Marriott Marquis Hotel, Times Square, New York, NY
By Nikky
I left my home town of Reading, PA at 7 a.m. on a bus to NYC. We were
scheduled to be there at 10 a.m., but we made it there at 9:40 a.m. I walked
to the hotel, which actually did not take me too long. I loved the sites of
NYC. Even though I’ve been there a few times before, the lights, people and
sites still amaze me. I love the city.
When I arrived at the hotel, I checked in. I took a look at the items
available for the raffle. There were a lot of items in the dollar raffles,
everything from clothes worn on the show, Kendall’s book, signed pictures, a
“Free Erica” poster, two different bags – one had “Tad” one had “Erica” &
“Jack”, a “Ryan” pillow, a clock with pictures of different cast members,
sets of pictures, “Loving” tees, a Night Shift DVD. There were over 50
items. You could buy single tickets or 21 for $20.00. I bought the 21
tickets. There were also $5.00 raffles in which there were only a few items.
An AMC fan club jacket, a $100.00 gas card, a phone call from “Erica”, a
phone call from “Ryan”, and a few other items I cannot recall. For those of
you who do not know, I am a HUGE Cameron Mathison fan. I absolutely love
him. There were A LOT of tickets in the bin for his phone call. More than
Susan Lucci’s. I couldn’t help myself. I bought one ticket for that.
There were also vendors there. Some people were selling pictures. I did buy
three. I bought one of Jacob Young, one with Cameron Mathison & Jeff
Branson, and one with Walt Willey, Brent Weber, & Jeff Branson. There were
‘I love Alicia’ and ‘I love Rebecca’ pins. There were also T-shirts from a
company called Shout Out! which Colin Egglesfield founded. Their website is
www.shoutoutclothing.com They have a circle on the front as well as a spot
on the back in which you can put enclosed Velcro letters to spell out
anything you like. (Colin was wearing one of these shirts.) They are
changing the shirts so the Velcro is smooth.
I had finished up everything a bit early and some people were already
waiting at the doors to the ballroom, even though it didn’t open till 11:00
a.m. I sat and waited.
Once the doors opened, I made my way to table 21. It was all the way on the
other side of the room. There were 10 people per table, which was a little
cramped. There were 29 tables plus a few reserved. At 11:30 a.m., they fed
us lunch which consisted of chicken, rice, and some sort of wrap. During
this, the raffle winners were announced. They requested the winners stand
up. In my opinion this was very difficult. It was hard to eat and try to
listen for numbers, and I can only imagine probably not fun to stand up
midbite. I sadly did not win anything. They also served us a very small
dessert. The food was very good, however, and much enjoyed by at least
myself!!!
Close to 12:30 p.m., more chairs were added to the stage. This meant – more
stars!!
A little after 12:30 p.m., the woman who made it all possible, Carol, made
her way to the stage. Walt Wiley (Jackson) was supposed to MC, but he called
her and his plane was delayed. He wouldn’t make it till 3:30 p.m. (I did not
see him at all so I can only assume he never made it to the hotel) We had
another non-actor MC who was awesome. He had big shoes to fill, and I must
say, did a good job in the short notice he was probably given.
He
introduced the stars based on some info about what was going on with their
characters in Pine Valley.
[Click on the thumbnail to see the full-sized picture!]
The stars there were Amanda Baker (Babe), Rebecca Budig (Greenlee), Melissa
Claire Egan (Annie), Colin Egglesfield (Josh), Beth Ehlers (Taylor), Ricky
Paull Goldin (Jake), Daniel Kennedy (Pete), Michael E. Knight (Tad), Cameron
Mathison (Ryan), Billy Miller (Richie), Alicia Minshew (Kendall), Brianne
Moncrief (Colby), Richard Shoberg (Tom), Chrishell Stause (Amanda), Sterling
Sulieman (Dre), Denise Vasi (Randi), & Jacob Young (J.R.).
The Q & A was next. At first Cameron came down and was asking questions
and then Daniel joined him. Cameron was on my side, Daniel on the other
side.
Some Q & A are as follows. Please note these are NOT exact quotes, just
everything I remember.
Someone asked how they could meet Tad. He allowed her to come up on stage.
Throughout the day this was also asked and done of Richard and Jacob.
Jacob: Which coast do you like best? I was born on the West coast, but I
love New York. (Hmm…didn’t quite answer, did he??)
Brianne: What’s it like to be a Chandler and also go through everything that
she is going through (i.e.: underage drinking)? It is a big part of society
so I’m glad for it and being a Chandler is interesting, every day is
different.
Denise: Is that your picture up in NYC? (There were many advertisements
throughout the city with her picture on it) Yes, I did a photo shoot for
Glamour and they decided to use the pictures for more advertising.
Melissa: Will your father be back? I have no inside info, but I highly doubt
it. Especially now with my brother being dead.
How did you learn everything in regards to the science with your dad? I
studied with a scientist.
Alicia: Did you submit Emmy tapes? Yes (she explained that she submitted two
and how the process works for when actors submit tapes). The fan responded –
what the hell is wrong with those people? To everyone’s cheer.
