Rachel: You do not have to look so nervous.
Amanda: Well, you said you had something to tell us.
Ada: We have waited long enough. Come on, give.
Rachel: All right, I'm going to be leaving Cory Publishing.
Iris: Rachel, what exactly are you saying?
Rachel: I have given this an awful lot of thought. It is best for me.
Evan: Rachel, everything is under control there. If you need some time off--
Rachel: I do, that is why I am taking a leave of absence. Please do not look so glum; it is not bad news. And please try and understand.
Iris: I do understand.
Amanda: Mom, you are Cory Publishing.
Rachel: No, I'm not. Your father was. I cannot take his place. I do not even want to. I have got to stop trying.
Sam: Rachel, so what are you going to do?
Rachel: Start over from the beginning.
Mitch: And what does that mean?
Rachel: I need a fresh start. I'm thinking of moving.
Ada: Oh, Rachel, this is your home.
Rachel: I know that, but maybe it should not be just now.
Ronnie: Merry Christmas, Jamie.
Jamie: Well, merry Christmas to you, too, Ronnie.
Ronnie: Did you volunteer to work today?
Jamie: Yeah, yeah, I do not mind.
Ronnie: I'm sure your family did.
Jamie: Well, I spent a good part of the day with them.
Ronnie: I'm sure your house is filled to the gill with relatives and friends.
Jamie: Yeah, that is true. It is. But to be honest with you, I did not really feel like a big family day today. You know.
Jamie: What is it?
Ronnie: Looks like someone else had the same feeling.
Vicky: Hi. Ho-ho-ho.
Jamie: I said you could have Steven for the whole day.
Vicky: I know, but he only has one first Christmas. I thought he should spend it with both parents.
Cass: It was 1962 and you were not even born yet.
Frankie: I was too.
Cass: Well, barely, so what do you know about it? It is one of the only decent Christmas shows ever made.
Frankie: What are you talking about? What about "Miracle on 34th Street"? What about "it's a wonderful life"?
Cass: Ok, well that is a different echelon. Shut up a minute. We're talking animation and we're talking puppetry.
Frankie: Yeah, but the puppets are so fake looking.
Cass: Puppets are supposed to look fake.
Frankie: Oh, yeah. I forgot.
Cass: So tell me, did Santa Claus bring you what you wanted?
Frankie: I do not know.
Cass: You were?
Frankie: I was forced to spend the night--
Cass: Oh my gosh.
Frankie: ...Sleeping on a restaurant bunkette.
Cass: Well, at least I got what I wanted.
Frankie: Did you? And what was that?
Cass: "And what was that," she asks. Christmas with you, you Dufus.
Frankie: I had a wonderful night, too, Cass.
Cass: Once you loosened up and got into the spirit of things?
Frankie: Do you mean like--like this?
Cass: That is what I mean.
Frankie: So, what do we do now?
Cass: I think we should celebrate.
Frankie: More buche noel and champagne?
Cass: I was not thinking of food. Frankie, I want to make love with you.
Frankie: You do not play fair, Winthrop.
Cass: What did I do, Frame?
Frankie: You are trying to take advantage of me while my defenses are down.
Cass: What better time to take advantage of you?
Frankie: Are we on a deadline or something? What is the rush?
Cass: Why are you so difficult? Huh?
Frankie: I do not know how you put up with me.
Cass: It is a mystery to me, too.
Frankie: This time I'm going to think with my head.
Cass: What is it, Frankie? Things have gotten in the way in the past, but that is over now.
Frankie: Oh, things?
Cass: Yes, things.
Frankie: Inanimate objects are not our problem, Winthrop. Bleached blondes with titles and accents are.
Cass: Great. She is slamming me with semantics. I thought we settled this last night.
Frankie: I need to know that when we go upstairs and it is just the two of us, it is just the two of us.
Cass: I am almost 100% sure that Cecile is not asleep in my bed naked right now. It was a joke, Frankie. Come on, lighten up.
Frankie: I thought you said you were afraid of falling in love again.
Cass: I was not in love with Cecile this year.
Frankie: And Caroline?
