"The Cleaner" is a good drama. Benjamin Bratt, formerly of "Law & Order",
stars in the title role. He's a former addict who helps other addicts get
cleaner. He does it however it works, even if the methods are extreme,
illegal, or unethical. I don't like that idea in real life, but it makes for
an interesting show, and Bratt is really likeable. He's one of those people
who deprograms people from their addiction, which means he kidnaps them and
forces them to get clean.
I've always thought that adults should be able to do whatever they want to
do as long as it's legal (and then you have to prove it and put them in
jail), so this idea does bother me quite a bit. However, this is a TV show,
even though it's based on real life, so I can put those personal ideals
aside as long as Bratt's character stays a good guy. Many shows nowadays
have these type of flawed protagonists, like The Closer, Saving Grace,
Damages, The Sopranos, The Shield, etc. Some of them I like, some I don't.
It all depends on how far the show goes, how much I need to like the person,
how good the writing is, etc. I'm sure that's true for most viewers.
His marriage broke up last season, so this season, he has to deal with that.
He has a team of people that help him with his job, including Grace Park
(most known for her role on "Battlestar Galactica") and Esteban Powell. The
show has many great guest stars, including Whoopi Goldberg, Gary Cole, Mia
Kirshner, Shirley Jones, Rebecca Gayheart, Lori Petty, and many others.
It's an intriguing show with good acting. Anyone who likes good drama should
enjoy this. It's one of the few original dramas made on A&E, and they do
stand for quality. I just watched the first two episodes that they sent me,
and both were excellent.
Check it out! The second season starts June 23rd on A&E Network. You can
find a lot of information, film clips, and photos on our primetime forum.
