[Knock on door]

Singer: Why should I run when I know you're loving me? Why should I care when there's joy everywhere?

Singer: Why canít I see the beauty of the light?

[Music turns down]

Vicky: Uh -- no, no, no, darling. That wonít do.

Evan: What wonít?

Vicky: Well, the sweat, for one thing, and those clothes.

Evan: Vicky, what are you talking about?

Vicky: Well, our date, of course.

Evan: What do you mean, "our date"?

Vicky: Now, come on and go and take a shower and get changed. I'll wait right here.

Evan: Who do you think you are?

Vicky: Come on, hurry up!

Stacey: Oh. I must've dozed off.

Derek: Big-time.

Stacey: What?

Derek: I was gone all night.

Stacey: I donít even remember.

Derek: And most of the day.

Stacey: Did somebody put something in that wine? Was this a setup?

Derek: I donít think so. I think this place is good luck for us.

Stacey: Why?

Derek: I think I may have found the red swan.

Rachel: Feliciaís person from the gallery will be here within the hour and I wonít be here to show him which painting, so make sure he gets that one.

[Phone rings]

Rachel: Oh, excuse me.

Hilda: Which --

Rachel: Yes? Yes, ok. Yes, I'll be right there. Iris has arrived, so I do have to go. If the person isnít here within the hour, let me know that, ok?

Hilda: Which one did she mean? Mrs. Cory?

Evan: What are you talking about, "our date"?

Vicky: We talked about it last night.

Evan: We did?

Vicky: The charity art auction, you and me? Rich people and big paintings, remember?

Evan: Oh, yeah. I told you I would think about it.

Vicky: Yeah, well, why stay around here and sweat when you can go rub shoulders with Bay City's elite?

Evan: Because I'm not so sure I want to do that anymore.

Vicky: Oh, come on. Donít tell me you're still mad at me because I belted you.

Evan: What? No, no.

Vicky: Well, then what's the problem?

Evan: Canít you go alone?

Vicky: What is it? Donít you like my dress?

Evan: Vicky, your dress is great.

Vicky: Well, then?

Evan: I donít know. I just donít feel like socializing, that's all.

Vicky: That's ridiculous. Oh, I get it. Some woman turned you down, huh?

Evan: What?

Vicky: Well, that's why you look like your bicycle was stolen. You got some hot number to say no to you and you're pouting.

Evan: Shut up, Vicky.

Vicky: Hey!

Evan: I mean it!

Vicky: Sorry. Evan, I was just kidding.

Evan: Yeah, well, forget about it.

Vicky: Now, when -- when I feel like you look, the best medicine is to go into a big crowd of people and drink a whole lot of cheap champagne.

Evan: Oh, yeah?

Vicky: Absolutely. Now, come on. You've done me a little favor. Why donít you let me repay you?

Evan: Vicky, you do have this -- you got this way about you.

Vicky: So I'm told.

Evan: What does one wear to a charity art auction?

Vicky: You'll come?

Evan: What have I got to lose?

Vicky: Great!

Evan: But I got one question for you.

Vicky: Mm-hmm? Anything.

Evan: Why are you so gung-ho about getting me to take you?

Vicky: I like you. We have fun.

Evan: That's it?

Vicky: Want more?

Evan: If you're using me to make Jamie jealous again --

Vicky: Oh, donít be ridiculous. I donít even know if he's going to be there.

Evan: Well, you know, it doesn't matter.

Vicky: Why?

Evan: Because I've been hurt before and I've lived. What's one more time?

Vicky: Mm-hmm.

Singers: Hey, hey, hey

[Vicky snaps fingers]

Stacey: So you saw the swan?

Derek: Now, hold on. I didnít say that.

Stacey: Ok, well, tell me everything.

Derek: Well, last night that butler took me to Dr. Jasper's office.

Stacey: What's he like?

Derek: She.

Stacey: Dr. Jasper is a woman?

Derek: No, but his assistant is.

Stacey: So you spent all night and all day with a woman?

Derek: It's ok. Well, she was good-looking.

Stacey: Oh, well, then I --

Derek: Oh, it's all right. We made good use of our time.

Stacey: Oh, gee, that's great.