Cass: I never loved Caroline.
Frankie: And me?
Cass: I want to be with you.
Frankie: With me?
Frankie: It is kind of scary, Cass.
Cass: Tell me about it. Frankie, I think you know this. I'm falling for you.
Frankie: I'm falling for you, too, and I know you know it.
Cass: Then donít you think we should stop fighting it?
Frankie: Yeah. This could never happen if I did not trust you. You know that, donít you?
Cass: You trust me?
Frankie: Yeah, why shouldnít I?
Cass: I donít know.
Frankie: Cecile came back into your life just as you and I were getting together, and you did not hop back into bed with her. You waited for me.
Cass: I, uh--
Frankie: Lucky, lucky me.
Jamie: I cannot tell you how much this means to me.
Vicky: I thought it was important for Steven.
Jamie: He is just a baby, but I know he can feel what is going on.
Vicky: Yeah, you're right.
Jamie: And I do not want that for him.
Vicky: Neither do I. I think it is up to us to make sure that he does not have to go through it again.
Jamie: Yeah. You know, it used to be so easy for me to criticize my parents. Because of course, I had all the answers. Now I realize how really hard it is to do what is right.
Vicky: Jamie, I think we should remember why we came together in the first place.
Jamie: Can I say something?
Jamie: We have said a lot of terrible things to each other over the past couple of months, but I did love you.
Vicky: I did love you, too. I did a lot of stupid things because of it.
Jamie: I was not exactly a very forgiving man myself.
Vicky: Jamie, I hope you know that when we first got together, all I wanted to do is just be with you and make you happy. I'm sorry I did just the opposite.
Jamie: You gave me a very beautiful son.
Vicky: I want him to have the best of both of us.
Jamie: I have been doing a lot of thinking about our situation.
Vicky: So have I.
Jamie: I was terrified when you left town with Steven.
Vicky: I know.
Jamie: I was going to have Stacey notify you, though. But since you are here, I think we should talk seriously about the custody arrangement.
Amanda: Where are you going to go?
Rachel: I do not know.
Ada: Some time away from the office and this house would be the best good thing in the world for you.
Iris: No, I believe you have made the right decision. The pace at Cory is far too fast.
Rachel: Donít get too excited, Iris. It is only temporary.
Iris: Of course.
Rachel: I need a change, and I know the company will be in good hands.
Amanda: Whose hands?
Rachel: Iris. She is best qualified to take over as acting C.E.O. It is what your father would have wanted.
Iris: Thank you.
Amanda: Mom, how can you do this?
Evan: Rachel, if Iris takes over, who will run "Sophisticate"?
Iris: I can do both.
Rachel: No, you canít.
Iris: Yes, I can.
Evan: I think Amanda should.
Iris: Donít be silly. She was against this project from the beginning.
Evan: She has handled [Indistinct] Associates, and she has practically run "Brava" since Mac died.
Felicia: I think maybe we should leave so they can all talk alone.
Mitch: No, we should stay just another minute.
Rachel: I think that is a good idea, Evan.
Iris: I donít.
Rachel: Iris, you cannot do it all, no matter how much want to. You want to run Cory Enterprises and see your magazine take off, then you've got to make some sacrifices.
Evan: And Amanda will have plenty of support.
Rachel: We have to get this ratified by the board.
Iris: Of course. But I do not want Lucas's position undermined.
Amanda: I cannot handle any of this right now. I have to talk to Sam--
Rachel: Amanda, please try and understand.
Amanda: I have to talk to my husband.
Ada: Well, I think this calls for a little champagne.
Rachel: Wonderful idea, but you'll have to excuse me. I want to talk to Jamie.
Ada: Ok, sweetie.
Rachel: Mitch, I have to call Jamie. I do not want to him to hear about this secondhand.
Mitch: You're doing this because of me, aren't you? Aren't you?
Rachel: Mitch, this is not the time.
Mitch: Why not? I think it is.
Rachel: Why do you think my leaving Cory Enterprises has anything to do with you?
Mitch: It is not about your job that I'm concerned. You said that you're moving.
Rachel: I'm not running away.
Mitch: You're not?