How come there was no birthday party for Ian? I don’t know, I’m never with
him, and it pisses me off. The fan responded it does make her angry as well,
and Alicia responded that she will tell the writers it pisses us fans off.
Rebecca: Do you keep in touch with Josh (Duhamel) and how is Bob? Bob is
good. When I was in LA, I played phone tag with Josh, but he is off doing
his own thing, and he just stopped returning my calls.
Michael: Who was your favorite love interest? The whole crowd yelled Dixie,
which he agreed upon. (Like he had a choice??)
Why did you decide to go grey? People can add! As long as I have hair, I
don’t care.
Beth: With the chemistry between herself as playing “Harley” and Ricky Paull
as playing “Gus” on “Guiding Light” , does she thinks that will carry over?
She had discussed how their chemistry and relationship was on “GL” and said
she hoped.
Amanda: How different is working on AMC vs. GH’s Night Shift. It is very
different because GH ran Monday thru Thursday and Night Shift ran 14 hours
on a Friday. She loves working on AMC.
Colin: About recurring status, everyone was sad.
Somewhere along the way it was suggested that “Amanda” & “Josh” be love
interests, they went running toward the center of the stage and faked making
out, which I sadly could not get on camera.
A little girl had gone up to Cameron during the Q & A
when he picked her
up & then carried her around a bit. She then had a question. She had
forgotten whom the question was for so Cameron whispered in her ear it was
for him. She then asked when he was going to tell Greenlee he loved her. It
was so sweet. She is 5.
About 1:30 the Q & A was wrapped up. We were told that certain stars would
remain in the room we were in and others were a different room. We were not,
however, told who would be where.
Since I was at the far end of the room, I
was one of the last people out. I saw Daniel’s line was so short, so I stopped
there first.
He was very nice. Seemed very happy to be on the show. Always making sure for
those with digital cameras that the picture took. I hope he can remain on
the show and continue to gain fan favoritism, because I think he will be a
huge asset to the show.
I made my way over to the other room looking for Michael’s line, and I saw
Colin’s
line
was not too long, so I stood in line there. In front of me was a
young man named Henry, who is mentally challenged, and his mother who was so
nice. Henry seemed more happy to be there, to meet the stars, with life in
general, than most people I know. He was so excited to meet all
the stars! Well, Colin was just as happy to meet Henry. Colin actually asked
the girl who was with him (who, I’m sorry girls, I think is his girlfriend)
to take a picture with himself and Henry with HIS camera and also one of
just Henry. This made Henry’s day even better. Colin was very nice when it
was my turn. He is very cute, I think more so in person.
I was still looking around, trying to find where everyone was. Amanda’s line
was very short, so she was my next stop. While waiting, I saw my friend from
Janny’s Place message board – Jackie. She was waiting for Rebecca. Amanda
was no nice and gracious as well. I really hope everyone can take her in as
“Babe.”
Brianne’s line was also short, so she was my next stop. Again, very nice.
I wanted to go in Rebecca’s line, but she had to leave early, so it was
cut off.
Michael’s line was SO long, I just couldn’t see myself standing in it. I
decided, however, to wait in Alicia’s. While there, Richard left out of one the door
right next to me. Again,
camera not ready. I must say, however, that Alicia
she was the MOST gracious star out of the day. Everyone was so kind, but
she takes the cake. She thanked me for waiting in line. (Which was about a
half hour.)
She asked me if it was my first time and told me to have a good
time and enjoy. She genuinely talked to people. Which I cannot imagine is
easy after ALL those fans!! She also remembered fans she met before and
seemed very interested in what was happening in their lives and sharing
hers. She seemed to treat everyone like a friend. Michael was right next to
her, so I was able to at least see him and take a few photos while I waited
in line, which made my day!!
I made my way back to the other room to see Jacob
but he had left.
Chishell’s line was short, so I stopped there. Well, this woman is soo
pretty. I actually told her this and kind of felt like a goon afterwards,
but she is genuinely pretty. Not show biz, not too much make up. She has
good skin!! She was very nice as well.
Well, while in line I find out where my Cameron has been all this time. In
the corner of the room we started in. His line isn’t too long. Hmm…I think
to myself. I met him before. But, can I forgive myself if I don’t again. I
go. His wait is not too long either. I actually talked to him this time
instead of the first time going uhhhh, uhhh. LOL!! I told him abut the time
I met him & Josh (Duhamel) in Reading.
It was 3:30
and time for the lines to be capped. I was afraid I wouldn’t
make it to Michael’s line. I also knew I had to make it out of there by 4 to
catch my bus. So even if I did make it to his line, my fear was I would not
make it to the bus station in time. Melissa’s line was short, not capped, so
I decided to wait and meet her. Again, very nice.
At this point, 3:45, the lines were finally capped. I took one last look
around and left the hotel. I have a new respect for those actors and
actresses, how much they love their fans. I am so thankful they do things
like this. I made my way back to the bus station, stopping for dinner to
take with me, again admiring this wonderful city. I said good-bye to NYC
about 5:00 p.m., knowing I will be back, but not soon enough. (I made it home at
8:00 p.m. after a very long day, but very well worth it.) I hope I get the chance to go
again next year!