Derek: Well, now, wait a minute. I learned a ton of stuff about the swan -- the legend behind it, everything. She really knows her stuff.

Stacey: Well, I'll bet she does.

Derek: I'm serious now. I have a really good feeling about this. It's like everything is falling right into place.

Stacey: Why is it that she's so eager to tell us everything -- or you everything?

Derek: Well, she wasn't at first, but I think I finally got her to trust me.

Stacey: Oh. And how did you do that, Mr. Dane?

Derek: Well, Miss Winthrop, she told me a lot. But she knows even more, and she said she would meet us here in a few minutes.

Stacey: Does she know our connection to the theft?

Derek: I didnít say anything. She didnít ask, but I know she can help us.

Stacey: Well, what's her name? Catherine.

Catherine: I'm sorry. Have we met?

Stacey: Now I get what's going on. You work for Lucas.

Iris: Oh, trust Rachel to keep us waiting.

Lucas: We're early.

Iris: That is no excuse.

Lucas: Would you relax?

Iris: Oh, look, Lucas, this was your brilliant idea. It doesn't mean to say that I have to pretend that I enjoy it.

Lucas: Well, I did it for you.

Iris: Oh, yeah, right.

Lucas: Wow. If you're a good girl, you can make some big points with the stockholders.

Iris: Do you really think the Cory stockholders are going to be attending that auction?

Lucas: Are you kidding? They love to dress up and show off. Just let them see you making nice with Rachel.

Iris: But I loathe her.

Lucas: The feeling is mutual. Be a good girl.

Iris: Well, I hope you're going to extract those promises from Rachel. I'm sick of being the doormat.

Lucas: Iris, if we are right about your father putting a new will in the base of the red swan, you had better be on good terms with her. Because if she gets it first, you are going to be selling flowers from a cart on the corner.

Iris: Hmm. That will never happen.

Lucas: Donít burn your bridges. Just donít burn your bridges.

Rachel: Sorry to keep you waiting.

Lucas: Hello. Rachel, you look lovely.

Rachel: Thank you.

Iris: Oh, it's lovely to see you, darling.

Rachel: I'm afraid -- I tried calling you earlier -- I'm going to stay here. I'll meet you over there later.

Lucas: Oh, I donít think that's a good idea.

Rachel: You donít?

Lucas: Well, if the purpose of this is to show that you two are making amends, I mean, we should arrive together.

Iris: Lucas is right as usual.

Rachel: This wasn't my idea, Lucas. This was your idea. I'm afraid I'm going to have to stay here. If you want to join me, then you can wait also. Iris, I've been trying to get you for the last two days. There are some quarterly reports you have to go over. You wouldnít accept my calls?

Iris: Oh, no, no. I was in a meeting.

Rachel: Long meeting. Papers are in the library.

Iris: How convenient.

Lucas: Oh, Rachel, I want to take a peek in your studio. Guess it's all right.

Vicky: Hmm. Fake.

Evan: Ok.

Vicky: No, absolutely not.

Evan: Why not?

Vicky: You look like Jake. Forget it.

Evan: Well, that's a good point.

Vicky: Hey, hey, no animal skins.

Evan: All right, all right. All right, I think I got something here.

Vicky: All right, get out here. Um --

Evan: Wait, wait, just wait.

Vicky: Um -- uh --

Evan: What do you think?

Vicky: Better.

Evan: Still not it?

Vicky: No. Go try again, Ev. You know, I never have been to an art auction before.

Evan: Really?

Vicky: Uh-uh.

Evan: That means you donít play with your hair, donít make any unnecessary gestures unless you want to bid.

Vicky: You'll teach me all the ropes, right?

Evan: Oh, you better believe I will.

Vicky: All right, what do you got?

Evan: All right, hey, I think I got something.

Vicky: Ok. Get out here.

Evan: Excuse me.

Vicky: I wonít look.

Evan: Ok.

Vicky: Let's see. Oh, I knew you could do it. Got a string tie?

Evan: I got about 12.

Vicky: Well, go put one of them on. You know, my checkbook is absolutely burning a hole in my pocket. I may just have to buy something tonight.

Evan: Oh, yeah, Vicky, I know how much you appreciate art.