Rachel: Meaning what?
Mitch: I think that you're moving away from me because you are afraid of what you feel for me.
Rachel: Mitch, your wife is in the other room, please--
Mitch: Look, I'm sorry. I'm sorry if somehow that you're starting to be afraid of what you're feeling, but I do not mean to drive you away.
Rachel: You are not.
Mitch: Look, I will stay away. If you need time to sort things out, I will stay away.
Rachel: I have become too dependent on you. Before you it was Mac. I have to do this for me. I have to stop letting life live me. I have to take some control.
Mitch: And I happen to care about you.
Felicia: Rachel, we have to go home. Cass is coming over to our place later.
Rachel: Thank you so much for coming today.
Felicia: I'd like to talk to Rachel alone. Are you sure about this?
Rachel: Yes, I'm very sure.
Felicia: I thought Cory Enterprises meant so much to you.
Rachel: I thought it did, too. I think it was just an attempt on my part to keep Mac alive.
Felicia: Are you sure this is the right time to make this kind of change?
Rachel: You and I both know it is.
Iris: That little bump on the head has made Rachel positively rational.
Evan: Careful, Iris, you're cackling.
Iris: Come on, Evan, you know she is doing the right thing. I could have predicted this months ago. I saw Rachel cracking before anyone else did.
Evan: She knows exactly what she's doing, Iris.
Iris: However, we could have done without your helpful suggestion that that child run my magazine.
Evan: We both know that Amanda can handle "Sophisticate."
Iris: And who is going to handle Amanda?
Evan: I'm sure you will.
Iris: I intend to watch her like a hawk--with your help, of course.
Evan: You can count me out.
Iris: Oh, no I cannot. I know how easily you can be persuaded.
Evan: Times have changed, Iris.
Iris: But your feelings have not.
Evan: You know, I think I'm going to go find Ada and help her open up that bottle of champagne.
Iris: I know your weaknesses... intimately.
Evan: Iris, what could you possibly offer me besides money? I have everything. I have all that I need.
Iris: But no one to share it with.
Evan: Not yet.
Iris: So why donít you help me. Let me help you in your quest for love. It seems to me the only thing standing between you and Amanda is Sam. And after spending endless hours alone with her, I'm sure he will just be just a distant memory. What do you say?
Felicia: I'm going home. Are you coming with me?
Mitch: I'm going to take a walk.
Amanda: We never got to finish our conversation.
Sam: What do you want to talk about now?
Amanda: I do not need to work at "Sophisticate." Look, with Mom gone and Iris in charge, I really do not even want to be there.
Sam: Are you sure?
Amanda: I will give it up if it means I can get you back. We can move back to the loft. If Mom is really moving out of here, there is no reason for us to stay.
Amanda: What do you mean, no? Sam, I want you home with me. If quitting my job is the only way to do it, then I will do it.
Sam: That is not the answer.
Amanda: What is the answer?
Sam: I do not think I should have to tell you that one.
Amanda: Sam, if I'm at home with you, then Evan is not even going to be an issue.
Sam: How can you say that? You would be giving up that thing that makes you happy, and you'd still be sitting at home thinking about him. That doesn't sound like wedded bliss to me.
Amanda: You're not even listening to me.
Sam: Amanda, I am listening to you. I do not think you're listening to yourself.
Amanda: I do not know what it is that you want.
Sam: I will tell you what I do not want. I do not want a wife who sacrificed her career to salvage a marriage.
Amanda: Donít you understand? That is what is most important to me.
Sam: Amanda, running away from Evan does not mean he is out of your life.
Amanda: How can I get you to believe me?
Sam: You cannot--until I know for sure that the only thing and the only person you want is me. And when that happens, you can go to work for 12 hours a day with Evan and then leave him at the office.
Amanda: That is what I'm doing now.
Sam: No, you donít. You think about him all the time. And I will not have him between us.
Caroline: Hello? Evan told me you would be in here.
Sam: Oh, he would.
Caroline: Merry Christmas.
Sam: Thanks, Caroline.
Caroline: I know it is a holiday, but I really do need to speak to you, Sam.
