2008 General Hospital Opinion Articles and Essays!

G.H. Commentary by Rachel

As an avid GH viewer, I cannot go forward into the New Year without addressing this matter.  It seems rather asinine that TPTB (The Powers That Be) have made it necessary for me to do such.

Over the past few years, it has become clear that not that many people leave Port Charles with the possibility of returning.  These characters are instead killed off.  The latest victim being Georgie Jones.  Which brings me to this question: was there a need for her death?

Georgie has been a fan favorite since she was rapidly aged to a teenager and paired with Dillon Quartermaine.  She and Dillon had a string of front-burner storylines that pulled in a younger audience.  Even I found myself cheering the young duo on.

We wanted her to realize that Dillon was smitten by her natural beauty and intelligence.  We rooted for Georgie and Dillon to find common ground where their love could grow. We cried when they had a death-bed wedding ceremony in the hospital’s chapel.  We encouraged her to drop Dillon’s sorry butt and pursue a relationship with Diego.  We even saw the irony in Georgie pining after Spinelli, without him getting the hint of her unrequited love.  And now that has come to an end (for no reason at all).

The death of Georgie ends the essence of “innocence” for her generation.  Each GH generation has at least one.  In the early 90s there was Robin.  In the late 90s there were Elizabeth and Emily.  For this generation, there was Georgie.

With that gone, who will be her generation’s angelic voice of reason?  Who will call Maxie out on her misdeeds and have her actually listen?  Who will give Spinelli the continued encouragement to get over Lulu and the praise for conquering cyber obstacles?  Since we don’t know who it is, I can tell you who it won’t be…Georgie.

The opinions in these articles are those of the writer and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of The TV MegaSite or its other volunteers.