Vicky: Hey, I love art. You've got some interesting art around here.

Evan: Yeah?

Vicky: Yes.

Evan: All right.

Vicky: Come on, let's go.

Evan: Hold on. Something subtle and small, but -- what do you think?

Vicky: Oh. Better than a string tie. Looks perfect.

Evan: You know, I am so glad you finally approve. I mean, I do want to look the part, but --

Vicky: Evan, I donít care if Jamieís there tonight. Do you believe me?

Evan: No.

Vicky: I didnít think so.

Evan: But I told you that I donít care, for now.

Vicky: I enjoy spending time with you.

Evan: Why?

Vicky: Are you fishing?

Evan: Maybe.

Vicky: You're interesting.

Evan: I donít think I'm quite as interesting as you are.

Vicky: Well, few are. And you've got a respectable job.

Evan: Mm-hmm.

Vicky: You've got wonderful taste. I mean, this -- this place is just great.

Evan: Well, thank you.

Vicky: And you're cute.

Evan: Cute?

Vicky: Yes, cute.

Evan: I hate --

Vicky: Very, very cute.

Evan: I hate "cute." Let's see -- when's the last time I was called cute? I bet I was in second grade when I had that little bowl cut, that --

Vicky: Well, you are.

Evan: So are you.

Vicky: Thank you.

Evan: You're very, very welcome.

Vicky: Why donít we go be a cute couple in public?

Evan: Ok. I'll be Donny and you can be Marie.

Vicky: Donít push it.

Evan: But I want to know, can you sing?

Vicky: I'm a little bit country

Evan: And I'm a little bit rock 'n' roll

Hilda: Oh. I didnít know you were here.

Lucas: Oh, Hilda, Mrs. Cory said I could look around.

Man: I've already caught hell. This painting is supposed to be there now.

Hilda: She didnít tell me which one and there are so many.

Lucas: Oh, I know which one it is. Anyway, you just got a phone call from -- I think it was the kitchen.

Hilda: Not the soufflť.

Lucas: That's it, the soufflť. Uh -- this one's it right here.

Man: Sure this is the one?

Lucas: Absolutely sure.

Derek: You work for Lucas?

Catherine: I used to, yes.

Stacey: But you donít work for him now?

Catherine: It didnít work out. Besides, I'm much happier here with Dr. Jasper.

Stacey: And what exactly do you do for Dr. Jasper?

Catherine: I'm an art historian. I worked for Lucas to pay the bills. He promised me much more than I ever got, so I left.

Stacey: Oh, I see.

Catherine: I heard he hired a new assistant.

Stacey: Yes, but I didnít realize that you were the one that was replaced.

Catherine: I couldn't continue to work for a man I couldn't trust.

Derek: You didnít tell me that you worked for Lucas.

Catherine: You didnít tell me you knew him.

Derek: Why donít you trust him?

Catherine: He frightened me.

Stacey: In what way?

Catherine: Look, I hate to admit this. I have my pride.

Stacey: Yes, but?

Catherine: I didnít quit, he fired me. And I broke my back for him over and over again.

Stacey: Well, what happened?

Catherine: It doesn't matter. Anyway, now I'm doing what I know best, and Dr. Jasper is the top in his field. I consider myself very fortunate to know him.

Stacey: Ok, so do you do all of your work in this house?

Catherine: Yes. It is a wonderful house, isnít it?

Stacey: We think so.

Catherine: It's almost magical.

Stacey: I sure felt like I was under some kind of spell last night.

Catherine: There are a lot of secrets.

Lucas: I know I told you this last night, but that red swan is very important to me.

Catherine: To a lot of people.

Derek: Now, my future depends upon finding it. And you know where it is, donít you?

Catherine: Yes.

Derek: Will you tell me?

Catherine: Yes, I will.

Stacey: Do you have it, Catherine?

Catherine: It's very complicated.

Derek: The police think I took it.

Catherine: You?

Derek: Now you see why I have to find it.

Catherine: There are some things I have to check.

Stacey: Can you prove to us that you know where it is?

Catherine: Yes.

Derek: Will you help me?

Catherine: Give me a few minutes.