Amanda: Caroline, canít this wait just a little longer?
Sam: Is something wrong?
Caroline: Hardly. The week before Christmas I sold 7 of your paintings.
Sam: You're kidding.
Caroline: It bodes well for the new show, donít you think?
Amanda: Oh, that is wonderful.
Caroline: 1990 is the beginning of a new life for you, Sam. I'm sure of it.
Frankie: Sorry I made you sweat before.
Cass: You always make me sweat.
Frankie: I want to be with you, too.
Cass: That is good news.
Frankie: So, it is a little cold down here. What do you say to a nice, hot shower?
Cass: That is a great idea.
Cass: Why donít you go get that and I will answer this.
Frankie: I'll wait. It's no fun alone.
Felicia: Hi, honey. Merry Christmas.
Cass: Felicia, merry Christmas.
Felicia: Listen, I need you to come over here right now.
Cass: That might be a little difficult just at the moment.
Felicia: Cass, I hate to ask this of you, but I really need you. I have nobody else to talk to.
Cass: You do not sound too good.
Felicia: I'm not.
Cass: I will be right there. Just give me a few minutes.
Felicia: Ok. Thanks, I owe you one.
Cass: You forget that. I will see you soon. You caught the gist of that?
Frankie: Yeah, is she all right?
Cass: I do not think so. I'm sorry. Do you mind if I go over there for just a minute.
Frankie: Of course I do not mind. Go, go.
Cass: Are you sure?
Frankie: Of course, I'm sure. Are you a little nervous?
Cass: Me, nervous? I never heard of the word.
Frankie: You do not have to worry about anything. I do not expect a marriage proposal by nightfall.
Cass: Well, that is good. That's great--a relief.
Frankie: So get out of here before I attack you.
Cass: Yes, I'm going to get out of here before you attack me.
Frankie: I have not wanted to get close to somebody in a very long time.
Cass: I will be back soon, ok?
Frankie: Ok. Hurry up. Bye.
Vicky: What are you going to do?
Jamie: We have to talk.
Vicky: Jamie, I will not screw up again. I swear it.
Jamie: When we went to court, Vicky, I wanted to hurt you.
Vicky: When I went to Lassiter, I wanted to hurt you.
Jamie: Steven got the brunt end both times, and I will not let that happen again.
Vicky: No, I do not want it to happen either.
Jamie: He is just starting his life, and he is going to have so many important times ahead of him. Holidays and graduations and girls.
Vicky: I know.
Jamie: And I think he should have both of us with him for those times.
Vicky: What are you talking about?
Jamie: I do not want his custody to be used as a punishment anymore. I think we should share him equally. Starting right now.
Vicky: Do you mean that--
Jamie: I want him to continue to live with me at my mother's house, because that is what he knows now, but I want us to share equally all the important decisions about his life.
Vicky: Do you mean a full joint custody, Jamie?
Jamie: Yeah, I guess I do.
Vicky: [Laughing] I do not believe this!
Jamie: Do we have a deal?
Vicky: Yes, we have a deal. Of course we have a deal.
Vicky: This is the best Christmas Ever in the whole wide world.
Jamie: I'm glad. I'm really glad.
Vicky: I do not know what to say.
Jamie: You have said it. Now let's both do right by Steven.
Vicky: Ok, we will.
Jamie: Listen, I have to finish my rounds.
Jamie: Thank you for bringing him.
Vicky: Steven, honey, you give your daddy the biggest Christmas kiss in the whole wide world. Give a kiss. Kisses, kisses, mwah!
Jamie: I love you. I hope he can learn half as much from us as we have learned from him.
Vicky: Oh, he will. We will make sure of it, ok? Ok?
Cass: Have the two of you talked about it?
Felicia: Mitch denies that anything is even happening. But all you have to do is just look at his face, and you know that he is falling for Rachel all over again.
Cass: No, that cannot be the case, honey.
Felicia: It is the case. He is completely infatuated with her. You want to know the worst part of it all? I cannot even hate her--and I want to. But I know how much she has been through since Mac died.
Cass: You do not know what to do, do you?
