Port Charles’ Town Crier
The Marrying Man
The year was 1996 when Jasper “Jax” Jacks arrived on our screens as an
Australian Corporate Raider Playboy. He was Jacks…Jasper Jacks, the perfect
replacement for James Bond (minus the spy element). Ruthless in the
boardroom and smooth in the bedroom, that was Jax. Ten years later, Jax has
become unrecognizable. He’s the male version of Erica Kane, spending more
time in the bedroom then the boardroom.
It seems that Jax hasn’t lost his mojo, but definitely has lost his
business sense. If not, how would the viewers know? Have we seen Jax wine
and dine some one other than his latest female conquest? How about
corporate take-overs, has there been any? No, but I can tell you what there
has been…weddings.
Since Jax has been in Port Charles, he has been the groom in six weddings
(not to mention the wedding off screen with Miranda). Out of those
weddings, he’s actually been legally married four times (his marriage to
Brenda was invalid). He’s also been divorced four times, with at least
three of those divorces taking place six months (or sooner) within the
marriage. Of course, this is a soap and marriages are not supposed to last
until the end of time, but come on. Last year this time Jax’s marriage to
Courtney was already over after four months. Now, he’s going to marry
Carly.
If this union cultivates into a marriage, can you say divorce? Besides
her marriages to Sonny, Carly’s marriage to Lorenzo lasted a month (give or
take) and her marriage to A.J. was a complete nightmare. She’s extremely
loyal to Jason and (most of the time) to Sonny as well, which means
trouble. Yet, that’s beside the point. The point is I want 1996 Jax back
and not the shell of a man that is on our screens.
Sure characters have to evolve, but this chase the woman, conquer the
woman and marry her, then loss her cycle must end. If it doesn’t, I’m
afraid that Jax will become nothing more than a joke. As it is, I lost all
respect for the character after he humiliated Brenda at the altar. I
completely stopped following his storylines when he chased after Courtney.
Now, I’m disgusted with his pursuit of Carly, which makes me believe that
all hope is gone for a once promising character named Jax.