Stacey: Why?

Catherine: I can show you some things that will prove to you that I know where the swan is and how it got there.

Derek: Catherine? You're saving my life.

Catherine: I'll be right back.

Stacey: I donít believe this.

Derek: I knew we'd find it here.

Stacey: She's involved with Lucas. This canít be a coincidence.

Derek: Lucas doesn't know where the statue is. I'm sure of that.

Stacey: Did you hear her say that she was afraid of Lucas?

Derek: Yes.

Stacey: They're all involved, Derek. I just canít piece it together.

Derek: Let's just see what she brings us, and then we'll know for sure what's going on with Lucas.

Catherine: Oh, my God.

Felicia: Now, James, I am expecting two more deliveries, but I -- I think we're almost ready.

James: I'm ready.

Felicia: Uh -- would you like to gargle or something?

James: Excuse me?

Felicia: Well, I mean, you're the auctioneer. Your voice -- you're going to be doing a lot of talking tonight.

James: Relax, Felicia.

Felicia: Right.

James: It will be fine.

Felicia: Ok.

James: I'll see you later.

Felicia: Thank you, James. Yes.

Mitch: This place looks great.

Felicia: Oh, hi. I'm a little nervous.

Mitch: Come on, there's nothing to be nervous about. It's going to be a big success. I mean, after all, you're the best hostess I know.

Felicia: I'm glad you're here.

Mitch: Wouldnít be anyplace else.

Felicia: I wonder.

Mitch: What?

Felicia: Well, you're looking at your watch. You never look at your watch.

Mitch: I was thinking about Rachel. She's supposed to be here with Iris and she's not looking forward to it.

Felicia: Well, Lucas is bringing them. He'll be the referee.

Mitch: How do you know?

Felicia: He told me.

Mitch: When?

Felicia: It doesn't make any difference.

Mitch: You've seen him?

Felicia: I see him as much as you see Rachel.

Ronnie: It's not that bad.

Zack: You're making a statement. That's what --

Ronnie: Oh, it's too late, anyway. We're here.

Zack: Look, I told you we were early.

Ronnie: Yeah, for the first time in our lives.

Zack: Well, I like being fashionably late.

Ronnie: Yeah, you just wanted to stay home and watch "Monday night football." Admit it.

Zack: That's not true.

Ronnie: Oh, no? Then why'd you take 20 minutes to set up the VCR?

Zack: Well, in case I get insomnia from all this highbrow stuff, I'll have something to do.

Ronnie: Mm-hmm. Come on, I'll try to make this as painless for you as possible.

Zack: Oh.

[Ronnie laughs]

Michael: I have no idea where I am.

Donna: She's not here. I wonder where she is.

Michael: Who's not here?

Donna: Your girlfriend, the proprietor of this place.

Michael: Are you still upset about that?

Donna: I wonder if she's going to auction off a bronze cupid tonight. I hope she is.

Michael: Donna, this is Feliciaís project.

Donna: But the night that I found you with Caroline, she said that she was specifically getting together this auction.

Michael: Caroline was talking about an auction on a much smaller scale.

Donna: How small? You, the four walls, and Miss Australia?

Michael: Would you like some champagne, dear?

Donna: Am I making you nervous, dear?

Michael: If making me nervous means getting on my nerves, yes.

Donna: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Yes, I'd like some champagne, if it's cold.

Michael: It will be cold.

Donna: Hi.

Felicia: Donna, hi.

Donna: How are you?

Felicia: Good.

Mitch: Excuse me. I'm going to make a phone call.

Donna: Everything all right?

Felicia: Peachy.

Donna: Anything I can do?

Felicia: No. No, thank you, Donna.

Donna: About Mitch.

Felicia: Mitch?

Donna: I recognize the look.

Felicia: I'm sure you do.

Donna: I'm an old hand at keeping the husband on the defensive. If you ever want to have a quick lesson from me --

Felicia: Donna, I'm fine. Really I am. Hi. It's nice to see you tonight. Thank you for coming.

Donna: I have much more experience than you do.

Felicia: With what?

Donna: Well, marriage, of course.

Felicia: Donna, you know what? I'm expecting a delivery. You'll excuse me, wonít you? Of course you will.

