Political Animals cast

"Political Animals" review by Suzanne
Premieres July 15th Sunday 10/9c on USA Network

I got to see the first episode of this new mini-series. I enjoyed it, and Sigourney Weaver is always great. She plays a Hillary Clinton-like figure. The show is like West Wing, but it's not quite as good. It's basically a pretty good soap opera.

Sigourney Weaver plays Elaine Barrish, who lost her run for the presidency and becomes secretary of state. Her husband is supposed to be like Bill Clinton in that he is a womanizing, two-term popular president from the south. However, he seems to lack Bill's handsomeness or charisma. She divorces him and decides to run again. Irishman Ciaran Hinds plays the former president, and to me, he is the weakest part of the show. For one thing, I can't understand a word he's saying. I guess he's putting on a Southern accent, but it's very bad.  He seems badly cast.

Barrish has two sons, one of them gay. This is the other thing I didn't like - I can't tell the two sons apart. The other one who's not gay is getting married. His fiancee has a big secret. It's a good soap with lots of secrets and great characters.  Adrian Pasdar plays the current president, much like the character he played in "Heroes" but without the super powers. The other great cast members include Ellen Burnstyn, Vanessa Redgrave, and Dylan Baker.

It's worth watching, and I can't wait to see what happens after the first episode!
