A UK professor of natural languages is using our soap transcripts for her research!

The Daytime Entertainment Creative Arts Emmy Awards to honor those behind the scenes was held at the Westin Bonaventure on Sunday, June 17, 2012. GH was the most winning soap, taking home statues for Casting, Costume Design, Song, and Technical Direction; Days won for Makeup and Stunt Coordination; B&B won Art Direction/Set Direction and tied Y&R for Hairstyling; AMC was the winner in Editing and tied Y&R for Sound Mixing; OLTL won Lighting; and Y&R took home Score.

The 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Award winners were announced on June 23, 2012. They are shown in bold below.

The 33rd Annual Young Artist Awards were given out on Sunday, May 6, 2012. Robbie Tucker (Fen, Y&R) tied Tate Berney (ex-AJ, AMC) for Best Performance in a Daytime TV Series in the 12 and Under category, while Andrew Trischitta (ex-Jack, OLTL) and Austin Williams (ex-Shane, OLTL) tied in the category's older group. Haley Pullos (Molly, GH) took home two awards: Best Guest Starring Young Actress 11-13 category for her appearance on "House" and Best Performance in a Daytime TV Series. Danielle Parker (ex-Emma, AMC) won for the same title in the 10 and Under category. Emily Alyn Lind (ex-Emma, AMC) won the Best Performance in a TV Series by a Recurring Young Actress 10 and Under for her role on "Revenge," while Erin Sanders (ex-Eden, Y&R) was named in the Recurring Actress 17-21 category for her part on Nickelodeon's "Big Time Rush."

After 22 years, "Soap Opera Weekly" ceased publication with its April 10, 2012 issue.

SOAPnet isn't fading to black soon. "It will remain available for an undetermined period of time as additional carriage deals for Disney Junior are finalized with distributors," says a spokesperson for the network.

From Soap Opera Weekly 3/13/12 The Spanish-language soap "El Talisman" on Univision is now subtitled in English, so English-speaking viewers can watch if they are missing their soaps.

The awards were presented at simultaneous ceremonies on Sunday, February 9, 2012, in Los Angeles and New York:  GH's writing team won the WGA Award.

The nominees for the 43rd NAACP Image Awards, celebrating the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of film, television, music and literature and honors individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors, in the daytime categories were: Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series: Bryton James (Devon, Y&R), Emerson Brooks (Erica's captor, Ben, AMC), & James Reynolds (Abe, Days), and B&B's Aaron D. Spears (Justin), and Texas Battle (Marcus). Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series: Y&R's Christel Khalil (Lily), Julia Pace Mitchell (Sofia), Tatyana Ali (Roxanne), Tonya Lee Williams (Olivia), & B&B's Yvette Freeman (Dr. Lewis). The winners, announced during a live telecast on NBC on Friday, February 17, are Emerson Brooks (Erica's captor, Ben, AMC) and Tatyana Ali (Roxanne, Y&R).

The Directors Guild of America nominated seven directors in the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Daytime Serials for 2011:  Larry Carpenter for OLTL; Mike Denney for Y&R; William Ludel for GH; Scott McKinsey for GH; Cynthia J. Popp for B&B, Casey Childs for AMC; and Angela Tessinari for AMC. The winner announced at the 64th Annual DGA Awards Dinner on January 28, 2012, in Los Angeles, CA was GH's William Ludel for Luke's intervention episode.

"Dark Shadows, the ABC vampire-themed daytime show that ran from 1966-1971, starring Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins, was released on April 10. You can order it via Amazon.com. The coffin-shaped complete box set includes 131 DVDs with all 1225 episodes.

To make the Daytime Emmy nomination process fairer in 2012, NATAS (The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences) has instituted some changes. There will no longer be a limit of 2 actors from each show who can submit their names in the pre-nomination process in each category. Therefore, everyone will have a chance to be considered for an award, not just the most well-known actors. Also, judging pre-nominee hopefuls will take place online. The top 10 pre-nominees from each category will be announced on March 2, 2012.
