2006 General Hospital Opinion Articles and Essays!

G.H. Commentary by Rachel

Port Charles’ Town Crier
The Dearly Departed

It seems only fair to discuss the recently departed Diego Alcazar.  The character with so much potential, killed before the writers were able to utilize it.  His demise has caused me to ponder what could have been.

After his brief stint in prison, Diego returned to town with one intention…to pursue Georgie.  She was his savior before and during his prison stay.  She stood up for him, even after he used her as a hostage, and took on her family, her friends and Dillon.  This could have been a magnificent love story, one that could have outnumbered the Georgie and Dillon fan following, if written right.  Instead, the viewers received an underdeveloped love triangle with Diego being used as a plot device.

Another missed opportunity was his allegiance with Lulu.  A classic storyline of two individuals trying to break up a couple only to fall for each other would have worked for these two.  Some of the best love stories have used this formula.  Instead, the possibility ended when their allegiance abruptly ended.  In fact, if some one watched the show and wasn’t familiar with it, she would not have known that these two even knew each other let alone be in cahoots.

If his love life was of no interest, then how about his long lost father being Lorenzo Alcazar?  There has never been a true storyline establishing their father-son relationship.

Sure there were glimpses of it, but if you weren’t looking for it, you would not have found it.  One day Diego started calling Lorenzo “Pop” and wanted in the family business, which Lorenzo refused.  And that pretty much summed it up.

Am I the only one who saw what a waste Diego was?  How he could have been used for more than what he was?  Nevertheless, it’s time to say goodbye, to what could have been. Let us raise our glasses and toast to Diego Alcazar, who’s better off dead then remaining on a show that never gave him a true chance.