Donna: Oh, all right. Uh-huh.

Felicia: Yes. See you later.

Lucas: Great to see you.

Donna: My, my, look what we have here. Hi. Hi, Lucas.

Lucas: Hello, Donna.

Donna: How are you?

Lucas: Fine.

Donna: My goodness, look at you two beautiful women.

Lucas: I'm a lucky guy.

Iris: And you, Donna?

Donna: And me, what, Iris?

Iris: Alone again?

Donna: Michaelís getting champagne for me.

Iris: Oh, is he?

Rachel: How are you, Donna?

Donna: I could be worse, I suppose.

Rachel: I'm going to go talk to Felicia.

Donna: I'm going to go find my husband. See you later.

Iris: Sure he's here, dear? Come on, what's the matter with you?

Lucas: I have to tell you something.

Iris: Oh, is that why you were squeezing my hand in the car?

Lucas: Listen, I was in Rachelís studio.

Iris: I know. You left me alone with her for over half an hour.

Lucas: And Sam is working on a painting. It's a portrait of Amanda.

Iris: Rubenesque, I hope.

Lucas: Listen to me. He's painting over an old canvas that's been painted over.

Iris: Oh, that's fascinating.

Lucas: And in the corner, on the bottom, the new paint has been washed away.

Iris: Absolutely riveting.

Lucas: And in that corner is a red swan.

Iris: What?

Lucas: That's right. No one else knows about it, I'm sure.

Iris: What do you think this means?

Lucas: Oh, I donít know. Uh -- the lot number is 16.

Iris: Sam is auctioning off an unfinished painting and -- hang on. Did you do something? What are you up to?

Lucas: I think it's one of his old paintings. It's listed under "family love."

Iris: Well, when Rachel sees it, she'll know.

Lucas: It'll be too late.

Iris: So what are you intending to do?

Lucas: Bid on it.

Iris: No.

Lucas: Yes. By the end of this evening, we're going to own that painting, no matter what it takes.

Iris: You'll have to bid for it.

Lucas: I intend to.

Iris: I canít. It would look too suspicious.

Lucas: Rachelís going to know I sent the wrong picture.

Iris: Once it's on the block, they canít retrieve it, can they?

Lucas: That's right.

Iris: Well, what's the painting on the red swan got to do with the other one?

Lucas: Donít ask so many questions. Just let's get the painting first.

Donna: He isnít wasting any time, is he?

Michael: I guess not.

Donna: Come on. Hi, Jamie.

Natalie: Hi, Mrs. Hudson, Michael.

Michael: Good evening.

Jamie: Hello, Donna. It's nice to see you.

Donna: Is it?

Jamie: How's Nicole?

Donna: All the women in my family are suffering now.

Michael: Hey.

Natalie: Are you going to bid on something here tonight, Michael?

Michael: I donít know, to tell you the truth.

Donna: Natalie, I thought you were going out with some nice, young attorney from Chicago.

Natalie: I was.

Donna: What happened? Didnít it work out?

Natalie: No.

Jamie: Listen, Natalie, would you mind getting us some drinks? I need to speak with Michael for a minute.

Natalie: Sure.

Jamie: Thanks. And, Donna, if you wouldnít mind, I'd like to speak to Michael alone.

Donna: Anything that you say to Michael --

Michael: Donna --

Donna: I can hear.

Michael: Donna, do you mind? Please? Thank you.

Jamie: Ahem. Well, Michael, listen, I've -- I've wanted to say this for a long time now.

Michael: What's that?

Jamie: I am very sorry about everything that's happened.

Michael: So am I, Jamie.

Jamie: I know how close you were to Mac, and I know he wouldnít want my problems with Vicky to interfere with how you feel about him or my family.

Michael: Jamie, nothing could change the way I feel about Mac. And I've known Rachel almost all my life. And I want you to know that nothing you do is going to affect my feelings about your family.

Jamie: Michael, I had no choice.

Michael: Jamie, I'm not proud of a lot of the things that Victoria has done, but I love her. She's my daughter. And I believe she makes a wonderful mother for Steven.

Jamie: I never wanted to keep her from him.

