting worried about you. Catherine didn't seem to know where you were.

Taylor: Actually, I have to talk to you about that. There's something we have to discuss.

Bridget: Hey, did you want me to bring out the pudding?

Deacon: No, I think I'm going to -- I think I'm going to pass, baby. I just want to catch the rest of the game.

Bridget: You're not going to have any salad?

Deacon: Oh, come on, bridge, you know I don't like rabbit food. I don't even like lettuce on my burger.

Bridget: Right, I forgot.

Deacon: Hey, this -- this looks really nice. I mean, it looks -- it looks really good.

Bridget: Thanks.

Deacon: You did a good job. Thank you.

Ridge: So what do you have to tell me?

Taylor: Maybe you better sit down.

Ridge: No, no, I'm fine. I'm fine.

Taylor: Well, I know this is going to come as a surprise to you, but it's something I've been thinking about for a little while. And I was just reluctant to even mention it until I was absolutely sure.

Ridge: Hmm. And now you are?

Taylor: Yes, and I really think we should sit down and discuss it, because it is important and it's something that will affect you and the children.

Ridge: Why? Because they're going to have to share more of their time with you now?

Taylor: That's right.

Ridge: And it's going to really shake a lot of things up around here?

Taylor: You already know what it is?

Ridge: Yeah, I do. And I couldn't be happier.

Taylor: You are?

Ridge: Yes, I am, and I know the kids will be, too. I just can't believe it. You're pregnant. We're gonna have another baby.

Brooke: Stephanie, I know this is dangerous. And if Deacon catches you with this recorder, there's no telling what he might do.

Stephanie: Yes, he's a violent man.

Brooke: Now, if you're nervous about this at all, I don't want you to do it. He'll pick up on that.

Stephanie: I'm not worried about myself. He wouldn't lay a finger on me. I'm worried about your daughter. If this thing backfires, you realize what can happen? It'll make her position really -- well, very uncomfortable. And stop and think about this. He's a mean bastard. He could take you right out of her life completely, if he wanted to.

Brooke: Stephanie, I'm going through with this. Now, if you're not going to tape him, I'll do it myself. But one way or the another, Bridget is going to know how he really feels about her.

Stephanie: All right, I'll do it. I'll talk to him.

Brooke: When?

Stephanie: Well, I'll call him now.

[Phone rings]

Deacon: Hey, Bridget?! Honey, could you get the phone?

Deacon: Hello?

Stephanie: Deacon, this is Stephanie.

Deacon: If you're looking for Bridget, she's not here.

Stephanie: No, actually, I wanted to talk to you.

Deacon: Well, geez, Steph, let me guess. You want to ream me out like everybody else?

Stephanie: I'm not the least bit interested in reaming you out. I wanted to see if you would have a cup of coffee with me.

Deacon: Well, as tempting an offer as that is, I'm watching the baseball game right now.

Stephanie: Oh, baseball? Oh, I'm sure that's much more interesting to you than your future with Amber and the baby. Bye-bye.

Deacon: All right. All right. I'm listening.

Stephanie: I'm just leaving to go home, and I'm going to stop by the Insomnia for a few minutes to have a cup of coffee. If you'd like to join me, I'd be happy to see you. Bye.

Deacon: Stephanie, Stephanie, what are you up to?

Stephanie: Oh, don't worry. He'll show up. Wild horses couldn't keep him away.

Brooke: Thank you, Stephanie.

Stephanie: Don't count on this. It could all blow up in our face.

Brooke: I know. I know it's a gamble. But it if works, if you can get him to be honest about his feelings for Bridget and admit that he's truly in love with Amber, then we can end this marriage. We can end it tonight.
