Primetime Show Reviews
"The Forgotten" Series Premiere
Review by Suzanne
Airing on ABC Tuesdays 10/9c
A group of committed volunteers try to find out the identities
of dead bodies (John and Jane Does) and who killed them. This show has a very
good cast, starting with Christian Slater.
When I first heard about this show, I thought it was sci-fi
because of the title. It's not, yet the dead bodies to talk to us, the viewers,
during the show. That is a little weird, but I don't know if it really affects
the quality of the show much.
The show is another project from Jerry Bruckheimer, who has
brought us great TV shows like CSI, Cold Case, Without a Trace, and Dark Blue.
Actually, Slater's character, Alex, reminds me a bit of the Dylan McDermott
character in "Dark Blue" (just his intensity)..
It's an interesting show. The tone is similar to "Cold Case" but
takes place in Chicago. Alex is an ex-cop, so he works with the police on these
cases. I still find it a little hard to believe that the police would sanction a
volunteer investigative group, even if it is headed by an ex-cop, or that
volunteers would spend so much time or money on something that is essentially a
full-time job. However, it seems that almost every person who is volunteering
has had some kind of tragedy in their life, and that's why they are so committed
to it. The new guy in the first show is working off community service. He
helps the group out by sculpting the dead person's face so they can make a
picture to show around. He's played by Tyler Davies, who is gorgeous.
The mystery of the show was very good and made me want to keep
watching. If you like crime and investigatory shows, you will enjoy this one. It
is up against "The Good Wife", which is a great show (better than this one), and
of course Jay Leno. I guess we'll see which of these shows wins the time slot.