Felicia: I would like to stab them both in the chest, that is what I would like to do.
Cass: I know, I know you would.
Felicia: Mitch has been so damn secretive about all of this with me. He actually believes that he can take care of Rachel and that I'm just going to stand by and wait. Well, I canít. I tried. I just canít.
Cass: Why didnít you tell me sooner how far all of this had gone?
Felicia: I donít know. I just thought it would go away, I guess. You know that old saying? "Forget about the problem, and it will not be there in the morning."
Cass: Oh, yeah, I remember that one. I almost used it myself just now.
Felicia: Oh God, I forgot. How did it go with Frankie last night? Everything work out?
Cass: Last night was perfect.
Felicia: So then what is the problem?
Cass: I have really done it this time. She is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time, Felicia.
Felicia: I know that.
Cass: But I have blown it already.
Singer: Merry Christmas, baby you sure did treat me nice
Merry Christmas, baby you sure did treat me nice
I feel just like I'm live livin' in Paradise now listen now you see
Caroline: Quite the little Christmas bunny, aren't we now?
Singer: I got music on the radio
[Turns off radio]
Frankie: I'll have to make sure that door is locked in the future.
Caroline: It was. I used my key.
Frankie: Then I'll have to make sure the locks are changed.
[Sarcastic] Merry Christmas, Caroline.
Frankie: I'm expecting Cass back in a few minutes, so...
Caroline: You know what? I always thought that men's clothes suited you better, Frank.
Frankie: I think you get the idea here, Caroline. So why donít you spread your Christmas cheer elsewhere. [In Australian accent] Say, down under? I hear it is summer down there.
Caroline: You know, I never really gave you credit for being so understanding after everything that has happened.
Frankie: What are you talking about?
Caroline: You donít know, do you?
Frankie: About what?
Caroline: Cass has been a very bad boy this year. Hasn't he told you?
Ada: Well, that was quite a little shock you gave us.
Rachel: I know. I wanted to wait, but it is so difficult getting this whole group together in one place at one time. I thought I would just go for it.
Ada: It is a good idea.
Rachel: I'm glad you think so.
Ada: Iris is delighted.
Rachel: I bet she is.
Ada: I'm surprised you wanted her to take over Cory Enterprises.
Iris: She knows it, she wants it.
Rachel: You have always fought so hard to keep her from taking it over.
Rachel: I cannot go on fighting everybody's battles. I do not even want to. I just need a fresh start.
Ada: Are you sure you want to give up everything all at once?
Rachel: What are you talking about?
Ada: You could leave the office, you know, and stay here for now.
Rachel: I canít. I will be fine. Or I will fall flat on my face, but either way I have got to try.
Ada: I know you do.
Rachel: Who is this?
Rachel: What is this?
Ada: What? Oh, it must have fallen off one of the presents.
Rachel: "Looking for something hard to find? Anything is possible at the odyssey, the finest in art and collectibles. Anything your heart desires." Huh.
Rachel: Hi. Did you forget something?
Mitch: No. No, but I think you have.
Rachel: Come on in. It is freezing.
Mitch: I'm doing some thinking. You told me that you thought you were being followed.
Rachel: Yes, I thought so.
Mitch: Well, you were involved in a hit-and-run accident, some stranger picks you up, takes you to the hospital, leaves you there, and vanishes without a trace.
Rachel: What are you getting at?
Mitch: I do not understand. I can not understand this idea that you want to be alone now.
Rachel: I'm not in danger.
Mitch: You donít know that.
Rachel: I have to do this, Mitch. I was hoping you would understand.
Mitch: I was hoping you would understand. Do you know what it is like? Do you remember what it is like to be alone?
Rachel: Frankly, no. It has been too long. I cannot even remember what it feels like to fend for myself. That is why I want to do this.
Mitch: But why are you doing it? What are you trying to prove?
Rachel: I am not trying to prove anything. I hoped that you guys would understand that I need to do this. I'm not trying to hurt anyone. I'm just trying to get on with my life.
Mitch: Yeah, without your family or friends.
Rachel: I'm not doing it for that. Boy, you know you guys are a tough group.
