Primetime Show Reviews

Travis Marks (Michael Ealy) and Wes Mitchell (Warren Kole)

"Common Law" review by Suzanne
Friday May 11, 2012 10/9C on USA Network

This is an odd little show, but the pilot episode was fun to watch. It's kind of like the ultimate buddy-cop show with a lot of bromance.  These two detectives are going to couples-counseling so that they can work together again. It's an interesting idea, but I wonder how they will keep it going in the long run.

It's an unusual idea even for a cop show because these two are not like your typical cops. They each have their own quirky characteristics. Travis is a bit of a cowboy and also a womanizer. Wes is more of the type to stick to the rules. They rub each other the wrong way even though they're both great cops and have worked together a long time.

The two detectives have huge fights - sometimes literally knock-down, drag-out fights - so they have issues to deal with. They end up working together to solve a case. It's a good show and both of the characters are fun and likable. I will definitely be tuning in to see if it stays so fun and interesting.

UPDATE: It's been a great season. This week's season finale is outstanding. It really ties everything up, just in case the show is not renewed. I sure hope it is, though. I enjoy the characters and the good writing.

It's not only a good season ender but also we get to see some of the past of the main characters, in flashbacks, as they tell their story to their shrink. You should definitely watch it.

Wes (Warren Kole) and Travis (Michael Ealy) try to work their way back into the good graces of Dr. Ryan (Sonya Walger) and their therapy group by finally agreeing to tell the whole story of what landed them there in the first place.
