2006 General Hospital Opinion Articles and Essays!

G.H. Commentary by Wanda
Patrick Drake has issues

The dark Dr. Hottie, Patrick Drake, is so far gone that he doesn’t even realize he is just fighting against it in vein. After the funeral Patrick and Robin were discussing the loss of Justice. Robin told Patrick that she was happy he could be there for her and he seemed happy to be a form of support in her life until things turned ugly which at some point they usually do with him and Robin. Noah Drake saw Patrick and Robins “relationship” as a good way to bridge the gap between him and his son. He approached Patrick to tell him how happy he was that Robin was in Patrick’s like. He went on to say how good she was for him and, heaven for bid, how happy Patrick seemed lately. Noah didn’t get the response he was hoping for. Patrick was none to pleased with his father’s comments and sent him scurrying off.

It is a shame that Patrick maintains the animosity between him and his father. One would think that after he gave up his liver to save Noah’s life that Patrick would be more receptive about having a relationship with his farther especially since Noah is making an effort to change his life. Robin was attempting to make just that point, but Patrick has such a narcissistic affliction that he could not see past his own issues. The first one being that he is falling for Robin and it has caught him completely off guard. He doth protest way too much. How many times does he have to mention no-commitment sex before it turns into an insult? Since she agreed to sleep with him, Robin hasn’t once asked Patrick for a commitment and yet he is acting like she has proposed marriage time and again.

Robin thought he was being insensitive to his father and Patrick maintained that she was upset because he denied their relationship. In reality, Patrick is the one upset because he just may want to be in a relationship with Robin. He seemed even more pissed that his father of all people should notice. Finally, hurt by Robin’s valid disappointment in him, he goes off to Jakes where Carly is available. Now, who is using whom?

In the end, Patrick is using not only Carly but also his womanizing reputation to shield himself from not just Robin, but from the love that’s growing in his heart. One can only hope that when he comes to his senses, getting love back won’t be as easy as getting Robin to sleep with him.