Mitch: I just donít want to see anything happen to you.
Rachel: Mitch, it is Christmas. Go home and be with Felicia, she needs you.
Cass: I'm dirt. I'm scum, I am pond scum. And I'm the pond scum that is at the bottom of the pond, not at the top.
Felicia: Cass, please.
Cass: You do not know, Felicia. I really blew it this time.
Felicia: All right, all right. We can get through this. Just tell me what happened.
Cass: I screwed up big time, that is what happened. Big time.
Felicia: So what else is new?
Cass: Thanks a lot.
Felicia: I'm sorry. Now look, I have forgiven you plenty of times, and so have others. Now, if Frankie really cares about you, and I know she does--
Cass: I slept with Cecile.
Felicia: Oh, lord.
Cass: And I did not tell Frankie.
Felicia: Oh, lord.
Cass: It gets worse.
Felicia: How could it get any worse than that?
Cass: I told her I didnít.
Felicia: You rotten, no good, deceitful, lying--
Cass: Please, stop hitting me, would you please?
Felicia: If this were Frankie, she would be running you over with a bulldozer. Cass, how could you?
Cass: I did not exactly say that I didnít. But then again, on the other hand, I definitely did not say I did.
Felicia: That is the lamest excuse I've ever heard out of your mouth.
Cass: What am I going to do?
Felicia: I would leave town before Frankie kills you.
Cass: I know. Murder one.
Felicia: You know, honesty is the most important thing to Frankie. Well, it is the most important thing to most of us.
Cass: I'm not in love with Cecile anymore.
Felicia: That is not really the point, is it?
Cass: It was nostalgia or something.
Felicia: Nostalgia? For what? Cecile has brought you nothing but heartache.
Cass: I know. That is why I did not want to tell Frankie the truth.
Felicia: What? I mean, I'm afraid you have completely lost me.
Cass: She would think I felt the same way about her and I donít. I donít just want to sleep with Frankie. I really care about her.
Felicia: My head is spinning.
Cass: So is my stomach. So what do I do?
Felicia: Did you and Frankie, you know? Last night?
Cass: Oh, no. But we were about to today and she looked right in my eyes and she told me how wonderful it was that I had waited for her.
Together: Pond scum.
Felicia: Yeah, that sums it up, doesn't it?
Cass: If I lie to her now, there will just be more lies and more lies, and I donít want to start a relationship with her that way.
Felicia: Well, if you tell her the truth, you know you're going to be singing soprano in the Bay City choral society.
Felicia: This is a tough one, honey.
Cass: Oh, help!
Singer: ...Are you listening?
Vicky: I donít think I have ever had a happier day than today. And I'm so glad you stopped by, I did not have anyone to celebrate with. Steven is asleep.
Evan: Let's drink to Steven.
Vicky: To Steven.
Singer: Walking in a winter wonderland
Vicky: Hey, are you hungry? Bridget left a terrific-smelling turkey in the oven.
Evan: No, I ate at the Coryís.
Vicky: Oh my. How was it?
Evan: Interesting. Rachel announced that she is leaving Cory Enterprises. She says she needs some time.
Vicky: Wow--she called me last night. I wonder if that's what it was about.
Evan: I donít know. Whatever it is, Iris is taking over.
Vicky: Oh-ho! How does Amanda feel about that?
Evan: Well, she is not too thrilled.
Vicky: I can imagine.
Evan: Should be a very interesting year.
Vicky: Yeah. I have very high hopes for it myself.
Evan: Well, you should.
Vicky: I do. Evan, you saved my life.
Evan: No, no, you decided on your own to come back by yourself.
Vicky: Yeah, but I could not have done it without your help. I feel like my life started over today.
Evan: I have got to tell you, I'm happy for you.
Vicky: I have an announcement to make.
Vicky: It includes you.
Evan: Double uh-oh.
Vicky: [Laughs] I just might need your help a little bit for old times' sake.
Felicia: I know what you should do.
Felicia: You have to tell Frankie the truth.
Cass: I was afraid you were going to say that.
Felicia: Now, I know it is going to take a little fancy footwork.