Michael: You just do the best you can. Because I would hate to see Steven suffer because you want revenge against Vicky.

Vicky: Hello, Jamie.

Jamie: Hello, Victoria.

Vicky: Well, there doesn't seem to be a social event in this town that we donít bump into each other.

Jamie: I guess not.

Vicky: Maybe you should move.

Evan: Vicky. Why donít we see who else is at the party?

Vicky: Wonderful idea.

Evan: Let's go.

Vicky: Goodbye, Jamie.

Jamie: How charming.

Jamie: Hi, guys.

Ronnie: Hey, Jamie.

Jamie: How are you?

Ronnie: Good.

Zack: How you doing, buddy?

Jamie: Very good.

Ronnie: I saw that beautiful son of yours today.

Jamie: You did? When?

Ronnie: Yeah, Vicky brought him for his checkup.

Jamie: Oh, that's right. Yeah.

Zack: So how are things going now?

Jamie: Well, it's -- it's complicated. But then, when wasn't it? Listen, if you'll excuse me.

Zack: Sure.

Ronnie: Oh, he's still hung up on her.

Zack: On Vicky?

Ronnie: Mm-hmm.

Zack: After what those two have been through?

Ronnie: Probably because of it.

Donna: May I ask you a question?

Vicky: If I said no, would you listen?

Donna: What do you think you're doing parading around here like this with Evan Bates?

Vicky: The same thing Jamie is doing parading around with Dad's new secretary.

Donna: That's entirely different.

Vicky: Oh, because he's a man?

Donna: Because he has the upper hand. He has Steven. And if you want to get your son back, you've got to watch what you're doing and who you do it with.

Vicky: Mother, it's under control.

Donna: You always say everything is under control.

Vicky: If you donít mind, I would like to keep my date company.

Donna: I'm trying to help you, Victoria.

Vicky: Then butt out, mother.

Donna: Donít talk to me that way. I donít like it.

Vicky: I'm sorry.

Vicky: I'm taking my anger out on the wrong person.

Rachel: Did the painting arrive?

Felicia: Yes, it did. In fact, they're putting a lot number on in the back right now.

Rachel: Oh, good, I was worried it was going to be late.

Felicia: No, this is my auction, remember? My brother-in-law has to have his work displayed.

Rachel: It's a good painting. I hope he gets a lot of bids on it.

Felicia: "Family love." Yes, it's a wonderful painting. I've got to go to the office.

Rachel: All right.

Felicia: Ok.

Iris: As soon as Rachel sees that painting, she's going to be on to us.

Lucas: I'll handle Rachel.

Iris: That's what you always say.

Lucas: Listen, this is a very delicate situation, Iris. The less you have to do with it, the better.

Iris: I just want to know what the mystery is about.

Lucas: Do you want to get that statue back?

Iris: You know I do.

Lucas: Well, have I ever steered you wrong?

Iris: Not that I remember.

Lucas: Then let me do it my way.

Iris: Oh, well, that'll be something new and different.

Lucas: We're going to get that red swan. Trust me.

Derek: What's taking her so long?

Stacey: I donít know. Maybe we should check to see if something happened to her.

Derek: No.

Stacey: Why not?

Derek: Let's let Catherine do this her way.

[Stacey whistles]

Derek: What's all this?

Stacey: An old record.

Derek: Do they work? Does it work?

Stacey: Well, yeah. I put one on last night after you left and I listened to the music, and I felt kind of relaxed and calm and --

Derek: Do you have any idea how long you slept?

Stacey: 15 hours or so.

Derek: And I was gone all that time.

Stacey: Yeah, but it only felt like a few minutes.

Derek: What is it about this place?

Stacey: I donít know. Catherine seems to know.

Derek: Do you know how to work this?

Stacey: No, I donít know.

Derek: But, Stacey, you just said that you played it.

Stacey: Yeah, I donít remember putting a record on last night. I remember listening to the music.

Derek: No, you were just very tired. You probably forgot.

Stacey: This is getting weirder and weirder.

Derek: How long has Catherine been gone?

Stacey: I donít know. A half an hour or so?

Derek: Has it been that long? It's been longer than that, hasn't it?

