  • Thursday, July 12, 2012 HOT FROM FOX…
STEVEN TYLER HAS DECIDED TO DEPART HIS ROLE AS JUDGE ON “AMERICAN IDOL”
Steven Tyler has decided to depart his role as a judge on AMERICAN IDOL. Tyler served as a judge during the 10th and 11th seasons of IDOL.
“After some long...hard...thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit,” said Tyler. “I strayed from my first love, AEROSMITH, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band. The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass – the ultimate in auditory takeover…On Nov. 6, we are unleashing our new album, Music from Another Dimension on the Earth, Moon, Mars, and way beyond the stars…IDOL was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it…Now it’s time to bring Rock Back. ERMAHGERD.”
“It’s been a tremendous honor to have Steven – one of the most prolific artists in the world – on AMERICAN IDOL for the past two seasons,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “He’s been a terrific judge, a true friend and great mentor to everyone involved with the show, and we know he’ll continue to be a huge inspiration to IDOL hopefuls for years to come. We are very sad that Steven has chosen to focus more on his music, but we always knew when we hired a rock ’n’ roll legend, he would go back to the music. We all wish him all the best and would love to have him back on the show anytime.”
“Steven Tyler is a real ‘Idol,’ a rock legend. If you had told me 10 years ago he would be a judge on AMERICAN IDOL, I would have thought it impossible,” stated IDOL creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “The fact that this became a reality and we had the pleasure of him gracing our stage for two seasons makes me very proud. I completely understand his desire to get back to his life as the singer in America's greatest-ever rock band. AMERICAN IDOL will miss him!”
“We’re all very thankful and privileged that Steven joined AMERICAN IDOL two years ago,” said Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO, FremantleMedia. “A true music icon, he not only brought rock ’n’ roll to the show, but also his exceptional taste in spotting and nurturing undiscovered talent. We will sincerely miss his poetic phrases, his remarkable creativity and his unique spirit. We’re sad about his departure from the show, but understand his decision to return to music full-time and hope he’ll be back to grace the AMERICAN IDOL stage in seasons to come.”
AMERICAN IDOL is produced by 19 Entertainment, a division of CKX, Inc. and FremantleMedia North America, Inc.

  • TOMMY HILFIGER JOINS “AMERICAN IDOL” AS IMAGE ADVISOR FOR SHOW’S FINALISTS
Top 12 Perform Live Wednesday, March 14
Next week, globally recognized fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger teams up with AMERICAN IDOL as image advisor for the show’s finalists. Beginning Thursday, March 15 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, Hilfiger will mentor the contestants to define their performance identities and help guide their style transformations as they fight for their chance to become the next AMERICAN IDOL.
“I am honored to be joining Ryan, Steven, Jennifer, Randy and Jimmy for the 11th season of AMERICAN IDOL,” said Hilfiger. “My own experiences at the beginning of my career inspired my commitment to mentor young people who are dedicated to pursuing their dreams. Musicians can bring such a unique vision and personality to the stage. I admire risk takers who share my belief in the power of fashion to transform and influence, and I look forward to working with the artists to guide them in defining their performance style and identity.”

For more than 25 years, Hilfiger has brought classic, cool, American lifestyle to consumers around the world, and his discerning taste has provided the foundation for the growth of a global brand. From the beginning of his career, Hilfiger has been inspired by music. He started his first business, People’s Place, at the age of 18, selling denim jeans and styling his brother’s band for local performances. As Hilfiger’s designs merged with popular culture, the company’s distinct brand message has continued to celebrate the long association between the brand and the music world. Under his namesake label, he has worked with music legends such as the Rolling Stones, Lenny Kravitz, David Bowie, Britney Spears, Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

  • Billboard.com chatted with Steven Tyler as he promotes his new book, "Does The Noise in My Head Bother You?: A Rock 'n' Roll Memoir," and got some inside scoop on the future of Aerosmith, Johnny Depp and of course American Idol.
Please see some excerpts from the Q & A below and the full interview here: LINK
Steven Tyler Q&A: On Making 'Noise in My Head,' Aerosmith & 'Idol,' Johnny Depp & More
Exclusively confirms that Aerosmith will perform on the season finale of "American Idol"
Oh yeah, we're playing the last show of the season. When I came on board, of course they were talking about, "Are you going to sing with the contestants?" I said I'll do a song, sure, but it was always my intention, always, to get Aersomith on the show. I mean, Joe's done it. I'm ready for it. I would love to play with Aerosmith.
On whether he'd like to make a solo album:
Oh, sure -- and I will. With [the single] I just wanted to do something on my own that I didn't have to filter through the band. I just wanted to see what I could do wtih my own songs -- God knows Joe Perry did it enough times. And I'll do more.
On criticism that the Idol judges have been too positive this season/Simon Cowell:
You don't tell someone you don't like them because of the song they're singing, you know? Well, that's what the other guy did, on several occasions. It's good TV. I get that... I came into this thing scared that maybe that wouldn't work because what they did before, Simon and that type of company, worked so well. But then I thought maybe nurturing... could be the new black. Maybe compassion could be the new black instead of black being the new black, y'know?
On settling drama with bandmate Joe Perry:
We're getting together for my father's birthday -- he'll be 95 -- in May and I'm gonna have a band meeting at which time we're gonna settle a lot of the tumult that's been going on in the last year between lawyers and managers... As John Lennon said, time for a new broom to sweep things clean, dahling!
On friendship/possible collaboration with Johnny Depp:
I've been hanging out with him lately; we're planning on writing a song together. He asked me, he said, "I want you to come over" -- he's got a studio here in L.A. -- "and see if I'm playing 'Seasons of Wither' right." I said, "Y'know what, Johnny? No matter how you play it, it's gonna be right. It's a beautiful thing."

Finalist Ashthon Jones was eliminated tonight on AMERICAN IDOL after she received the fewest of America’s votes. On Wednesday’s performance show, the Top 13 performed songs by their music idols, and Jones, 24, from Valdosta, GA, sang “When You Tell Me That You Love Me.” In addition, Adam Lambert sang his latest hit, “Aftermath,” and Diddy-Dirty Money featuring Skylar Grey took the stage to perform “Coming Home.”
It was also announced tonight that the Judges’ Save returns this season. Like last year, up until only five finalists remain, the judges – if they unanimously agree – have the option to save from elimination the finalist receiving the lowest number of votes. This actually says even more about the public’s passion and devotion to music. We are so excited to be recognizing Idol’s unique achievements and adding our voice to the chorus of congratulations for this 10th season milestone.”