Cass: Gene Kelly could not tap dance his way out of this one.
Felicia: Honey, you have to. If for no other reason, for your own safety.
Cass: How do I tell her, Felicia, really?
Frankie: You can leave the presents with me. I will tell Cass you were here. I promise.
Caroline: I would like to give them to him in person.
Frankie: Caroline, do not be a sore loser. I know that you and Cass were involved, but that is over now. So act like a grown-up and accept defeat gracefully, ok?
Caroline: I'll wait.
Frankie: He's going to be very busy when he gets home.
Caroline: Oh, I can see that.
Frankie: So now that you have finally gotten the picture, donít you think it would be best if you--
Caroline: I'm really surprised that you put up with it.
Frankie: With what?
Caroline: When I started going out with Cass I went into it with both my eyes open. I thought you were the more serious type.
Frankie: Oh, this is serious.
Cass: Life is so complicated.
Felicia: I'm finding that out more every day.
Cass: I do not want to hurt her. That is why I did not tell her. That is the truth of it.
Felicia: I know.
Cass: It is so hard to be honest with the people that you love sometimes.
Caroline: You donít really think he is ready to make a serious commitment to you?
Frankie: Not that I think it is any of your business, but yes, I do.
Caroline: He is a playboy. He always was and he always will be.
Frankie: Is that right?
Caroline: Yes, and he is bored.
Cass: I do not mean to be a jerk.
Felicia: Oh, honey, I know. Sometimes people just canít help themselves, that is all.
Cass: We're just a couple of cheery little Christmas elves today, aren't we?
Felicia: [Sobbing] I lost him.
Cass: Donít say that.
Felicia: Yeah, I did. I donít really believe that Rachel wants him back... not yet, anyway. But he is acting as though she is his responsibility. He is acting as though she is his wife, not me.
Cass: He loves you, honey. When you were in prison, that man was obsessed with getting you out.
Felicia: Now he has a new obsession. Or maybe I should just say an old one.
Cass: You're not going to like this, but I know what he is going through. He is going to realize it is over, he will be back, and it is going to be just the way it used to be. I promise you.
Felicia: I'm not sure that it can be the way it used to be.
Cass: Come here. I wish I did not have to see you suffer like this.
Felicia: Come on, you know me. I will be fine.
Cass: I'm the first one to admit that.
Felicia: So, what about Frankie? What are you going to do?
Cass: You mean am I going to go tell her?
Cass: Well, I do not want to, but I do not have any choice. At least not if I want to keep her in my life. So, wish me luck.
Felicia: You are going to need it.
Caroline: He left me for Cecile and now she is gone and he is trying you out.
Frankie: First of all, he did not leave you for Cecile. And secondly, nothing happened.
Caroline: You're not really that naive, are you?
Frankie: I donít like what you're implying, Caroline.
Caroline: I do not believe you.
Amanda: Alli is really happy that you're here.
Sam: So am I.
Amanda: Are you?
Sam: Yeah... for her.
Amanda: The 3 of us belong together as a family.
Sam: Amanda, every day is not Christmas. It is the day-to-day that we have to deal with. Iris, you're still here.
Iris: Well, obviously. I would really like to speak to Amanda.
Amanda: Iris, this really is not the best time.
Sam: No, that is fine. I'm going to take Alli upstairs--whoo!--And we're going to go play with toys and the bear and the baby and maybe take a nap. Ok? Great, let's go. Ba-bu-bum, ya-dum...
Iris: I want to ask you yet again to put our differences aside, especially if we're going to be working together.
Iris: "Sophisticate" is a demanding project, unlike "Brava." I do not want you to jeopardize your home life because of hard work.
Amanda: I can handle that.
Iris: Fine, just donít get in over your head.
Amanda: Why, do you think I canít handle this?
Iris: Well, I do remember that you opposed me bringing "Sophisticate" to Cory.
Amanda: Yes, I did. But it is working, I will give you that.
Iris: Thank you.
Amanda: And I will run it my way.
Iris: Mm-mm. It is my baby.
Amanda: You are going to have enough to concentrate your energy on, Iris.
