Maxie and Lucky Travesty

There are just some things that do not seem right. Things that even in soap opera land, they shouldn’t be happening. One of those things is Lucky and Maxie sleeping together. Although that act with everything that led up to it is not a surprise, it was still hard to watch these two in the afterglow of their sex. There was something morbid about it starting with the fact that Lucky is married to Elizabeth. Secondly, Maxie is taking complete advantage of the situation and it would be hard to argue against it.

Maxie knows very well that her only true connection to Lucky is the drugs she somehow finds to provide to him. Case in point, when she overheard Lucky talking to Elizabeth in what seemed like an instant in which he was ready to be honest with Elizabeth, she did the only thing she could do to ensure that her connection with him remains intact by scoring more drugs for him. Every time, Lucky attempts to stay away from the addictive painkillers, Maxie justifies his need by feeding him “you only need it for work” line. It is apparent that she will do whatever it takes to maintain a link to him even if it is detrimental to Lucky’s life.

Of course, Lucky is not without fault. Instead of letting his issues over take his logic, he allowed himself to be influenced by the drugs as well as Maxie. Worst yet, Lucky did not confide in his wife which by all accounts is the path of least heartache because through history, Elizabeth as forgiven, supported, and loved him through out every problem they have had. Granted, Elizabeth had done some things to create strain in the relationship but those things do not fall out of the normal parameters of a marriage in which nothing is ever perfect. Lucky’s actions on the other hand put the marriage itself in jeopardy. It is really not enough to say that a marriage goes through hard times and talk about how much one loves the spouse. Lucky has to demonstrate that in actions by confiding to his wife instead of running to some teenager who only has enough sense to agree with and contribute to his destructive behavior.

As it stands, Maxie has a tendency to get jealous and angry causing her to react in a rash manner. Their secret tryst will not remain a secret for long. When Elizabeth finds out, I wonder if she will remember how Lucky slept with her sister as well. Drugs or not, there are some things that cannot be forgiven twice.
