ABC'S PRIVATE PRACTICE SPIKES IN ITS SEASON FINALE (5/15)
Jumping Over its Lead-in by 291% in Viewers and by 120% in Young Adults, ABC's "DWTS Results Show" Outdraws NBC's Premiere of "America's Got Talent"
Opposite Increased Competition, ABC's Season Finale of "Private Practice" Spikes by 22% in Viewers, by 29% in Adults 18-49 and by 30% in Adults 25-54 Week to Week
"DWTS Results Show" (9:00-10:00 p.m.) Leaping over its lead-in ("Cougar Town") at 9:00 p.m. in viewers (+291%) and young adults (+120%) opposite CBS' season finale of "NCIS: LA," ABC's "DWTS Results Show" (12.9 million) outdrew the second hour of NBC's 2-hour premiere of "America's Got Talent" by 2.4 million viewers (10.5 million) and the second hour of Fox's 2-hour "Glee" by 6.9 million viewers (6.0 million). Actress, author and the host of TV's "Extra" Maria Menounos was the next celebrity eliminated from the competition this season.
"Private Practice" (10:00-11:00 p.m.) Spiking in its season finale against increased competition from the second hour of CBS' 2-hour "NCIS: LA" finale, ABC's "Private Practice" beat out NBC's season finale of "Fashion Star" by 2.2 million viewers (7.1 million vs. 4.9 million) and by 13% in Adults 18-49 (1.8/5 vs. 1.6/4) during the 10 o'clock hour. In addition, the ABC drama ranked No. 2 in its slot with Adults 25-54 and key Women (W18-49/W25-54).
* In its season closer, "Private Practice" shot up over the prior week by 22% in Total Viewers, by 29% in Adults 18-49 and by 30% in Adults 25-54.
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 44% currently, from 41% at the same point in 2011. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Release PSAs to Help Children in East Africa Crisis
WESTPORT, Conn. (July 28, 2011) – Save the Children has partnered with Grey’s Anatomy star Kevin McKidd to generate more awareness of the emergency situation in East Africa, which is threatening the lives of more than 10 million people.  The new Public Service Announcements released today highlight the needs of children and their families who are suffering from the worst drought in decades.
“These families have been left with no crops, livestock or water,” said McKidd, a Save the Children supporter. “Save the Children has set up emergency feeding centers to provide food, water and medical care to thousands of people each day, but more help is urgently needed.  Aid workers are reporting that children are walking 50 to 60 miles, often carrying younger siblings on their backs, in order to reach these emergency centers.”
McKidd says he hopes the PSAs will inspire more people to help these children.  Donors can learn more about how to help by visiting Save the Children’s website or can donate $10 by texting "SURVIVE" to 20222 (U.S. Only, standard messaging rates apply).

Launching with the February 3rd episode, the app will allow "Grey's Anatomy" fans to seamlessly interact and engage with specific moments in all of this season's remaining, first-run episodes. In addition to exclusive companion content like polls, trivia, behind-the-scenes insights, production details, character bios, video and photo galleries, users will also be able to "check-in" to virtual environments within episodes, such as riding an elevator with Dr. McDreamy. Users can then share their experiences with friends and other fans of the show through their Facebook account.
In addition to engaging with episode content, users will have the ability to interact directly with Lexus' ads through trivia and also link back directly to the Lexus website (m.lexus.com/TheHardWay).
The new offering is the latest collaboration between Disney/ABC and Nielsen following last fall's My Generation Sync app, a proof-of-concept experiment that was initially tested last fall.
Nielsen's Media-Sync Platform is a complete application development and operating environment that allows TV content producers and broadcasters to deploy sync-to-broadcast mobile apps in a rapid and scalable fashion. The platform relies on audio watermarks already inserted into nearly every TV program in the U.S. as part of Nielsen's industry standard TV audience ratings service. In addition to giving viewers the ability to interact with synchronous content tied to their favorite shows, the Media-Sync platform also delivers interactive advertising modules as companions to the ads on the big screen. This capability gives viewers the opportunity to dive deeper into TV ads for products that interest them, and gives advertisers a powerful new way to extend the effectiveness of their TV ad buy.
ABC's Grey's Anatomy Media-Sync App is available from the App Store on iPad at www.itunes.com/appstore .
A video demo of the new "Grey's Anatomy" Sync App can be viewed at www.abc.go.com/shows/greys-anatomy/ipad.

Quick Take for Thursday, March 11, 2010
(Fast Affiliate Live + Same Day Ratings)
Building on its Lead-in by 6.6 Million Viewers and 255% in Adults 18-49,
ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” Wins its Time Period and is Thursday’s No. 1 Scripted Show
“Private Practice” Wins at 10pm with Adults 18-34 and Key Women, While
Beating NBC’s “Marriage Ref” by 1.9 Million Viewers and 7% in Adults 18-49
“Grey’s Anatomy” (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Building on its lead-in by 6.6 million viewers (11.0 million vs. 4.4 million) and 255% in Adults 18-49 (3.9/11 vs. 1.1/3), ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” won the 9 o’clock hour in the key young adult sales demographic. Despite each network’s decided Adult 18-49 lead-in advantage coming into the hour with original programming, including “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” “Community”/”Parks and Recreation” and “American Idol,” “Grey’s” outperformed CBS’ “CSI” by 18% (3.3/9), NBC’s “The Office”/”30 Rock” by 15% (3.4/9) and Fox’s “Kitchen Nightmares” by 26% (3.1/9), respectively.
• “Grey’s Anatomy” registered as Thursday’s No. 1 TV scripted show among Adults 18-49. “Grey’s” logged its 15th time in 16 original broadcasts this season to qualify as Thursday’s top scripted series with young adults.
“Private Practice” (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
Growing over the prior week’s telecast in viewers and young adults, ABC’s “Private Practice” took second in the 10 o’clock hour, beating NBC’s “Marriage Ref” by 1.9 million viewers (7.9 million vs. 6.0 million) and by 7% in Adults 18-49 (2.9/9 vs. 2.7/8). The ABC drama won its time period, outperforming its drama competition in the hour, CBS’ “The Mentalist,” by 37% in Adults 18-34 (2.6/9 vs. 1.9/6), by 74% in Women 18-34 (4.0/12 vs. 2.3/7) and by 13% in Women 18-49 (4.4/12 vs. 3.9/11). In fact it was the 16th consecutive original telecast this season for “Private Practice” to register as the No. 1 scripted show in its slot in Adults 18-34, Women 18-34 and Women 18-49.
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 36% currently, from 30% at the same point in 2009. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
Source: The Nielsen Company (Fast Affiliate, Live + Same Day Ratings), 3/11/10.

According to Ausiello at EW, the chance of both shows returning next season is "a sure thing" http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/02/14/bubble-show-scorecard/