[Music plays]

Stacey: This is crazy. Well, if we canít beat them Ė

Donna: Where's Natalie?

Jamie: She's fixing her makeup.

Donna: You been seeing her long?

Jamie: No, I -- I was married until recently.

Donna: And you still are, legally.

Jamie: Look, Donna, I'm really not in the mood for this, ok?

Donna: How's my grandson?

Jamie: Doesn't she bring him around to see you when she has him?

Donna: Victoria's very protective of Steven. I would be, too.

Jamie: I'm going to go find Natalie.

Donna: Jamie, you know, I really used to like you.

Jamie: Donna --

Donna: I did. You know, I -- I was so thrilled when Victoria started going with you. I thought, "Sheís finally met somebody who's good and honest." That's all I ever wanted for my daughters.

Jamie: I donít think this is really getting us anywhere.

Donna: I just want to tell you something. No matter what Victoria did, she did it because she was terrified of losing you.

Jamie: Donna, she had me.

Donna: But if you had loved her, Jamie, no matter what had happened, you would have tried, at least tried to work it out.

Jamie: And you donít think I did?

Donna: I donít know!

Jamie: I loved her more than I thought I could have. I wanted to spend the entire -- my entire life with her. I thought we had everything.

Donna: Then you should have fought harder.

Jamie: I donít fight, nor do I want to fight the way Vicky fights. If I could change it, I would. But I'm not the bad guy here, Donna. I'm not the one who lied through his teeth.

Donna: But you got back at her, didnít you? And you're still hurting her, aren't you? You know I'm right.

Felicia: Hello, nice to see you. Thanks for coming. Hi.

Michael: Hi.

Felicia: Caroline got held up. We'll start as soon as she arrives.

Michael: Well, you've got quite a turnout here.

Felicia: Yeah, it's not bad. I think maybe I should start this now.

Michael: Good idea.

Rachel: So we arrived together and now we're spending all of our time apart.

Mitch: So you've made your point. It doesn't mean that you've got to spend the rest of the evening with her.

Rachel: Lucas' point was we were supposed to present a united front.

Mitch: Well, maybe he's decided not to press the issue.

Rachel: Or maybe he's up to something.

Mitch: Lot number 23. I believe that's your sculpture.

Rachel: Yes. It's an old piece. I couldn't figure out what to part with.

Mitch: I hope Samís painting gets some attention.

Rachel: Well, it should. It was the big hit of last season's show.

Mitch: Yes, I know. I'm surprised he never sold it.

Rachel: I think he loves the new piece, and that's what made him part with the old one.

Felicia: May I have everyone's attention, please? Would you take your seats? We're about to begin. Thank you. Thank you all for coming, by the way. Thank you. My name is Felicia Gallant. Oh -- on behalf of Caroline Stafford and myself, I would like to welcome all of you to our charity art auction. As you know, we're here to raise money to help homeless children. We have wonderful works of art on display here, ranging from local artists to portraits from the turn of the century. So we would like to begin our bidding with our first item, lot number one. And I'm going to turn the podium now over to James Marks, our auctioneer for this event. I should also let you know that in your booklets, lot 80 has been withdrawn.

[Man whispers]

Felicia: James? All right, take over, and, please, spend a lot of money.

Lucas: Catherine --

James: The next object is from --

Evan: That's Amanda.

James: Here in town. You all know it, but the donor requested anonymity. We're opening the bidding at $500. 500. $500. 1,000. $1,000. 1,200, 1,200 is asked. 1,500. 1,500. Thank you. I'm seeking $2,000, $2,000. I have 2,000. 2,500, 2,500. 2,750. 2,750. 2,500 once, twice, sold.

James: Finally, this particular set from this historic, old house, what you see on the table here.

James: Do I hear 750?

[Door closes]

[Music plays]

[Music ends]

Derek: You look very beautiful tonight.

Stacey: I do?

Derek: I --

Stacey: What?

Derek: I canít imagine the rest of my life without you in it.

Stacey: Derek --

Derek: Stacey, I -- I love you. Does that upset you?

Stacey: Why in the world would it upset me?

Derek: I donít know. Maybe you donít feel the same way.

Stacey: No. I do. I think I've always felt that.

