TV Show Reviews

"Suits"
review by Suzanne
Thursdays 10/9 central on USA Network starting June 14
I love this show, but I always forget how
much until I watch it again. It's got a dumb, non-descript
name, so I think that's why.
In some ways, it's a legal drama, but the
legal issues are not the main part of the show. They
are almost peripheral to the interplay between the
characters. The romances and other relationships are
important, almost to the point of making it soap-opera-like,
but not in a cliched or annoying way.
The main show is about Mike, this
super-smart lawyer that never went to college, let alone law
school. He is hired to be a lawyer at this corporate law
firm by partner Harvey, a fast-approaching-middle-age
high-powered attorney. Harvey knows that Mike is not really
a lawyer and didn't go to Harvard, but he and Mike lie to
everyone because Mike is such a great lawyer and so smart.
He is Harvey's protoge. Harvey and Mike are kind of friends,
but also kind of like father-son or brothers.
Even though they are a corporate firm, Mike
manages to find the humanity the situations and does the
right thing, even if sometimes that means going against
their clients. Harvey tries to be very hard and ruthless,
and he tries teaching that to Mike, but he really admires
Mike, who helps him find his own humanity. Harvey has
verbal sex all the time with Jessica, the other major
partner in the firm. This season, we see more
interplay between Mike and Jessica as well. Mike also has a
romance going on with co-worker Rachel, but they are
reluctant to cross that line from co-workers to lovers.
The stories and characters are really
well-written and interesting, and the show always surprises
me with the way things turn out. At the end of last season,
Mike's ex-friend told Jessica the truth about Mike's
background. What will she do, and how will Mike be able to
stay at the law firm? Things become very exciting in the
premiere when we meet another partner in the firm.
Check it out tomorrow and you won't be
sorry!
Will Harvey back up Mike’s lie when Jessica gets involved? The answers to your
burning questions will begin to unfold this week in the two dynamic
premieres.