Iris: Ah, yes, but I donít have a home to come home to.
Amanda: I will keep "Sophisticate" running very well, and my home will be very happy. Donít you forget that.
Vicky: I want a job.
Evan: A job?
Vicky: Yeah, a job, a real job.
Evan: Come on. You blew it as a waitress in Lassiter.
Evan: Ok, what kind of job would you like?
Vicky: Well, I thought I'd call Iris. She owes me a favor.
Vicky: Mm-hmm. Now donít you think I would be a great asset to "Sophisticate"?
Evan: Yeah, but Iris is not running that any more. Amanda is now.
Vicky: Hey, honey, that magazine would not exist if I did not give Iris my proxy, or whatever.
Evan: What brought this on? You're loaded.
Vicky: Well, I get tired of sitting around. And I get in trouble when I do not have anything to do.
Evan: You sure this is what you want?
Vicky: Donít you like Amanda because she's sure of herself in her work and she's independent?
Evan: Well, among many reasons, yes.
Vicky: Ok, well, maybe I would like someone to see me that way.
Evan: Vicky, if you're doing this to get--
Vicky: What else do you like about Amanda?
Evan: Well, she is rich. She is everything I thought--you know, she is down to earth. She has good breeding. She is smart. She's pretty. She is funny.
Vicky: I'm sorry I asked.
Evan: She is just everything that I would want to be. She is exactly what people like me and you are not.
Vicky: Thank you so much for coming by.
Evan: I'm just happy that everything is working out for you.
Vicky: Yeah, me, too.
Evan: I care about you.
Vicky: I hope it continues.
Evan: It will unless you screw it up.
Vicky: Hey, you're wrong about one thing.
Evan: What is that?
Vicky: I am not a bad person.
Evan: Did I say you were?
Vicky: No, you said Amanda was better than I am.
Evan: I'm sorry about that. It's just, when I start talking about her I get carried away.
Vicky: Love, I guess.
Evan: I guess.
Vicky: Well, I'm going to start living my life more honestly.
Evan: Maybe I should try and do the same.
Vicky: Maybe we should try together. I think we make a very good team.
Evan: Merry Christmas, Vicky. And I hope you get everything that you want.
Vicky: Evan, you have been my best friend the past few months. I just feel like we have gotten a lot closer.
Evan: We have.
Evan: I care about you, Victoria... but you know where I stand. Take care.
Amanda: Now, Jamie, Mom still looks tired.
Rachel: I'm ok.
Jamie: You still need to take it easy for a while.
Rachel: All I did today was overeat. I'm fine.
Amanda: Where did you say you're going to go?
Rachel: I donít know yet, but it will not be far, and I will be in touch.
Sam: Rachel, we're not trying to pressure you. There are just a lot of people around here who depend on you.
Rachel: I know that. Maybe it is time for you all to depend on each other for a while.
Ada: We have got a beautiful little baby girl sound asleep on this giant teddy bear.
Ada: It is a photo op, if anybody is interested.
Amanda: Yes, we are.
Ada: Come on, come on.
Jamie: I will go with them. Hey, Mom.
Rachel: I'm coming. I'm coming.
Felicia: Is Rachel any better?
Mitch: Yeah. Let's not talk about it.
Felicia: Well, that is a good solution, isnít it? This is not exactly my idea of a joyous holiday celebration.
Mitch: She is--may be leaving. That is what you want, isnít it?
Felicia: I donít want you back by default.
Mitch: I never left.
Felicia: Yes, you have. And the sooner you realize that, the sooner we can get on with our lives--with or without each other.
Frankie: What do you know?
Caroline: It is not my place.
Frankie: You just cannot accept the fact that Cass is falling in love with me, so do you really think--
Caroline: Falling in love with you? Since when? Frankie, maybe I really should go.
Frankie: Cass did not sleep with Cecile.
Caroline: Would you please give this to Cass for me?
Frankie: Oh, my God. It is true.
Cass: Caroline, what are you doing here?
Caroline: I was just leaving.
Cass: Frankie, we have to talk.
Frankie: Did you sleep with Cecile?