Derek: It's not just this place.

Stacey: No.

Derek: You are beautiful.

Stacey: I didnít think that I could ever feel like this again.

Derek: Oh, you're confused, aren't you? Huh?

Stacey: No.

Derek: Really?

Stacey: Actually, I'm not.

Derek: You're not?

Stacey: Derek, I need you. And I want to do everything I can to make you happy.

Derek: Can I make a suggestion?

Stacey: Anything.

Derek: Can we stop talking for a few minutes?

Stacey: And do what?

Derek: I love you.

[Bell rings]

Stacey: Catherine didnít come back yet.

Derek: I forgot about her for a while.

Stacey: Maybe something happened to her.

Derek: I'm going to go look for her. I wonít be long.

Derek: Catherine? Catherine! Catherine?

Stacey: What is it?

Derek: She's gone.

Stacey: Are you sure?

Derek: There's nobody in the place. Even that butler is gone.

Stacey: Why would she run away?

Derek: I donít know, unless she was lying to me the whole time.

Stacey: Do you think she was?

Derek: No.

Stacey: Well, then what happened to her? She --

Derek: I went out to the driveway and I saw these tire tracks in the yard. It looked like somebody really tore out of here in a hurry, and there were two sets of tire tracks.

Stacey: So do you think somebody came after her?

Derek: Looks like it.

Stacey: And we didnít hear anything when we were --

Derek: We got to get out of here.

Stacey: Well, where are we going to go?

Derek: I donít know, but we got to find Catherine. We got to get out of these clothes.

Stacey: All right. Well, where are our clothes? They've got to be --

Derek: Are you all right?

Stacey: Yeah, I'm -- I'm a little confused, but I'm fine.

Derek: Stacey --

Stacey: What?

Derek: One thing didnít change. I meant what I said, all of it.

Stacey: So did I.

Derek: At this rate, we're never going to get out of here.

Stacey: Ok. I'll change in the other room. Derek, it's going to be all right.

Derek: Hurry.

James: At $500. 550 --

James: $2,000. $2,040. Going once, twice --

Catherine: Lucas?

James: 1,500, I have --

Iris: Vicky, have you seen Lucas in your travels?

Vicky: No, but I'm sure he's around someplace, Iris. Hey, where have you been? You've missed everything.

Evan: Not everything.

Vicky: Well, they're on lot number 15 now, and Samís is next.

Evan: Is it?

James: Going once --

Vicky: Yeah, well, he's supposed to be a good artist.

James: Going twice --

Vicky: Isnít he?

Evan: I -- I donít know.

Felicia: Moving on, ladies and gentlemen, we'll do lot 15. This is a donation from an anonymous source. James, why donít we begin at $1,000?

James: Fine. Do I hear $1,000? $1,000. 1,500 --

Donna: Oh, Iris, what's wrong with you? You look a little odd. But you always look a little odd.

Iris: Donna, have you seen Lucas?

Donna: Did he leave you alone?

Iris: Look, I need to know where he is.

Donna: I haven't the vaguest idea where he is.

Iris: Well, do you know what item they're up to?

Donna: Number 15, and Sam Fowler's painting is next. Good luck.

Iris: Oh, Lucas.

James: Sold to number nine for 4,200.

Felicia: Thank you, Dr. Quinlan. That's our highest bid today, and we do appreciate it. All right, now, our next piece is very special to me because the artist is in my family. His name is Sam Fowler, and he has been featured here in this gallery for some time. This painting, number 16 in your books, is called "Family love." And it was completed shortly after the birth of his daughter. So why donít we start the bidding at $1,000 --

Evan: Ahem.

Felicia: And see if we can beat Dr. Quinlan, all right?

Vicky: "Family love"? Did he learn that from the Coryís?

James: Please check your brochure because this is a late arrival. I'll give you a moment to consider number 16, "Family love" by Sam Fowler.

[Audience gasps]

Donna: That's "Family love"?

Michael: No, that's not.

Jamie: That's not supposed to be there.

Vicky: What the --

Man: $1,000.

Mitch: Rachel, we've got to stop --

Rachel: You're right, we've got to stop this.

James: We'll open the bidding at 1,000.
